To see Yo-Yo Ma and Glenn Dicterow sharing their fantastic solos together; that made my heart melt.

I agree that YoYo may not seem as emotional during his performances, but here's why he is a master. Many cellists nowadays only focus on making the music sound exciting or full of energy to the audience. This often works, but it's not actually musically accurate. There is no musicality there. However, when you listen to YoYo, every moment is so carefully thought out; every part makes sense musically. He is able to express every emotion through his musicality. He is not just trying to make everything exciting to the audience, or try to impress them to captivate them.

Yes , thank you , you understood very well what I was trying to say , despite my terrible english . And , in the interviews , Mr. Ma tells us what about he would be very happy to reach , but that is what he says , not what he plays .

Wow...I don't think he's even on Earth anymore in this performance.

Thank you for trying to analyse my position (I am not ironic) but I 'll try to explain it more clearly : I think that cellists like Du Pré , Rostropovich , Casals , Piatigorsky , Feuermann , Hermann Busch , Fournier , were all musicians with the purpose : what is INSIDE of the music ? Mr.Ma is to the contrary very modern : for him music is a nice elegant world of sounds which could be utilised just as a luxuous new car on the main road along the ocean . I find this particularly obscene .

Very in the style of today : very clean , very contemplative , very "as it has to be " , very bouring .

Yes , empty . I don't want to agress you , but you are perhaps not ABLE to listen to somebody like Du Pré . Pehaps are you weak , or ill , or superficial ...

The man feels NOTHING AT ALL ...." nice" sound , so told "very expressive" , but in fact absolutely empty .... ( I must say , just like the society of today ) . Please , just have a look , or a hearing , for Jacqueline du Pré , in the same concerto , same part of the same movement .....

what you may be referring too is that du pre often really GOES FOR IT. She really just gets into the music and makes it exciting. This works for some pieces and impresses the audience, but it is not always musically the best choice to do.
