Lex man, I hate to agree with Eric at 2:03:22, but he's not the only person to have really spoken about this. Jordan Peterson covers it as well in one of his biblical lectures. It goes something like this, "There are two permanent existential threats to humanity. Nature is the obvious one, and the second goes to organizations that grow too large, too unyielding, and too willfully blind to be incapable of being incorruptibly managed." -- Personally, I believe that there is a third existential threat now, with the harnessing of the Atom. However, if an extinction level event happened, and wiped out MOST of humanity, then that threat could potentially disappear, so it's not technically 'permanent'. This is EXACTLY why Joe Rogan's podcast is having episodes taken down, it's why Jack Dorsey is having things happen in his company that he doesn't even agree with.

Quite and his struggle with the 'evil ones' is therefor interesting. At 1:03 Lex is addressing the thought of 'cruel human beings' going against the interest of the US, after this election. Probably correct. But they have always been there, we just outsourced their cruelty onto the non-west second and third world trying to maintain economic 'growth' by augmenting the western sphere of influence. In part the west could lead a luxurious live because of these 'evil people' and we should not be so naive and hypocrite towards it. The post 2001 effort to 'change' the islamic world into a western controlled democratic world, more for less failed, so no more growth. Next, the logic reaction of the 'cruel beings' is to destroy the west itself, so that afterwards they can re-start on a new growth trajectory. There is cynical logic in that. We can only hope the goal of the evil ones is not post-reset Marxism, but it appears it is their path...thats not in their self- interest, so the evil ones need to re-evaluate their post-resest thoughts, stop the current madness and find another way to build an economy which does require 1) honesty about all unfunded liabilities (pensions) and 2) abolish the need for relentless growth by tweaking future economic setup (no more government bonds, only expansion of a flexible quantity of money) and 3) accept and allow China a seat at the table as the biggest economic power. The evil ones can still profit of such a system. I would much prefer to simply be honest and take care of the old and the sick on a local level ourselves for a while. Interesting to see if they choose the path of honesty or self-destruction (blaming it on Covid). Currently we are on the self-destruct COVID hype path....

Like Lex, I used to believe that every person has a core of goodness. I spent years trying to find that core in someone, with love, understanding, kindness, acceptance. All I got in return was lies, abuse, neglect and finally the most stressful separation and divorce imaginable. Finally I woke up and learned about narcissism, and other 'personality disorders'. Whether some people are born without the capacity to love, feel empathy or have a conscience, or if early childhood experiences cause this abnormal brain development to occur, I don't know. But the reality is, a minority of people have no core of goodness, many are good a faking it though.

I was born into a narcissistic family, then went on to have a string of abusive relationships. Getting free from my programmed pattern of choosing this for myself has been the only way I've been able to find genuine peace and happiness in my life. Getting free was a rough road though. One of the most interesting conversations I've heard in while. I felt as if I was watching a wise grandfather getting in debates with his very smart grandson. They butted heads at some points but always brought it back home and came to a mutual agreement with each other. This is a model of conversations should be.

He also makes himself small (in a good way) in the way he stamers out his question or concern. It's the dynamics, the dance, that we are watching. Eric is not dominating. Frankly, I love Eric's authoriative response. I would be disappointed if he gently blew smoke up Lex' ass as to not offend a random listener. I'm also a listener and I LOVE authenticity.

It's so nice to listen to conversations that are intellectual explorations yet also involve one person actually listening and responding to the other's thoughts and explorations. I think they used to have some level of that in talk shows way back in the day but then, obviously, the media devolved into the mostly vapid content of today. I'm re-learning to listen, reflect and absorb and even that takes time. I'm so glad there are so many of these podcasts to help sharpen my brain before it all turns to rot. Thank you.
(I wonder why these types of conversations don't seem to happen that often between women... I don't know yet. It's something I reflect on a lot - we talk differently, seems. Or maybe it's just that enough women haven't jumped into the fray to learn how to communicate without defensiveness when someone counters an argument or point of view... Maybe that's what the feminization of the political left is about - too much defensiveness and "sensitivity" about one's ideas. Just a muse... )

I'm a hardcore hip-hop fan, & to add to Eric's examples of Cash, Simeone; Eminem does the same in his song 'Lord Above'. He ends the line by saying "It's just on a side-note, me & Mariah didn't end on a high note." He actually ends it on a low note & never mentions the Mariah saga again, meaning he just left it on as a side note.
