Wow 80acres that is like a forest on its own, so good to see such a setup. The world needs more and more trees. There is a saying here "plant a tree today, you might not be able to sit under its shade but your children will" . Where I live in South Africa they can claim the worlds largest urban forest with over 10 000 000 tress where there was nothing. Thank you Peter for showing your work and gems of a garden/forest like this one.

@@BlueSkyBonsai thanks. I was hoping to spot a suitable pot for the beautiful chunky crab apple I bought from Herons a couple of weeks ago. Though I saw a rounded pot that was exactly what I had in mind with lovely cloud feet it was a bit too small. The display shohins were beautiful - with some particularly striking tiny, twisty white pines. 😃
@@BlueSkyBonsai I surprised myself. I was armed with cash and credit card but was restrained today 😁 If there had been any tiny white pines with short, tight needles for sale though… Next time I will go without specific shopping list 😆😆

Hello Mr. Chan! I always like to see a tour of the big trees. I don't think I've seen some of the parts of the nursery in this video. Always something new.
What struck me was that the owners said that this was the first and last appearance at Chelsea. They complained about trees that had shed all their leaves during the transport.
Don’t feel bad about the 80 acres Master Chan your land is beautiful because less is more LESS IS MORE your place is way better hands down! There is no comparison to your nursery and garden!

I have a question: I read somewhere that candles on pine trees aren't supposed to be pruned in the fall , the reason being is that they will not regrow again. You just pruned them in the fall which means that it is not true. Is it possible for you to explain. Thank you for all your videos!

First time I seen the airation type pots that many if these tree were in I thought was just a gimmick but I guess if they uses them on such large trees in an industrial situation they must work
Same principles as Peter uses on the smaller Bonsai, think about the front, don't obscure the trunk, don't keep branches that are too low unless they are sacrificial, progress up the trunk alternate sides, if you need to wire, use the two branch principle, and watch lots of his videos 😉
Lovely to see these air-pruning pots called air-pots. Radial fibrous dense rootball is the key benefit. Bonsai community in general has been very slow to accept this science. Bonsai nurseries should be exclusively using such pots for growing pre-bonsai & for air-layering. Manual root pruning for pre-bonsai & air-layered cuttings in regular pots will be inferior to the results of air-pots. I have seen many pre-bonsai & some finished bonsai with ugly root deformations caused by root circling due to poor pot design. American bonsai experts who were educated in Japan are particularly ignorant or reluctant in embracing air-pots for bonsai. On my channel itself, i have 2 review videos of air pruning bonsai pots, sold by a friend of mine from Austria.
I want to learn how to grow big pre-bonsai trees, and maybe start my own nursery for deciduous pre-bonsai. So I'm looking for any resources/books to help me get the knowledge I need. I would appreciate anyone pointing me in the right direction.
I don’t know about books but Peter has plenty of videos where he shows how he grows his trees in the ground to fatten their trunks quickly. He also lets the roots of potted trees go down in the ground so the plant grows faster and healthier. Also plenty of videos on taking cuttings, air-layering and sowing. My advice is to browse Peter’s channel and make a playlist of all the videos with relevant content. I follow a lot of bonsai channels but they usually focus on the bonsai when it is in a pot. Afaik Peter, perhaps because he runs a big nursery, he’s the only one that gives plenty of advice and practical demonstrations on pre bonsai development. If you are a beginner in gardening reading some books about basic plants biology and how to take care of plants/trees in general would be a very good idea. Bonsai is a particular subset of horticulture so having at least a basic knowledge of horticulture helps a lot. Have fun and good luck!

We use plastic baskets like the ones used in supermarkets - for planting some of our pre bonsai

No you can't - its a commercial nursery and trees are supplied to wholesalers and to the developers of housing estates etc.
