Sir you GREATLY deserve a pork chop dinner from texas roadhouse !!!! I've got to do this exact job on exact cars..hell it's even the same color. Great job..its guys like you that helps us wanna be amateurs shade tree mechanics step up our game. Again well done !!
Thank you so much for this. Got the exact parts u linked in the description and it worked like a charm. Just a heads up the compressor is missing the OEM pins that keep the hoses in line. Was able to fashion some out of some small rods I ground down. But this tutorial was a life saver. Thank you for taking the time to do this and help me save a ton of money!
Great job! What I recommend is not using air to pressurize the system to check for a leak air contains moisture. I use dry nitrogen. They also say your supposed to replace the dryer but I'm not sure where that's at and the expansion valve. Not sure where that's at. My grandson has this type of car and we're going to attempt to replace the compressor due to the fact according to my leak detector it's leaking around the seals on the shaft of the compressor.
I just bought a brand-new OEM for $ 200.00+tax=216.00 for my Kia soul 2012. Isn't a good deal? I live in the desert, so in summer the heat is extreme ( 110+). if it's a drop of oil daily is not bad? is my wife daily car, so I'm scare the compressor block and the car could stop working suddenly. Maybe I wait until the summer pass and then replace it. Just the compressor and like you said the O-rings. Or wait until it broke completely and then just buy the expansion valve and condenser together. Thank you so much for your answers.
That price is not bad for an oem. If the compressor is getting weak , replacing just the compressor may be a good option. If it failed all together they can sometimes have particles. Sometimes it is question of how much someone is willing to put in to an used car. Most of the time I will just replace the compressor , but sometimes will replace the condenser and expansion valve to be on the safe side. Thanks for watching.
@@BabyDraco1194 Easy and not easy, but if you want to do it, go for it. I'm on this right now. Evacuated, replaced the compressor. I did not replace O-rings or filter or expansion valve. I did Vacuum and it hold good, so I will let it sit for the night and tomorrow I will put freon.
Do I need to replace expansion valve or the condenser, or the drier if I replace the Compressor? Mine is 2012 kia soul and never done anything on it. Compressor is leaking oil at the bottom, but the a/c is cooling normal.
I honestly would leave it alone if it is still cooling. The oil leakage may be minute. Another thing I factor is the age of the vehicle , the real goal is getting things working without investing more than it's worth. The orings would be worth replacing on the compressor for sure , but I would not disturb anymore than needed. Thanks for the feedback.

It is a 3cfm 2 stage Pittsburgh from harbor freight. This thing has been a beast. I went with a set of guages from autozone however , just liked the way they functioned better. Thanks as always for the feedback.
This one had no ac at all . The compressor was not working. I am not real sure about the hissing sound , maybe someone else can chime in. Wish I could be more help and thank you for the feedback.
It can be expensive . Even in my area 800 to 2000 , depending on what they want to replace. Cheapest way is to have it evacuated , get a compressor (used works fine) and do the replacement yourself. Replacing the ac compressor alone will save a lot of money. Afterwards take it to a shop , have them add a little oil and charge the system. Usually charging the system should be 200 or less at a shop , but that depends on the area. Thanks for the feedback.

Just wanted to update. The ac system is working perfectly , blowing out 40 degrees . Glad to have this working . Thanks everyone for watching.
I'm an ASE CERTIFIED mechanic. Alldata brought me here! I was just doing a quick check to get an idea on labor. You nailed it!!!
Thank you very much for the terrific feedback , much appreciated.

Great information , thank you very much for sharing and for the terrific feedback.
Nice video, I have question , do I need to take out the Freon to change AC compressor switch in this 2015 Kia?

Which manifold gauges and vacuum pump do you recommend/used in the video?
I bought a set from autozone , they have been decent guages. I am still using the same gauges . Thanks for watching.

Was this a relatively easy job? My girls ac compressor just went out but she doesn’t wanna pay crazy price if she’s going to get rid of it

Don't need to replace O-rings?

Was it just not blowing cool? My system has been making a hissing sound lately

It's the pressure between the high side and low side equalizing if it's when you turn the system off.
What is done with old compressor ??
what does a job like this cost on avg
