At 0:46 when the RPM's start to climb it sounds like a old 2-stroke Detroit Diesel, and as it climbs, sounds like one where the fuel rail broke stuck wide open
My buddy did a choppy 180 header on a 302 swapped bmw about 5 years ago. It sounded alot like a coyote engine. This here just sounds like shit, no other way to put it.
what are the Specs, Heads, Cam? I used to race a 289 in an open wheeled modified limited cube class against Chevy 283's. I found my combo to be very competitive (70 351W heads, Holley 650 on a ported torquer intake w/solid tappet 544lift 270 duration cam) I always estimated this would put out about 400hp...looks like I was a little bit conservative. Oh, I used Schoenfeld 180 Degree crossover headers, sounded more like a big block...lol
180 degree headers. The pipes from the two center cylinders of one bank share a collector with the two outer cylinders of the other bank. It creates an even pulse in each collector every 180 degrees of crank rotation vs the usual 90 - 180 - 180 - 90 degrees of crank rotation. Hence the much different sound. These are usually better for power, but won't fit many applications.
I have a1965 Mustang Fastback also, did you make the headers yourself? Your in Finland correct, my brotherhood? Impossible to find 180' headers to fit small block motors here in the US. Curious how they fit. My brother has 70 BOSS engine in his 65 that has crossover 180' headers very tight fit with the big BOSS heads.
These headers are mad in Finland by Otavan Teräsmies Oy. (www.otavanterasmies.fi/kaasunvaihto.htm) These are totally custom made headers for that Ford 289 race engine specifications. The numbers are 450 hp / 7000rpm and 376 ft/lbs / 5300 rpm.
Wow....been a mechanic for over thirty years and never heard a v8 sound like this...i worked on 289 before, never heard this!
Fred Mendez it’s the way the headers are made, you can get a similar sound with a flat plane crank
180 degree headers

Sounds like what some NASCAR teams ran back in the 80s. Those 180 degree headers make such a difference in sound.
I love these 289hp. Put one in my t bucket. Revs like crazy!
The 180 degree headers makes this cross plane V8 sound like a flat plane V8 or two synchronised 4 bangers. Not a sound I like but very interesting.

@@bryanroupe8646 you talking about that lemon race e36???
Thanks for explaining! I was thinking this ain’t a 289 because it sounds like a four banger!
You don't see those headers every day, I had an uncle who ran a set of those on his car they made the car sound like a Buzz Bomb that hauled ass.
Sounds almost like a cosworth v8
Because of the 180 degree headers.
I love a 289
180 deg headers for the GT-40 sound? See a few these @ Willow Springs Open Track Days. Thx share & Cheers!
Sounds great.. but what were the numbers?!!???
Sounds like an Indy car engine.
The revolutions and tuning make it sound way different
It's because of the 180 degree headers.
All the ticking and knocking
The 289 when tricked out block and heads will produce 1000 HP all day at that. My fave engine. Sweeet 10 000 rpm sounds beautiful
aaaaaa. no
@@barrykennedy9947yes sheeple. 289 can be up to 8-10000 Rpm. Stfu
180* headers or a 4 banger ? Odd
I'm confused which tubes change sides? 5 and 3 firing order is 15426378 correct ?

Do pipes crossing under the oil pan cause any oil temperature issues?
Racer X Rated yes they can. That's heat shields help mitigate that
@@luciankristov6436 figured as much. Seems to be far easier on a mid engine car.
And no one noticed the fuel drip from the output on fuel regulator 😳😅
What power? Perkele nice
450hp / 7000rpm and 510Nm / 5300rpm. 444hp / 7500rpm and 428Nm / 7500rpm. I like to see 100 hp / litre, but not this time. I´m looking for that.

That doesn’t sound a 289 man what type is that
anthony sanchez a 289 with a flat plane crankshaft as opposed to the conventional cross plane.
@@TheSleepyMechanic0524 it's not a flat plane crankshaft, but 180° headers that emulatue the exhaust of a flatplane v8. same as on a ford gt40
Hmm 🤔 flat plane crank negatives =more vibration and sounds like a 4 banger.
It's the 180 degree headers, not the crankshaft.
please throw those headers away , sound like crap .
sooooooooo, maaaaay be 450hp ? for what, 10k?.......no thanks.
