I completely disagree with you and agree with Mark. When I left the theater after seeing the second, I left unhappy. I felt even back then at about the age of 10 that they had some great concepts but could not pull it out and destroying everything that was accomplished in the original. I also did not enjoy the scene that the writers later did not do anything about later, and that was the whole thing with his ex-wife and staring out a window watching her. Murphy, not Robocop was satisfied and ready to move on with his life. The second does not have that feel, at all. It feels like all the character building from the first movie was completely destroyed and they acted like it never happened. It feels like they did not enjoy the story of the fist and left some of those elements in the second and the problem is that it did not make any sense to anyone. It is again a let down and we are left with a completely watered down movie from the original. Many elements that were left open from the original were never completed in the series and were never mentioned again. And the man that owned OCP turned into something he was not and that was an asshole. Remember, he was the redeeming factor of the film that put common sense back into that situation by firing Dick and allowing Murphy (Not Robocop) to kill Dick. Without that action/ decision that ending would not have happened and there would have been a different continuation. Everything rested on that termination of employment. Showing that the owner of OCP is not a bad guy. So, the other movies are a sham.
Andoc If the remake was R and didn't suck and as long as she is the same character as Anne Lewis is in the first movie I have no problem for a black tough as nails chick to play her. My pick would be Taraji P. Henson to play her. She can be tough and sweet which is nescessary for the Anne Lewis character.
6:02 to Rich Evans this: they should've dropped their guns and felt some temporary relief before the robot goes "assessing remaining threat: neutralize" or simply repeats itself like it was malfunctioning, instantly re-heightening the tension before the kid finishes hacking into it both a more sensible scene and does a better job manipulating the tension
That was the entire gag in the first film. An overly expensive machine that never works right. Full of oversights, like the inability to walk down stairs.
Just a fun fact... Murphy's/RoboCop's home address does somewhat exist. Primrose Lane is a street in a northern suburb of Detroit called Southfield. Actually it's not a bad neighborhood. However, the number 548 does not exist, but the street does. Personally, I'd like to have one of those Taurus LX the DPD drives in the RoboCop movies, and make it look like one. It'd be awesome, and I guess it'd attract curiousity - especially if I'd manage to get a replica of a DPD uniform and armor from the movies. I'd drive the thing dressed up like that on car meets. No doubt!
Robocop was all about the duality of Robocop/Alex Murphy. How he maintained his sanity being removed from life essentially but still in the world with all these memories. As the sequels moved forward they strayed away from this duality which was the key central point of the story. We should have seen him dealing with emotions any human would face. Doubt, imposter syndrome, depression, inadequacy, resentment....instead we got....well what we got. Had he dealt with all these things the community coming together and helping him would have made more sense.
I actually like the robocop reboot to be honest. It wasn't as bad as people said it was. It wasn't like the original sure, but a modernized version of it was pretty cool to be honest.
Peter Weller did not turn down Robocop 3, he was just unavailable at the time, he even had a personal meeting with the Director and even tried to maybe delay the filming for a year or 2. But the Director could not wait that long for Peter Weller to return for the Role. So he got somebody else to take over the Role.
The original (the Director's Cut version) is awesome, the second one, well... it was okay, but it was not as good as the first. The third film... it sucked.
The kid scared me when i watched it. I think it was the thought of a kid being in control with guns. kinda reminded me of the local bully gone ape shit. also a mix of thoughts about Lord of the flies
The original Robocop was the first Judge Dredd movie. Seriously, when the original design for Robocops look was leaked Pat Mills, 2000ad editor at the time, considered suing because the helmet was pretty much a direct copy of Dredds. The character and attitude of Murphy/Robocop is heavily influenced by Dredd too. Probably why I loved it so much as a kid, I'm a life long Dreddhead. Just a little bit of trivia.
Venom NBK You know that awesome scene when Murphy gets blown to bits? Yeah, lets turn it into Murphy getting a dud from a exploding car, THAT SOUNDS SO F***ING AWESOME. It wasn't...
