You’re right, as the owner of a Coyote these 289-302 engines sound way better. I think it’s due to the different firing order that the Coyote shares with the flathead Ford.

Excuse me sir. Did you know that the 5.0 coyote is the 302 but completely redesigned? Back in the 80s the 302 CI name was changed to 5.0 L because of the metric system. Later on in the 90s or early 2000s I think was when it was face lifted and given overhead cams increasing its power at high rpm.

That is a sweet sounding V8 ABSOLUTELY. My first car at 16 in 1979 was a 71 XY Falcon 500 sedan. I put a 68 Mustang 302 Windsor with a top loader and disc brakes. It was a standard block and heads with Edelbrock Torker hi-rise inlet Holley 600 vac secondaries and a genuine shaker ram air inlet with vacuum flap removed. Also had headers and twin system. Everyone knew my old Ford it was super cool. That little 302 Windsor saw many excursions in to 7000 rpm through the gears and it absolutely flew. Never missed a beat in 15 years I had it and just gave it 5000 km oil and filter changes. Being a 4 speed made it a real drivers car and going for squirts through the local hills running it up and down the rev range in second gear was awesome. The cam and inlet and carby and headers were perfectly matched. The stock Windsor block and heads took it all day long. I sold it and have never been happy with a car since. I have 3 old 60s Fords now and I love them way cool but will never beat my XY. Small block Windsor's have a great exhaust note. Cheers for the video with pure sound, loved it.

I'd love to tell you the specs, and if I can obtain them I'll let you know. I know that it's a Comp solid roller camshaft. It works so well in this combo and hits hard in the lil' 289. Cheers, Steve.

@@dennisyoung4631 = Run it next to a comparable 283 or 327 Chevy and the Ford's distinctive, high revving sound will stand out big time! This 289 engine was tweaked by Shelby American to the point where it had no problem whatsoever hammering the larger displacement Chevy 327 Stingray in SCCA B Production racing, winning the Championship 3 straight years - '65, '66 and '67. Put a damper on the new Stingray it did! Funny thing is, the Mustang was never built to compete with the Corvette at that time. Shelby made sure it not only competed with the Vette, but downright slaughtered it! 🤠🏆 🏁

What all did you do to get that 289 to rev that high? I have a 67 Cougar I'm building as a TA car, and haven't quite figured out what all I need for building that high rpm 289

    • @DPETE611

An extremely strong bottom end!! Then get on the heads, cam, roller lifters, proper valve springs, etc, intake and such. Blueprint the block with a great machinist, ARP stud and bolt everything and never buy cheap parts…you’ll end up with a bucket full of hot, oily pieces.
Also driveline and a properly geared rear end gear for your use.
Don’t forget the oiling system to keep it alive, as well as a great cooling system.

Even the mighty Predator? The only thing Ford has that can keep up with the Predator even remotely is the 427 SOHC, which is vastly more powerful than any other stock American V8 that came out of the 60s. Built? That Predator can handle 2500 all day on stock block (with sleeves), stock crank, and OEM heads. The sky is the limit for the Coyote platform.

Equal length headers into 3" X Pipe, and then twin 3" exits near the back wheels. An enlarged oval exit at the tips finish it off. A real cracker on this engine. Cheers.
