Discover the Historical Photographs of China project

The RPS Historical Group continues is series of online talks about collection of photography in the United Kingdom. The speaker is introduced by Gilly Read FRPS, chair of the Historical Group.
Jamie Carstairs (Special Collections, University of Bristol Library) was the project manager of the Historical Photographs of China (HPC) project (2006-2021), digitising negatives and photographs and adding them, along with captioning information, to the HPC website. In this illustrated talk, Jamie will discuss why and how this was done. HPC is proof of concept for similar family-generated digitisation/dissemination projects. A selection of HPC images with special photographic interest will also be shown. The HPC project has now ended. Jamie is currently researching the work of Charles Frederick Moore (1838-1916).