It still has Stephen Root, one of the best of modern character actors, as well as the late, great Daniel von Bargen - and they also both appeared in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?", though they shared no scenes in that one.
I thought the kid was bad ass. I think it's plausible, the kid was a genius and a cold blooded bastard. It's not unheard of to have young protégées excelling very well in their craft. Like Mozart, wrote his first sonnet at the age of four. And so on so on. It's possible there could a kid that could do that. Also I don't think the kid actor gets enough credit playing this young villain. I thought he was great, the kid has talent! I thought this kid had some potential to be a really good actor. And considering how most child actors can be obviously terrible, I thought this kid in robo cop2, successfully conveyed a cold, creepy, erie, manipulating monster. I kinda compare him to almost Griffin from berserker, if he wasn't killed off too soon. But hey that's just me. I respectfully disagree with your opinion.
flipingboredcritic its a kid... if i was part of the cartel, it would b really easy to dispose of him... how the hell do u compare a druglord to a music artist??? lol
yea i really dont blame kid actors even if they r bad cause ovisly if the film is bad its problynot their fault also they do need kids or even babies for scenes i think this kid did good andcould had went on to become adecent actor i know he was working for cain it was different instead of making the kid the good guy
Something that I really hate about sequels is how, in many cases, they tend to retcon things that were established in the first movie. This is most prevalent with bad sequels, but even the good ones tend to do this sometimes. (Spoilers for Terminator, Highlander and Transformers ahead). For example, the first Terminator told us that you can't really change the past, but then T2's like "No, you can change the past if you want to." Or Transformers, it ends with Bumblebee getting his voice back, but then at the beginning of the next movie it's broken again for no explainable reason (not to mention the fact that Megatron was killed at the end and then the Decepticons easily revive him later). Or Highlander, which ends with Conner winning the Prize, which means that he is the last of the immortals, but then suddenly there are more in the next movie. Then we have RoboCop 2. I could probably go on and on, but you get my point.
I loved Robocop 3. Sure, it has some weak spots and continuity issues, but the plot serves as a pretty good window into the struggle between establishment and resistance. Robocop 3 is pretty much the culmination of what has happened from the first film that leads citizens to ultimately become mobilized and fight back.
Hey Mark, great review, as always, but I just noticed that you're cartoon picture actually looks a bit like, no disrespect, Mrs. Tweedy's husband from Chicken Run!
RoboCop 2 isn't terrible, it's not great, but it can be a beer and junk food movie. RoboCop 3is unwatchable. The original is a classic. I'm still yet to see the remake, I doubt I'll ever bother with it.
I dont get why some people still say that Robocop lost what he gained at the end of the 1st movie. He didnt. Everybody at the police station calls him Murphy now which means he still acknowledges that fact, he remembers his family and tries somehow to get it back, makes some jokes here and there, etc. He cant act any more human like that because well, he is a cyborg now so thats as human as he is gonna ever get.
Robocop 2 is one of best movies from my childhood, how dare you! SEriously though, Mayor of Detroit? That was one of the best characters in the movie, the kid gangster with a girl twice his age, Kane with his projection. RObocop 2 is a masterpiece.
Yeah that's true. But RoboCop 3 was bad because...well...I don't have to explain it, Mark does it pretty well in the review xD. But the remake was just SO BORING!! Honestly, it's only SLIGHTLY better than RoboCop 3, but not by much lol.
i liked the trilogy, first the best, i liked the weapon and jetpack on 3, but many years...i never noticed that arm hiding on back XDDDDDDDDDDDDD, but its just old movies of course. they didnt had so much resources as nowdays. i bet they had alot work than these movies of modern days and much low budget i think.
@michael cooper what part of that is against the constitution? Your bias is way too obvious for you to be taken seriously. At the very least explain what you mean because this makes no sense. By the way ALL democrats support red flag laws, and banning of ALL firearms, so he's still the far less extreme of choices.
