Great video. I didn't think about this subject when I moved to Portugal, I was happy to see that in Portugal freedom of expression scored very higher even higher than in the United States, Canada, and the UK. Also as a resident now I have access to their National Health Insurance (totally free). So far I'm treated very kindly here, and I'm trying hard to not let my biases of how black- Americans are treated in the US. Expecting that same treatment here in Portugal. So far, I've not had similar experiences here, but I do realize that racism is everywhere.

    I would add:
    1. Laws and safety for lgbtqa! Russia has laws banning gay marriage. Some countries you arent free to hold hands etc
    2. Drug and alcohol laws! Some people love cannabis or cbd. Its banned in several nations. Some places certain tabaccos are illegal. Drinking laws can be strict too!
    3. Proximity to NATO or Us Friendly country: if it hits the fan how far are you from a nation friendly to the u.s.?
    4. Crime: people have been locked up for a small fight or argument not knowing the criminal system.
    5. Diversity: this is huge for a lot of people. You can look up the demographics.
    6. How are the children treated: i am not living in a country where TRAFFICKING, child labor, no orphanages are the norm. NOPE!
    7. Societal norms for women: this is huge in orthodox or muslim nations. Dress codes, living arrangements etc may be an issue for individuals or couples. What rights do women not have there?
I am not well travelled but i am well versed in geopolitics and laws abroad and history in relation to black folks!

But that has been the rarity - the one off… you know how you’re having a bad day and God just sends you little kisses… ummm yeah. Upon arrival, I was struggling with treatment from cashiers ( people throwing my change at me) co-workers -etc. I spoke with my director about the difficulties and he said I quote “well, it’s your fault people are racist, your Spanish is bad. “😒it was downhill from there. I’ve had some great experiences in Madrid, although many sisters there have had many of my same complaints. Going to Madrid makes one grateful just to see another black person. I think black people need to think and really contemplate whether or not they are ok with not actually seeing much less speaking to another black person. I have a white American friend here ( and lo-key she made the best stuffing I have EVER had for thanksgiving this year) but it’s not the same…so yeah, the fetishization the racism the looking the other way and the whole straight hating on an educated black woman( finishing up masters and on to my doctorate currently) and the expectation of me looking the other way when they are hateful to the Africans here. Being and American excludes me from the utter virulent hatred of Africans but my fellow professors are annoyed when I call them out on how they treat them. So - ummmm - yeah - Im out!

It seems unlikely that she would be carrying prohibited items in her luggage... she's lived in Russia for quite a while and would have been well aware of the risks particularly as Russia wages war against Ukraine. Edit: The right wing in the US is dealing with a large number of people who essentially want to turn their personal political and religious beliefs into law for everyone. Also the GOP has been underfunding city and rural schools for decades while making sure their own children's schools are incredibly well funded. Part of that is an attempt to make sure their children come out ahead.

This is right on time for me. I was heading to Portugal this spring to do a scouting trip because I want to leave the US possibly permanently. But then this mess with Russia erupted and all I see is European sponsored evil. The same type of evil that I’m suffering in America. I’m a veteran. I served this country working in special operations in Europe in the late 90’s. What’s going on over there and here is very triggering to me. I changed my flight to go to Mexico inspired by you and some Dani Ellison videos. I’ve never been to South America. Just here and Europe. I’ll be there this spring. Hoping to feel what freedom feels like for an American black woman finally. Thank you for these videos. Now I’m also thinking about Costa Rica and other places. My mind is more open and aware.

They just blindly go along with the flow. The grass is not always greener. People need to think, to ponder, ask questions? Look before you leap. Feel free to weigh your options. Here's another old saying to consider. "Fools rush in, where angels fear to tread".

