It's beautiful, and it's only a suggestion but were you to fit the deck's footprint to the profile of the dome, and perhaps countersink it so that the dome is flush with the surroundings, it would really 'pop'. Mainly though, great work and thanks.
Possibly. But the dome raised above ground level helps keep it from getting water logged. If it was ground level the rain water would run across the ground inside!
Can you show what tool you used to cut the sheets of plexiglas and a shot of the process of cutting? Also, a separate video explaining your concept and measurement techniques and calculations to derive the shapes for proper overlap.

@@stav2421 Hi.. Is this already available on etsy's 7m product? if I buy it to make the 7m dome, do I already have a template for the door? How many sheets of polycarbonate will I need?
Hello Stuart...fantastic work! I am looking at your 5m dome on Etsy. Is there a way to create a design to accommodate a standard framed door? Would this be a custom design? I would like to have the bottom of the dome meet the door , but would like to know if some kind of extruded clear tunnel could then project from the face of the dome at the top and enclose the door on the sides and top?....Thanks , I hope to hear from you.
Hi. The domes on Etsy have a rectangular cutout for a door entrance. You could add something yourself to this. Or buy an hour or two of my design service to customise something for you with CNC cutting plans etc.
It's possible to construct a full ball but would need some structural support or really thick plastic . I created plans for a 3/4 bubble style dome at 2.85m diameter, but it needed support.
Great video. Has anyone finished building this recently? Can someone please give an idea of what materials to buy (apart from the plan from etsy), what amount, and possible cost?
For material costs, search sizes such as Facebook market place, I can see sheet plastic (3mm Polycarbonate) for £30 - £60 in the UK. The 4m dome will need approx 16 sheets of 4ftx6ft. £30 * 16 = £480. Other materials are approx 1200 * M4 Nuts and Bolts. And some tools to cut and drill with.
@@stav2421 wow that is soo cool! I have been looking at making a cnc table and it could cut these perfect. What do you think would be the size limitations with this material? Some videos I have seen say the bigger the dome the stronger it gets because of the frame.
@@Rays_Bad_Decisions you own CNC table would be perfect. I did them by hand and know how much work is involved! The 4m dome uses pieces upto 570mm2.. I have plans for other sizes. I've listed the max piece size on each listing. I've got 7m diameter plans, would suggest 4mm thick with bigger bolts and larger overlap for that size to add stability. 4m one is pretty.solid, I can lay on the dome whilst cleaning it without any problems.
Hi. Possibly.. I have not tried standing on it. But I can lean a step ladder against it and then lean on top of the dome to clean it. It's made from 4mm acrylic.
May I ask why add pentagons I see a lot of people use this technique but I know you could make one fully from hexagons and I'm wondering how come people don't?
@@iceoffire20 i dont `add` pentagons... this is mathematically how the shape works based on the geodesic pattern i chose ot use as a base. if you look up Class II polyhedra, Icosahedral (Goldberg) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldberg_polyhedron you will see the base design concept.

its easier to work out how many pieces you can cut from a sheet, as calculating m2 does not account for waste and limits of sheet size etc. if you have a max piece size of 566mm x 566mm, and sheet material of 1200mm x 2400mm you can get 6 pieces from this. (possibly a few more of the smaller ones depending how you layout and place the pieces) as 166 pieces are needed for the full 4m dome of this size (or smaller) 166/6 = 28 sheets of material would be needed. you can adjust you calulations for the dome size and sheet material size.
Awesome piece. How much is the plan? I am in india, can you give a special price? Also what's the diameter and the height of the Dome? Is it customisable? God bless you bro.
Hi. Thanks. Same cheap price for everyone. Cost to you will be dependent on your currency/taxes etc. Best if you just go to the link and see. 4m diameter dome, is 2.2m high at the middle inside.