@michael cooper So you're mad at that, but not at democrats for also supporting red flag laws, have banned much more than just a bump stock, intend to ban all firearms, and banned the word illegal immigrant in all NY? That's 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th By the way he only banned criticism on college campuses were you already aren't allowed free speech because it's not a public area, same as a workplace.
The arc in RC2 is a good progression, I think it speaks to the fact that he is ultimately a machine, his being Murphy can no longer be his whole identity. The problem is that this arc is resolved at the start of the second act, and it feels kind of just dicking around for the rest. Kershner is a good director, but he's not on Verhoeven's level
Hmmm.... Methadone Acting Clinic. I had an uncle who used to go there. We had to take him to his Clinic everyday at, like, 6:00 in the morning. He always came home tired, and would fall asleep on the sofa. (Must've been from all that ACTING)
I lacked all the intelligence of the first and missed the mark on everything. The first was the best, with the news clips, and often the bad guys and the corporate guys would say the exact same sentences. Like the OCP's Dick Jones: "I say good business is where you find it", later Clarence Boddicker says: "Good business is where you find it" when dealing with the coke dealer. It's full of these pearls.
It was really good. But people wont be talking about the reboot in 25 years, however, people will still be talking about the original 25 years from now. Thats the difference between the remake and the original.
No, the television series was better than 2 and 3, and three was a step up from 2. (At least three has Nico, and the medical examiner from NCIS New Orleans.)
You know there is an alternate theory that Murphy never came back to life instead the computer program was designed to do exactly what it did use Murphy's brain and experience and memories as a police officer to become a cop however that also included the life he had showing that nature may actually affect nurture. So it's an interesting theory that may be it really was a robot just experiencing emotion of other people's lives. If you are like me who's had brain injuries and you don't remember your past life you kind of can relate

🤣 Dude...
Actually on the VHS release of the film there was an anti drug PSA
The kid drugstore vs the hilarious mayor was perfect!
I think this was the first Robocop movie I'd ever watched during my childhood. As a kid, those Japanese ninja-bots were pretty cool. Ahh, memories :).
How BAD is Robocop 3???
NOT AS BAD AS THE REMAKE.
Andoc Maybe I should be a casting director?
Andoc Thank you.
or the 4. movie
the remake s u c k e d.
6:02 to Rich Evans this: they should've dropped their guns and felt some temporary relief before the robot goes "assessing remaining threat: neutralize" or simply repeats itself like it was malfunctioning, instantly re-heightening the tension before the kid finishes hacking into it
both a more sensible scene and does a better job manipulating the tension
saw this movie at the cinema with my dad when i was 12 i liked it then as my IQ was slightly lower then 13 back then lol
Love The channel dude. I noticed that you have a green hue. I think you might need to rethink your lighting for the green screen.
LOL @ ED-209 being *"a robot that sophisticated"*!! Ahahaha, it was perhaps one of the most malfunctioning things OCP ever produced!
No doubt!
Robocop 3 would've been at least nice if that blend android Otomo had a huge exotic samurai armor. Or just anything but ninja outfit...
Can you review the remake?
6pakUnited better yet, can he remake the review?
I wish they would have at least kept his old suit. All they had to do was repaint it. But noooooo they had to redo the whole fucking suit.
Why??
the year is 2022 fact is stranger than fiction and the mayor of Chicago is even more unbelievable.
in my opinion robocop 1 and 2 are both awesome.
Kids don't do drugs nor dismember your enemies! Robocop smiles.
The original is so fucking good. Saw it when I was 8 (?) in the theater and few dozen times since.
Funniest part of your review was at 8:33. Describing the action scenes in that boring way really had me laughing. Subscribed. Cheers!
I actually like the robocop reboot to be honest. It wasn't as bad as people said it was.
It wasn't like the original sure, but a modernized version of it was pretty cool to be honest.
