    On most watch bands there are arrows located on the inside of the band indicating in which direction the pin is to be removed. When reassembling replace the pin in the opposite direction of the arrow with the "split" portion of the pin going in last as this video shows . Also if a link does not have an arrow then that pin and link is to be considered non-adjustable.

  • @Darryl603
    @Darryl603 9 лет назад +11

    Worked like a champ! I would try not to squeeze more than you have to with the pliers, so that you don't flatten the wider part of the pin that keeps it in the hole. One way is to look closely at the pin and put the pliers on the areas where you see the split, that way it won't flatten the keeper. I watched your video before trying it on my own and it helped to see what to do first. Thanks for posting,

    Good vid. The great thing about it is that Nils makes a point that the split side of the pin goes in last. Very important piece of instruction missing from some other vids I watched prior to finding this one. Thanks, Nils.
    I used an opened paper clip instead of the push pin and did it on a wooden counter. Did this on my $400 Victorinox, but would def not do this on a 3K TG as someone asked here. Not everyone is handy, so why risk finding out that you're not. I put a piece of paper towel between hammer and pin when I hammered the pin back in to prevent scuffing. Then I used the paper clip to countersink the pin just a tad so it won't work its way back out after wearing the watch for a while.
    I think that blue tool, while it doesn't look all that convenient, is great when you want to make sure you don't scuff up your watch band with a missed hammer blow.

    Glad I could find this video. My watch that I bought came with a tool and I was unsure of what it was until I watched this video and realized it was just a tiny little pin device to help hammer out the latches. Had to remove two sections just to wear it tightly enough

    Thank you Nils, for giving me the courage to take a hammer to a new watch. :)
    If you file the point of the pushpin (wasn't he a Russian writer?) flat it's a little easier. And Bluebird Toffee Hammers are perfect for this.

    Thanks man was able to do it thanks to your video! Btw you can also use a cardboard box if you don't have a piece of wood lying around, it also helps to make a little hole on the box for the pin to fall on it!

    • @65revenge
      @65revenge 8 лет назад

      There should be holes on both sides of the link.....if you can't get the pin out by using one hole,
      use the hole in the other side of the link. These pins are not just a smooth piece of metal.....one end has a
      bit of a flare to it, so when linking back up be sure the flared end goes into hole first. This takes
      patience, but it's worth the effort....what's worse than a watch that flops around on your wrist!

    Multiple places in the mall were trying to charge me $20-$30 to adjust my strap, and the snobby Jewelers place that does it for free seems to be annoyed after you show up more than 2 times trying to dial in a perfect fit, so learning to do it myself is a huge win, thanks 😊
