Really great repair. Always appreciate these F-150 maintenance videos, thanks!
Thanks, Sleazy!
This is so crazy. I have the same Truck with that 3.5 EccoBoost. AND this vacuum pump has also started leaking. I can smell the burning full synthetic oil that drips down on that right turbo. I’ve been planning to replace it and upload a video to my channel but you’ve already done a great video! Nice details as usual so far; now back to the video!!..
@@Texasknowhow thank you very much! They seem to be a pretty common problem. It's really a jenky gasket. They should have known it would be a problem. Good luck!
@@89G- Thanks man. Yeah sort of reminds me of the mod engine intake gaskets - one for each runner about that same size. The camera thing happens at least you explained what didn’t get video’d.
@@Texasknowhow I need a cameraman, lol.
Replacing my vacuum pump today on my 2015 f-150, luckily mechanic was able to recognize I needed that and not a valve cover gasket
@@buffaloguy17 that is a very common mistake. I'm glad you got it fixed!!
Superb explanation and repair! I have to confess I haven’t had a new car in a long time! 😂 Im amazed to see parts like the one you just replaced on a late model Ford! In the past they would just give you all the boost without regard if you would have vacuum assist or not 😂!!! Ford has come a long way ❤
Hahahaha, exactly. They didn't even think about brakes ever... as all of us Fox owners know. Sometimes I feel like dragging my foot out the door would be better. put
It works best to let silicon set after finger tightening bolts for 1 hour then torque and don't crank up for 24hours.
That's a great tip.
Just took mine off today, goodness gracious those 3 bolts back there were sooooo tight. Did you go back with a little drop of blue locktight?
@Texasknowhow I didn't. I didn't see any on there from before, so I left it off. Hopefully it fixes your issue now!
Still holding up? I tried using my torque wrench and it fit but I thought it was feeling like to much torque so I just hand tightened hope I didn't under or over do it 😅
@sagegalley4350 yes it is. I'm sure doing it by feel was fine. 99% of what I do is by feel, lol.
@89G i am a heavy diesel tech so I do a lot of by hand as well just not when it's such a low torque spec I'd rather not strip it 😅
@sagegalley4350 I understand that! Head bolts, main bolts, bearings, etc.... I make those to spec. Most things I just go until it feels good.
picked up my 2015 from the dealer on yesterday for leaky vacuum pump and both valve covers leaking and the bill totaled just over 4100.00.
Holy cow!! I didn't realize how good of a deal I gave on this job. Good info to know, thank you!
How long does the silicone need to cure before oeprating? About to tackle this problem. Thanks
Sorry sir, I've been doing a water pump and timing job.... I use the Optimum, and I started it in 20 minutes. I appreciate you watching, and apologize for the late reply.
Just wanted to add... it's not under and pressure there, so I wasn't concerned about it setting up for long.
Heyyyy boss man long time no see man we used to talk alot had lost my insta but soon to get it back but I have to change the leadframe plate on my 2014 mustang
I was wondering what happened! The leadframe isn't too bad of a job. The only 6R80 video that I've done is a fluid change though... Are you getting codes for it?
@ yeah it is it’s running a p0720 code
@@sonicstang634 ah, yeah... classic!!
@ yessir so I bought one online and I’m gonna try to change it out now. Have any pointers for me?
@@sonicstang634 which one did you buy?
Why replace the whole pump and not just the gasket?
Great question. The pump can also leak in other areas. There is a backing plate that will often leak as well. I think a lot of us would rather just be done with it and no it's all new. You can indeed just replace the gasket, however. I do not recommend using an o-ring though. That's why this one leaked so bad.
This is the gasket, if you wish to replace it only: amzn.to/40SK2gY
never understood why they have to put 3 inch long bolts for small components.
They are indeed a bit long. I've heard of some situations when all 3 can't be removed due to the firewall being in the way. You have to snake one of the bolts out with the vacuum pump.
I was lucky that all 3 came all the way out :)
Nice vid, Ive been beating my head against the wall on this thing for a year now, my factory one started leaking, so I put a new gasket in it, yes, with the silicone in the right spots, soon it started leaking, so I bought a whole new pump with a new gasket, put that in, with silicone in the right spots, and it began to leak, so at this point Im not sure what to try, just been letting it leak, eventually it leaks onto the exhaust and stinks.. ugh
I had a similar issue on my Escape. After changing the oil cooler gasket 4 times, I decided to RTV it, even though it's not supposed to have it. It hasn't leaked since.
I looked at this and thought it could potentially be the same type of situation. How long are you going before it starts leaking again?
@ yeah. I’m going to buy another new gasket and rtv it on. Hope that cures it.
@@89G mine will start leaking on the exhaust within a week.
@@JohnVHLife that is very frustrating! I'm curious how it turns out for you wen you RTV it. It seems like the best solution to me.
a bicycle torque wrench works better...
plastic on the tube end ok i learns something today..just wasted my 3M 550 FC tube of good nees by just putting the cap back on ... if youve never used that stuff you need something to stay FOR GOOD somewhere that's it ..i put wings on cars with this ONLY no bolts..
eco boost f150 sorry no fan here seems like a was of every thing ..a v8 truck is the only way to go....
I'll have to look into the bike torque wrench. Nice tip... thank you! I don't think I've ever used a 3M product that didn't perform very well. Never used the 550 though. I'm a V8 guy too... nothing beats the sound. Thanks again!
I used the googleator to search for a bike torque wrench, and it gave me the same thing I got. Do you have one you'd recommend that I look at?
