Listening with awe at your talent. My late husband used to lay down tracks and serenade me with love songs, which I still have and cherish. Getting over that rainbow is pretty tough some days. Thanks for a sweet reminder of the joy music brings.
Ok, what’s next in the pipeline Russ- Three Dog Night’s “One Man Band? Wow man. You’ve got enough on your 🎸🎶🎧🎤 reel to last you another drive through Nova Scotia and the Cabot Trail. Excellent my friend!
Totally enjoyed this. Have been watching/listening to RUclips versions of this tune since hearing Paul’s original playing during the end credits of an episode of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Turns out there are many covers. Yours is one of the best. The arrangement is great and does what you intended it to do. Vocal is authentic -and gloriously in key, unlike some RUclips versions;). Well done 💯
I would never have thought you'd attempt a Carpenter's song - but I like your version. Karen was an impossible act to follow and the music was full of 9ths and just really great jazz chords that made her especially "pretty" in her singing. Her brother really knew how to extract the most out of her voice. Russ - congrats for entering a never-never land of music by The Carpenters. You did it well.

Thanks for this, Russ. Paul's "Life Goes One" album is IMHO a masterpiece. Several songs on it were both beautiful poetry and melodies. Thanks for acknowledging him in your narrative!
This was a nice surprise, considering that so many covers do not work out so well! Your vocal is great, as are the drums and all of the guitar work. (One of the keyboard tracks doesn't seem to help so much; I suspect it represents a string section, but it sounds artificial while the other keyboard tracks sound quite authentic.) Overall, a very skilled performance; thanks for sharing this video!
I've seen a ton of reaction videos on RUclips. I would give anything to see Richard Carpenter react to this one. Yes, I'm aware that it was written by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols. Russ, another home run.
Thanks, Bob...I appreciate it. As for the harmonies, there isn't harmonies on the original Paul Williams version (he actually sings in unison with himself in different parts throughout the tune), which is why I went that route. You're right though...harmonies would help thicken it up a bit. Many thanks for watching!
100% agree! Love both versions of this song but the Paul WIlliams one is the one I sing (well to myself in the shower LOL)
Some of us do our best work in the shower! Thanks, Rick!
I used to sing this song listening Karen Carpenter on record player.🎶 What can I say? Soft, cute, romantic and perfect.🎶
As always, many thanks, Katia...I appreciate it!
Such a sad song beautifully sung got shivers 🥰
Many thanks for listening!

Really nice, Russ. I love this arrangement. 😎

Another stellar job Russ! That guitar sounds amazing! I remember seeing Paul Williams on many 70s shows! Truly amazing talent. Thanks again!
Thanks, Chris. I remember back in the 70s when it seemed Williams was everywhere. TV shows, movies, talk shows, etc.

Williams-lyrics/Nicols- music UK release in 1972. Double A side was Goodbye to Love. You sing it beautifully.
Thank you so much!

That would be interesting....thanks!
Karen Carpenter is smiling down on you. Awsome job!
Many thanks, Andy; I appreciate it so much!
Good job Russ. Even in the original the bridge is the mismatched part of the song. Carry on!
Thanks so much, Robert! Yeah, I agree..the middle part seems a bit out of place.
Increíble como siempre!!!. Where is mind by: the Pixies, sería maravilloso!!!
Siii

What , you don't play saxophone...
Lol . Nice arrangement. Wish I could have added back up vocals.
Oh, I play sax....but only dogs will listen (at least until the treats run out). Thanks so much for listening!

I love this cover! I only wish your voice was louder
Thanks so much for listening!
Love it, but the harmonies on the chorus really add something to the song.
