This was badly overdubbed leaving the original line noticeably audible under the dubbed one. Michael's line after their mother arrives was changed in the American release from "He's dead, Mom. He's dead." to "They can't help him. They can't." The alien father picks the bullet out of Eric and tosses it away before they revive him. I wish I knew better then, I saw this movie,my dad taped it on VHS, this advert came out 4 years before I was born... I was so young I had no idea what make of it.

That bit about the dancing in fast food restaurants "just never when I'm around" reminded me of this RPG from a couple years ago where whenever you go into a tavern they're playing this slow, quiet melody, but the moment you walk out the door you hear this jaunty little celebration piece. Almost like they're saying, "HOORAY! HE'S GONE!!! DRINKS ARE ON ME!!!"

My mom rented this for me and my brother to watch about ten years ago. About 40 minutes in the DVD froze because it was scratched to hell. We just shrugged, turned off the tv and went and did our homework.

I didn't know he did it multiple times. I just remember when he did that in regard to the series finale of Friends. It seems he wasn't completely joking, though, as I just now learned from FanboyFlicks that Mac & Me did at least have Jennifer Aniston in it.

Funny story: I was born in the late 80s, around the time this came out, and this was the ONLY movie my parents had on BetaMax so it quickly became my favorite movie as a kid. Like, watched it every day and learned how to fully operate the tv/sound/beta/speaker setup at like 4/5. When I got older I would tell people it how great it was and they would either not know what it even WAS, or would just laugh. It's a terrible movie, but honestly I loved this as a kid and still have a copy running around on the original Beta. This and Short Circuit.

I grew up in British Columbia, Canada, and in grade school, sometime during the early '90's we had this one school assembly where at the end of it, the principal pulled out a VCR and TV and made the school watch Mac and Me. No I am not making that up, and I still wonder to this day why they did that?
I don’t care what anyone says, I loved this movie as a child. It holds a special place in my heart. I cried when they were in that explosion and when they got citizenship. #MacAndRey
The explosion didn't kill Eric, I remember seeing the original cut as a kid, the cop trips over and fires his gun, hitting Eric.

I actually really enjoyed this movie, as a kid. We owned both this and E.T. but I preferred this one because it was just so goofy. I think it may be a contributing factor into my lifelong obsession with B-movies.

if i remember right. they cast Jade Calegory (Eric) despite the wheel chair. not because of it. he was actually unable to walk. which, to me, gives this movie a lot of credit. few, if not any other, movies ever do that.

I remember we used to love to watch this movie when we were kids just so we could make fun of it.
I love how McDonalds all of a sudden had quadruple open floor space in the middle of the building. No piles of chairs and tables, no divider for the “lobby”. However I waked into a McDs for the first time in years and did not recognize anything - an empty space with an ordering kiosk and the seating area completely hidden around the corner. 🤷♂️

Having been a kid during the 80's I remember it was a thing to have random dance sequences in movies. And birthday parties at McDonalds were huge in the mid 80's.

I can totally see why people would rate this movie as one of the worst ever, but when it's a movie from your childhood, it doesn't matter how bad it is, you still get the urge to watch it when given the opportunity. Let me put it this way, if I saw this movie today for the first time, I wouldn't even be able to sit through 15 minutes of it, let alone enjoy it. But I grew up watching this movie and for that reason I love it. The same goes for Flight of the Navigator, Garbage Pail Kids (The movie), Masters of the Universe, and even some TV shows like Punky Brewster, Small Wonder, and The Brady Bunch.

When I was a kid, I always wanted to see this movie. I got really confused and ended up watching Roger and Me instead. Then for years I believed that Michael Moore had made this movie about the CEO of GM and put a really stupid alien creature on the cover.

Regarding Mac and Me you clearly missed the concept that the Coke is not a product placement in the film. The opening scene on the aliens planet indicates that this is actually the Coke Homeworld and that is what they are drinking out of the straws at the start of the movie and is why Coke revives them at the end of the film.
Now... how the Company manages to mine and transport the Coke to Earth is a whole other movie, perhaps Coke and Me. (And that's not even getting into the idea that the Coke is actually sentient.)