@@NicoleJButler Ms. Butler I just shared with my comment. In no way I want to discourage you in finding that perfect place to live. Unfortunately there is no such place. The eternal yearning of the human spirit to find the best place to live is what make them cross mountains, rivers and oceans. I am worried though by the fatalistic view by so many black Americans that the US is the worst place on the planet for them. We have black people from all over the world that have moved to the US and are enjoying all the fruits of the fights and struggles of the Black Americans. As for me I prefer to be grounded in the South of the US. This is where most black people live, land is cheap and beautiful and most of the HBCU's are located. I feel safer here than other whiter parts of the country. Booker T Washington in his "Atlanta Speach" had urged black people to "cast their buckets where they are in the South", instead of going North. Instead of been slowly killed in the streets of Minnesota, it is better to reverse the great migration and moved back down here. Ask Tyler Perry who live in Atlanta or Morgan Freeman who always try to run back to Mississippi how good life is down here.

From a young age, I always knew if I had been born dark skinned, I would not have remained in the USA. It’s great that you found better options and are helping others to see that they too have better options.
I know your branding targets dark skinned women, but dark skinned men also need this kind of information and more importantly, your kind of inspiration.
Your channel is important in letting people know that there are better countries to live in than the USA.
While living overseas for 4 years, I was constantly told by people there that their dream was to live in the US. I laughed at their naivety and did my best to correct their delusional misconceptions.
If I were dark skinned, my number one priority for choosing a new country to move to and live in would be racial equality, and not equality because it was legislated and enforced, but because it naturally exists there.
I can’t begin to imagine what it is like to be dark skinned, but I do know as a gay man, some people are treated differently in different places based on appearances, etc. Not wanting to be in highly racist or anti gay community, I always gravitated to living in cities with multi-ethnicities and protections like NYC.
Now, I enjoy living overseas. I’m back in the USA temporarily, taking care of stuff, but am planning to move overseas again in about six months.
I was delighted to discover your channel, even though I am not your targeted audience. You’re a breath of fresh air. Keep up the great work.
    I wish you much success.

Excellent address of the “elephant in the room”. These are things that I’ve been taking into consideration when looking at other countries, but I had not thought about the education piece; great info for sure! The reason you listed for Turkey is exactly why I’m no longer looking at them. I’ve also been reviewing local unrest info when it comes to injustices experienced by other black people abroad; primarily our African brothers and sisters because their experiences will mirror ours since you can’t tell by looking at us if we are American or from an African nation. These stories are very concerning and are a major reason why I’ve removed Germany from my list as well. I’m focused on Portugal right now because of prior visits and the positive reviews from other black expats; but have found that Portugal is not without its share of injustices to black people when it comes to dealings with the police. My other requirement is to find a place that is not too close in proximity to areas that experience unrest and/or war or are in an area that has the potential (I’m very risk adverse when it comes to things like this); another reason why Turkey is off my list. This means keeping my ear to the ground on worldwide news as well, this preparing to live abroad thing is a lot of work for sure. So, again, many thanks for those of us who are on the hunt for that “just right spot”.

I almost accepted an international teaching job in China. My gut kept telling me that was not the move 💯. Luckily, a Middle Eastern country offered me a position.
I’ll say this: if one feels uncomfortable about any situation it’s highly likely that that’s not the move you should make. If you find yourself continuing to ask or inquire about a country’s treatment of blacks, you might want to go the other way. Now, I’m not saying all of China is bad and I know some who have great experiences there. I do plan to visit and vacation there in the future. Shoot, I may even change my mind and work there. But for now, after the things I heard, I knew it was best to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Juring the Covid, China was kicking Black People out into the street from their homes. Some places like restaurants, night life, etc wouldn't let Blacks in and some hotels wouldn't let foreigners in altogether. However, Blacks are not being murdered by Police Officers on a regular basis in China. All in all, I'd rather live in China than ever set my foot in the United States ever again. May God Bless Black America
The difference between China and the US is that at least in this day and age you wouldn't be prevented from entering any public place just for being Black. But it's not because America is not racist, It's rather because laws made in the name of Political Correctness compels Americans to not prevent Blacks from entering public and private establishments. However, worse than racism is what Blacks endure in the the United States of America primarily in the hands of White Policemen, which is MURDER under the guise of self defense, fear and mistake motivated by race
