Had my first panic attack when I was 18, was taken in with a heart rate of 236 bpm... changed my life forever. 20 years I've had anxiety, fear of death, didn't leave the house for the first 5 years. It ruined my life. I lost my youth because of it. I started by walking to the end of the driveway had a panic attack went inside, then I got to the nearest lamp post then got back to the house, then a week later I got to the end of the street, was so scared I ran back rather than walking! eventually I managed to get out of my street and up to the local shop and back. I had about 3 panic attacks there and back. I used to play football, I had to quit because anything that got my heart rate up caused a panic attack. I ended up attatching my safety with others, my mum for example, so I wouldn't leave the house without someone else. I then spent 20 years studying the mind, anxiety etc and used myself as a Guinea pig. I'm 38 now, I've been on Escitalopram 20mg for 20 years, zopiclone and sondate (quietiapine) - One thing you need to talk about and the only thing that saved me is the 4-7-8 breathing technique by Dr Weil, and also mindfulness. Get the app headspace and use it everyday

Absolutely the most sincere person I saw in front of a camera, doesn’t have to pretend and think about what she’s saying and looking straight right through the person she’s speaking with. This is what I call intelligent. Very impressive podcast! It’s so rare to speak to someone so genuine like this nowadays.

I live in Australia and I saw Fearne on the 2017 episode of Mary Berry's Christmas, which was so heart warming and positive. I Googled the participants and Fearne was the one I wanted to learn about. Watching this podcast will be life changing for me I hope, even though I'm almost 71 years of age. I've been married and divorced 3 times so feel like a failure at relationships. The most precious part of my life is my 38 year old son and my 14 year old Burmese cat both of whom I would literally die for if I had to choose. Never far from tears when discussing loss and failure (like now), I've been to psychologists, psychiatrists, take meds to control my anxiety and depression but find the peace of happiness and acceptance so difficult to keep. Always up for a new learning curve, I've embraced painting, pottery, stitching, writing, renovating, farming, gardening, craft, horse riding, solo travel etc. but haven't found my Happy Place. Fearne speaks to me about what I've experienced in my life and I am therefore very excited to listen to her words of wisdom, read her books and hopefully be able to help anyone who wants to live their lives in an authentic vein. There have been many times in my life, and I am sure everyone else has done it too, where I have done things that have gone against my moral compass; these instances have without fail imploded on my core being sometimes years later but were so easy to agree to at the time. As I matured I was able to stand up to what was right for me and to put an end to situations that were toxic. THANK YOU FEARNE for baring your soul, for admitting your vulnerability and sharing your feelings so that people can take heart and be themselves.

Fearne is very self aware, but she isn’t just interested in being aware, she’s interested about being sincere. Sincere towards the fact that if you are a certain way then that’s how you need to be even if it means being a bit brave. That’s rare to see nowadays especially in the showbiz industry. Great podcast and great people, thank you to both of you for this

Nailed it. A wise manger once said to me when I was leaving the company and asked if the company would miss me.
With a glass of water in front of him he said, "stick you finger in the water".
    Which I did.
Then he said "now remove your finger from the water".
    Which again I did.
He then said "how much of an impression have you left?"
Cutting but it really put life in to perspective that you should do more for your self than others.
E116 and you are still bringing new information the audience. Very good FC & SB

What a delightful watch. It's so easy to fall into the trap of thinking people working in the media/celebs have everything perfectly worked out, when in reality it is completely and utterly not true. We're all just human, waking up each day trying to figure things out and live the best life we can. I ask the Universe/God for guidance too when I'm utterly lost as to what path to take/decision to make. Currently really stuck on a relationship one, whether to stay in this relationship which my parents completely disapprove of due to him not being of the same Indian caste and seeing too many differences/him not good enough for me. Or if I should walk away and believe that they are right...we've worked on building it into something beautiful, ofc it's not perfect as no relationship is, but it's the same question whirling round and round in my head every now and then as to whether we can make it work despite not having my parental support. In Asian communities having parental approval is *BIG DEAL* and it's just so ingrained into our culture, so anyone who does something very untraditional or unorthodox...well expect there to be backlash.
I still haven't found this clear sign from the universe, but hope it shows up soon. Thank you for sharing this and excuse my long message above dumping my personal dilemmas!
Also taking in the stars, nature, it truly is humbling and really helps to put things into perspective. To help out get out of our own heads and realise we are tiny specks in the grand cosmos! A reminder to not take things to seriously all the time, and to let go of things.
    Thank you Fearne and Steve

Free Place sounds like something I need.
I used to be a hairdresser then got hit by a car and lost my ability to work so after a long journey of exercise and health food.
It's scary when you compare yourself to other people. It's freeing when we ignore this negative voice in our head.
Can't wait to read this book.

Love how candid Fearne is - this episode makes me feel like I was really listening to a friend over a cup of coffee❤️Fearne was the total original 'Outfit of the Day' girl for me by the way. She used to upload a photo of her outfit to a designated page on the BBC Radio website every morning and I used to check it religiously in... 2008/9?? Another example of how the timing of her career let her be in the 'limelight' but not catapulted into a crazy online following at a really young age. Sounds nice to me compared to the millions of eyes on young public personalities these days scrutinizing their every move and being able to comment whatever they want. Another great episode. I have been a stay at home mum for years and have brought up a large family but my brain always tells me that im worthless, no job, no real social life, no real friends. My husband is the almighty powerful one cos he brings home the money. Ive always felt worthless for not achieving a career even though I wanted to be a mum. I can sooo relate to many aspects of what Fearne talks about within this podcast, such as taking time to connect with nature on daily walks (something I started doing 5 years ago to aide my journey out of depression) and realising, in the grand scheme of things, we shouldn't sweat the small stuff! Internal, negative self-talk is something I'm sure we all grapple with at some point in our lives, so I sympathise with Fearne and can't recommend meditation enough... it's a mental workout for the mind, which when strengthened, can be controlled to better respond, overcome and reframe internal thoughts. My mind is always awash with positivity after listening to this podcast so I can't thank you guys enough for putting this into the world as it's priceless to understand how all these wonderful guests, and Steven, think as it really enforces my own improvements that I've made and reminds me to congratulate myself on how far I've come. Fearne talking about her experience with imposter syndrome is so refreshing to hear.
I feel this way a lot at work. But to hear this from one of your guests gives me confidence that this is completely normal.
    Keep up the amazing work!

I've always had a crazy crush on fern. Since I was a kid and I used to see her on CBBC. Up until now. Saying that. Now I'm an adult I admire her work ethic. She's grafted and really made a women out of her self.

Aww, it's sad knowing the struggles behind the camera. I get the pressure of feeling you have to be almost a characture of yourself, but I've always felt warmth from the Ferne! Legend :)

A very open and honest lady. Great inerview. It's a theme of these videos that the person's life was formulated in their childhood. As James Baldwin might say "Children have never been very good at listening to their parents, but they have never failed to imitate them.". Imposter Syndrome is also a common theme I feel because deep down when we talk to ourselves we never really feel we deserve anything special. This maybe because we have created an environment were celebrities are idolised and the celebrity themselves just see's themselves as a normal person (which of course they are). Hense they don't feel worthy of such adulation.

Being the same age and growing up in the same era as Fearne, meant I was really able to identify with a lot of what Fearne said. I am looking forward to reading her book. She is a good human