@darklyger64 - re: "to be honest" (x2) Do you use that meaningless phrase much in daily life, too?!? Are you NOT "honest" ... All The Time ?!?
Peter Weller did not turn down Robocop 3, he was just unavailable at the time, he even had a personal meeting with the Director and even tried to maybe delay the filming for a year or 2. But the Director could not wait that long for Peter Weller to return for the Role.
So he got somebody else to take over the Role.
The original (the Director's Cut version) is awesome, the second one, well... it was okay, but it was not as good as the first. The third film... it sucked.
8:27 Why were see-through raincoats ever a thing?! 🤣
8:53 Fun fact: Otomo's smoking is a reference to 8 Man.
Could you review all of the bat-man movies, and great review!!! I'm exited for a new vid!!!
The kid scared me when i watched it. I think it was the thought of a kid being in control with guns. kinda reminded me of the local bully gone ape shit. also a mix of thoughts about Lord of the flies
What happened was they turned Robocop 3 into a kids movie
Since the franchise was bringing in younger auduince, there was backlash from parents due to the graphic violence in the first two films
still cant believe this channel only has 100k subs. mark deserves way more attention :,(
I like Robocop 3. Ok it's not as good as Robocop 1 & 2 but I still enjoy it.
+DashieSparkle
It is the weakest of the trilogy, but it's still a decent movie.
true man not bad at all
fdyjt It was shit, just like the guy said!
lol Not as good as Robocop 1 & 2? And 2? Seriously?
he is the shit no worry
6:18 I guess in the defense of these guys not dropping there weapons, ED-209 still unloaded in the first movie after the employee dropped his gun.
Good point
The remake of robocop needed more action scenes and blood.
I have never seen burke's arm behind his back like that!
i'm a freak about these movies so i love learning new junk like that
hey mark review the new robocop xd :) i would watch it
The original Robocop was the first Judge Dredd movie.
I love your review, however I'm intrigued that you found the part where a totally incompetent guy became the Mayor of Detroit somehow unrealistic.
"Would you believe that this guy is the mayor of Detroit?" Ah... Yes
Still better than Robocop (2013)
*2014
Not even close
Venom NBK The new RoboCop is utter shite!
Venom NBK You know that awesome scene when Murphy gets blown to bits? Yeah, lets turn it into Murphy getting a dud from a exploding car, THAT SOUNDS SO F***ING AWESOME.
It wasn't...
2014 get your fact straight before spitting crap
ItJust Zul Griffin was a bastard...
flipingboredcritic its a kid... if i was part of the cartel, it would b really easy to dispose of him... how the hell do u compare a druglord to a music artist??? lol
yea i really dont blame kid actors even if they r bad cause ovisly if the film is bad its problynot their fault also they do need kids or even babies for scenes i think this kid did good andcould had went on to become adecent actor i know he was working for cain it was different instead of making the kid the good guy
Right... that's the same kid actor from an episode of Star Trek TNG that became an honorary Klingon.
That mayor became Kwame Kilpatrick, the former boy wonder who is now serving a long sentence in the federal pen for corruption.
And it took from 1993 to 2014
21 year later we get Robocop 4 aka a reboot that how bad Robocop 3 was
Just came across your channel, good stuff man! Subbed!
I could probably go on and on, but you get my point.
that arrested development t shirt is awesome
It's so bad even at age 12 when I rented this I knew it sucked.
back in the day, when this 1st came out, i made it 10 mins into it before stopping,...kudos to you for finishing it.😄
I loved Robocop 3. Sure, it has some weak spots and continuity issues, but the plot serves as a pretty good window into the struggle between establishment and resistance. Robocop 3 is pretty much the culmination of what has happened from the first film that leads citizens to ultimately become mobilized and fight back.
I liked 3 as well, I liked all of the movies
+Guy Heller I liked 3 the best too. I never cared for the 2nd one.
Agreed. ;)
liked Robocop 3 because its the Robocop atleast. not the remake trash. also the main theme composed by Basil poledouris were back.
hillncer1
I completely agree. The soundtrack is amazing!
