Highlighting the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Full Bronze

  • For the first time the bronze big crown pointer date gets a full bronze bracelet option. In my opinion it completes the model. It helps the dial options stand in full contrast or compliment to the red hues of the metal. This uncommon material helps keep Oris's longest running continuous design fresh and relevant in today's market. I was surprisingly drawn to this new model. Especially the Bordeaux and Blue dial options. What do you guys think?

    Honestly the bronze look is growing on me day by day, with every new browsing session that I do on watch websites. I’m so close to grabbing this watch with the burgundy dial, it would be the most expensive watch in my collection by far, and of course my first bronze watch. The thought of not liking the patina doesn’t worry me, because I believe I will enjoy the look of it no matter what, but I will say I feel as though I could break into this price tier with a different choice and be happier. I know I will enjoy this watch a lot, but at this price point, it will be a while before I am able to dip back in and look to purchase another watch, say 16 months, so I just want to be sure I’ll be happy. Full honesty too I intend on attempting to wear it daily, and do a Timelapse of the patina, and also possibly using a heavy metal hand cleaner, like auto techs use, to try and keep my wrist clean, but I’m going to look into the discoloring effect more too before I buy. I’ve been looking at it for about a week now and I’ll give it another week before I make my decision. So far though, out of any bronze watch I’ve looked into priced USD$2500 and below, this one seems to be leagues above other bronze models in this price category. Love the cotton candy full bronze too, but those colors are a bit adventurous for me. Great vid!

    I personally would like to see more watch brands utilize sterling silver in their watch cases and bracelets because it patina's to a very beautiful yellow blue and easily polished if so desired

    Good video! As a long term Oris customer( 5 in collection), I am.finding that with time, I prefer not to worry about magnetism. I have upgraded to Omega, Railmaster, as a daily watch, mainly for this reason. I have the 80th Anniversary Oris,Pointer date, and it's a nice watch, to wear sporadically. I believe, the Sellita movements , in Oris , are slowly be coming a liability, in terms of specs , such as power reserve, anti magnetism, and increasingly, value for money, as their prices increase.

    I've been a fan of the pointer date for a long time after all it's a date that you can read whatever the time without it being obscured once an hour by the minute hand. I have a steel oxblood dial on the reindeer strap and it's one of my favourites. I do like the bronze but I'd need to see it in the flesh first, it would also have to have that oxblood dial.

    The Pointer Date is probably my favorite Oris along with the classic Aquis and this bronze version is really interesting. With the burgundy or the blue dial I think it looks amazing. The only thing that I haven't understood yet is how I feel about the patina that the bronze naturally have. Is it for me or I only like it when it's brand new? I have to understand this before to decide if this could be my first Oris.

      Hi. I have 2 Oris bronze watches and they are awesome. I do NOT like patina, so I clean them regularly. It is very easy. Have this standing ready close by: A cloth and a bottle of lemon juice. Splash juice on the cloth and rub for 45 seconds, and the watch is clean and shining like new. I probably do this once or twice a month. It really takes very little time, but that is the price you have to pay if you don’t like patina. I happily pay this price. So try to patina the watch and if you don’t like it, use cloth and juice.

    Excellent video Bruce. Love Oris, not tried a bronze watch, really don't understand the appeal TBH. Not a colour I'm fond of when it's new, & a patina'd watch just looks dirty to me.

      Completely agree. Bronze watches look great brand new but after a year they look dirty and like they've been worn for 20 years. May be a look some people desire but I can't understand why.

    It's very Bad when a CEO has to use reverse psychology to sell a product! It is quite simply an excuse for the bad choice of material used on a NEW release. Excuses are usually never admitted publicly by any manufacturer and are often addressed with an updated model after public feedback, and only once they manage to sell existing stock. Bronze is just not a practical metal to use on a bracelet even if you do shower everyday. It looks great of course. It's an expensive and impractical novelty. Great review as usual Bruce, you have one of the best channels on RUclips.

    What a lot of people do not know about bronze patina is that it still requires the user to wipe down the watch somewhat regularly so that the oxidation happens evenly over its surface and eventually develop a consistent protective layer. This is akin to the advice to shower with it. Sure, it will take longer to get the vintage bronze patina look but it will be less likely to patina unevenly or get out of control like Tetsuo at the end of Akira.

    • @dancinglizard3080
      @dancinglizard3080 2 года назад

      what do you exactly mean by "wipe down"?

    • @MrJamesDuffy
      @MrJamesDuffy 2 года назад

    • @MrJamesDuffy
      @MrJamesDuffy 2 года назад

      ...but not polish vigorously with the cloth unless the patina is already very uneven. Then again, some people like uneven bronze patina so it really comes down to one's preference.
