    The lads have a go at Division 6 of the Cabin Fever Challenge 2024, a celebration of traditional musketry run by ‪@Riflechair‬ in Canada. Full details here: www.riflechair.com/cabin-feve...
    Basically the deal is, in this order: 5 shots standing - compulsory reload (no leaving one in the chamber) - 5 shots kneeling - compulsory reload - 5 shots prone - compulsory reload - 5 shots sitting, on a 4" target at 50m, timed from the first to the last shot. Score is 100x(hits x 5)/time.
    Bloke is shooting a Nordic Components 16" AR-22 upper with a Tandemkross Pro compensator on it, on a KP-15 lower with KP Rekluse 4.5lb trigger. Scope is a Primary Arms SLx 1-6 LPVO set at 4x, with a Triggercam 2.1 taking footage through the scope. And it's a good thing that he had the scope camera!!!
    Chap is shooting a French (natch) Unique X51bis with iron sights for hard mode.

    I had the same problem as the Bloke when I had to quality at the range for my job, where I know all of my rounds hit in the center of the target but because there wasnt a distinct hole for every shot I didn't get a perfect score. It's frustrating but I still got the highest score that day so I can't complain too much.

    I did something similar to this recently, but it was a military competency test with 7.62 ammo. Actually also had the issue whether one hole was 2 or 3 hits, though i am pretty sure it was 3. Due to the rules, if your groups are very tight, shoot faster!

    Great concept and fun video. I am gonna try this in southern Arizona for sport with my teenaged son and my 1982 Ruger 10-.22 and he with his much newer, very swanky full length stocked "European" Mannlicher Schoenauer 10-.22 model in matte stainless. Crappy but accurate old 3x9 scope on mine, irons for my young son's eagle eyes. And crack on Chap, thats a cool rifle!

    The little NSRA range i'm a member of is only indoor 25m. (just for a little bit of fun obviously, although i could see if any other members in the club want to shoot and have few beer tokens on it or something) If the 100m is 8" target, 50m is 4". i could give it a go on a 2" taget at 25m and see how we get on?!?!

      Yes, I have a similar issue at this time of year. One club has a 100m outdoor range but it is open, so nobody shoots when it is raining (all of the time at the moment) and only has a 25m indoor range. My other club is completely indoors, with a 25m, 35m and 100m range but the 100m range is normally pretty busy and is difficult to organise for 50m shooting. I will hopefully get around to doing this comp though next year (looking through the classes, I think I can shoot 4 of them (shooting with a Baikal break barrel would be interesting lol).

    I thought that was the double hit as soon as you started to discuss the possibility. It appeared to be a bigger impact hole than the others. An interesting challenge and one I wish I could participate but unfortunately Australia doesn't allow semi-automatic long arms, even in .22LR, unless you are a professional varmint hunter or rural producer.

      That's not really true fella. All recruits learn with irons and the army CMSR range packages are far more extensive than the cursory familiarisation training that RAF and RN personel receive with the exception of the RAF Regiment who must go to ITC Catterick. There is also a large chunk of the army other than the infantry who only use irons. The RAF ground training package by comparison which teaches very very basic infanteering skills is all of two weeks. 5:23 5:23 5:23

    I know range stuff is what you like but do you have any local land to shoot on ? I guess that as a English shooter I am very lucky to have a farmer who is friendly and sets very few limits on me ( there's not much live stuff to see ) but it's the freedom to come and go as I please that makes a few hours sitting under a tree with whatever I want to bring a real joy . there's a lot of local ranges nearby but they have a pay by the hour or you have to book well in advance .

    • @BlokeontheRange
      @BlokeontheRange  4 месяца назад +3

      You can't just shoot over land here. It's not 100% impossible legally, but a) having enough land, and b) having it secured to the level the law requires to shoot over is too onerous really.

    • @BlokeontheRange

      Either you need a hunting permit, or you can do "self-protection" against pests on your own land without being a hunter, but you have to obey all the hunting laws/rules. The UK is really quite liberal for being able to shoot over land.

      @@BlokeontheRange I don't need to prove myself to be a better shot to point out that it really is unnecessary to use a 1-6 scope on a high-contrast 8 inch bullseye target at 50 meters and that precise sight picture acquisition with irons is more difficult simply due to focus and observation/correction issues, hence using optics is usually easier (which is why there are different categories like "Open" and "irons" in some matches). In fact I'll easily and openly admit that, although I've been seriously interested in firearms, I have shot probably about 500 rounds in my life plus 8k pellets out of my air pistol, so I am a novice shot, although not a bad one for a novice. So what? Does that invalidate my argument? Of course not.
      By the way, please note my choice of words in the original comment. I did use the words "almost feels like cheating" because, firstly, it obviously even technically wasn't cheating, secondly - I do understand that there's more to accurate rapid shooting than aiming, and I have nothing to say on the other shooting aspects whatsoever, you clearly are a very competent shooter. My comment specifically focused on the aiming aspect of shooting. And on voicing my feel that the application of a 1-6 scope set at 4x at that target and distance definitely makes the challenge easier, even if slightly (although it seems to be a decent help in spotting if you are throwing shots and where). My sympathies to Chap for reasonably going irons (and some more extra - for using an obscure firearm with anything but AR ergonomics).