Hey Mark, great review, as always, but I just noticed that you're cartoon picture actually looks a bit like, no disrespect, Mrs. Tweedy's husband from Chicken Run!
terrible movie hate it just awefull first one the best and always will be
I wish we had a version of the original RoboCop in all its glory with all that badass fight with Cain somehow fit in there.
RoboCop 2 isn't terrible, it's not great, but it can be a beer and junk food movie. RoboCop 3is unwatchable.
The original is a classic. I'm still yet to see the remake, I doubt I'll ever bother with it.
it's pretty fukin great dude
it is one of the best sequel films ever made
I dont get why some people still say that Robocop lost what he gained at the end of the 1st movie. He didnt. Everybody at the police station calls him Murphy now which means he still acknowledges that fact, he remembers his family and tries somehow to get it back, makes some jokes here and there, etc. He cant act any more human like that because well, he is a cyborg now so thats as human as he is gonna ever get.
I agree
review lady in the water
Robocop 2 is one of best movies from my childhood, how dare you! SEriously though, Mayor of Detroit? That was one of the best characters in the movie, the kid gangster with a girl twice his age, Kane with his projection. RObocop 2 is a masterpiece.
The remake was pointless
Given what a mess Detroit is, I can totally see the guy in _Robocop 2_ as its mayor.
The remake sucked
Um...no it doesn't
twas better than robocop 3 thats forsure
Yeah that's true. But RoboCop 3 was bad because...well...I don't have to explain it, Mark does it pretty well in the review xD. But the remake was just SO BORING!! Honestly, it's only SLIGHTLY better than RoboCop 3, but not by much lol.
remake didnt suck
however , if compared with the original
well , yeah
just awful
i liked the trilogy, first the best, i liked the weapon and jetpack on 3, but many years...i never noticed that arm hiding on back XDDDDDDDDDDDDD, but its just old movies of course. they didnt had so much resources as nowdays. i bet they had alot work than these movies of modern days and much low budget i think.
The mayor of Detroit is more believable than Trump as president.
More believable than a billionaire businessman yeah okay.. might wanna get checked for TDS
This is a video about robocop, get over it.
That's 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th
By the way he only banned criticism on college campuses were you already aren't allowed free speech because it's not a public area, same as a workplace.
That T-shirt is a recovery program for junkies in rehab
honestly, I actually liked the remake. I had low expectations was definitely liked it. surprising.
This sequel was awful 😡
Hmmm.... Methadone Acting Clinic.
I had an uncle who used to go there. We had to take him to his Clinic everyday at, like, 6:00 in the morning.
He always came home tired, and would fall asleep on the sofa.
(Must've been from all that ACTING)
1 and 2 i like 3 was crap
I agree with you :)
I was around 6 when I saw the first movie and it was showed on TV, uncut.
Damn, the early 90’s were a complete different time.
Am I the only person who thinks the reboot wasn't all that bad?
I lacked all the intelligence of the first and missed the mark on everything. The first was the best, with the news clips, and often the bad guys and the corporate guys would say the exact same sentences. Like the OCP's Dick Jones: "I say good business is where you find it", later Clarence Boddicker says: "Good business is where you find it" when dealing with the coke dealer. It's full of these pearls.
Andy Chow I wasn't even implying it was better than the original. I was just saying when compared to the *direct* sequels, it's not so horrible.
It was really good. But people wont be talking about the reboot in 25 years, however, people will still be talking about the original 25 years from now. Thats the difference between the remake and the original.
And to think the guy who wrote the script for this movie is the same man who gave us the "Sin City" graphic novel.
Here's how I'd rank the films (best to worst):
1) Robocop (1987)
2) Robocop (2014)
3) Robocop 2
4) Robocop 3
Remake sucked
Better than 2 and 3
No, the television series was better than 2 and 3, and three was a step up from 2.
