I only visited Vienna once, traveling with my boyfriend last year, but we instantly fell in love with the city. Didn't take us long to decide that this is a place we want to live in, so we're moving here from Poland in November. 😅 Great video, definitely gonna be a lifesaver once we're here!! 🙏
Haha, been living in Vienna for 11 years and I'd never think to actually advise anybody on the shoes thing- guess because I'm so used to it- but, you are completely RIGHT!
As a native Viennese I must say that there are some things you mentioned that I've actually never thought about simply because I'm just used to them my whole life but for tourists they can be real game changers indeed. 👍 Ein sehr gelungenes Video, ihr zwei! Ich werde mir bestimmt noch ein paar weitere von euch anschauen. 🙂
@tubekulose I'll be in Vienna this week. May I ask you where to get the best schniztel and sacher cake? I have found some but I'm afraid they are touristic traps :(
Here's one I made: I didn't keep track of the closing time of the Schönbrunn and got locked on the grounds. I saw some people climbing the wall, which I also did. When I got to the top, I was afraid to climb down. There was a restaurant across the street with a ladder outside. I asked if they might move it to me so I could climb down. I was refused. Finally, a man climbed up the wall and guided my feet down.
We have night securities posted literally everywhere. Central Cemetry? Schönbrunn? Normally you will find telephone numbers or information where to exit at every exit. Never try to climb anything ... They didn't help you because of supporting an illegal action. Simple as that.
I love your channel, I hope you continue to create content. It is because of your channel my wife and I decided to take a trip to Vienna and we are now moving to Vienna. So thank you! 🎉
Cash is also needed for restrooms. Carry change. They cost .50 to 1 euro. You also need cash for tips in restaurants. You don't want to add it to your cc bill. Waiter may not get it. Public transportation is great. I found a day pass cheaper online than at a kiosk but for some reason, I couldn't complete the transaction. If you get a paper ticket pass, make sure you validate before you use it. Sundays are so serious here, malls are closed. Purchase popular palace and museum tickets a day or two before you go and not on the day of. I found out the hard way they sell out fast. I was in vienna in April, hardly major tourist month.
The shoes tip is true for many cities in Europe. Always wear comfortable walking shoes. And in most cities in Europe, public transport is easier and cheaper than hiring a car. I wouldn't consider driving into the centre of my local city of Leeds, let alone any of the larger cities. My tip for Vienna would be that when you visit Schönbrunn, after you've done the tour, walk up the hill behind the palace. The views are fantastic.

As a native Viennese I am always irritated about the huge queues in front of the heavily advertised places like Restaurant Figlmüller or Cafe Central. While I can understand that Cafe Central might be worth visiting for its architectural beauty neither Figlmüller nor Cafe Central are worth visiting for their outstanding food quality. There are several places where you can get much better Wiener Schnitzel or typical Viennese deserts. Personally I would not wait 30 minutes in a queue just to be processed quickly as one of several hundred guests. Unfortunately after Covid and due to lack of personnel we have experienced a huge increase in prices and reduction in quality in many famous places which once were solid addresses to go to. Unfortunate examples are Cafe Fraunhuber, Cafe Diglas and Cafe Landtmann (just my personal opinion). Like in every city it is difficult for tourists to find good restaurants and Cafes. I can only say so much: Never trust Tripadvisor, don't limit yourself to the Inner City (it begins to suffer from overtourism) and ask some locals. We are not as unfriendly as sometimes described.
Where would you recommend going? I was planning to go to Figlmüller but luckily saw your comment. Could you recommend a local restaurant for Wiener Schnitzel ? I’d appreciate your suggestions

Thanks for the helpful tips. We are now one of your subscribers. My husband and I will be visiting Vienna, soon and your videos help us a lot. By the way, is it better to purchase the Vienna City Card online in advance or at the Train Station when we arrive in Vienna? Hope to hear from you. Thank you.
Thanks for your nice words 🙏🏽 if you have a mobile plan when visiting Vienna then definitely buy it online! Then you have it always in your ivie app - which is overall also a great and informative app.
Arrived at Vienna airport around 6am. Found my way to the railway station. No staff present to sell me a train ticket to the city. Needed to make a payment at the ticket machine to get a ticket. When I board the train the first OBB staff I see are the ticket inspecters setting up for a fine. Luckily I had worked out how to arm myself with a ticket. Great welcome to your country. Can you still smell sewerage in the city centre right beside the footpath "cafes"?. Figmullers was memorable but they crammed me in on the end of a group table as I was by myself.
Figlmuller is known for their Schnitzel, but their service is the worst. There are many other restaurants which are cheaper, more friendly and tastes the same
well, if one wants to enjoy super nice skyline of Vienna without paying a single extra penny (besides the daily/weekly ticket), then one of my personal faves is taking a tram to the terminus at Nussdorf, then taking one of couple possible routes up to Kahlenberg - either by following the street or, when the weather is dry, you can do some challenging climb through the vineyards... either way, you get a view of the skyline that even the one you mentioned cant really compare, as you are getting near the very top of Vienna :D Habsburgswarte at Hermannskogel is allegedly great too, as it sits atop the highest hill in Vienna, but that one is only open in good weather... which unfortunately I was unlucky for, since right when I got there it started raining massively... and me, an unaware fool, took the other way down... down one of the steepest descents in Vienna, 40% of slippery goodness at times... I nearly s*** myself in there... and once I got to the bottom, a sign saying "Steep incline" in German greeted me there :D I mean, really? such a sick sense of humor :D
Sounds like a rainy adventure that you will be able to tell your grandkids one day, Miroslaw. You mentioned Kahlenberg, which brings up a particular memory from 1971 when I was a student in Vienna. I remember walking up a wide and well traveled path up to Kahlenberg from the base where the bus left me off. I remember it being a weekend, sunny nice weather, and many many people were walking up that path to the Kahlenberg summit. There were even people with disabilities that I assumed might have been from WWII (but I have no idea). But I do remember thinking that the Austrians loved being outdoors in nature and enjoying their walks. Thanks for sharing your story, Miroslaw.
@@johnmaryn4497 oh me and rain this year in Vienna lol... and my knack for choosing weird and a bit dangerous routes sometimes :D ... like one day when I walked on the side of the road from Neuwaldegg to Hutteldorf, simply cos it was the most direct route (and a preferred one since I wasnt particularly well equipped for possible mud in the forest through which the road cut) or my epic journey from Neuwaldegg via Exelberg and pretty much following Tullner Strasse, which is a winding road that goes like... really upwards... and it kept creeping uphill until a short distance from Koenigstetten, when the forest opened, oooh man the view :))) ... then a loooong descent towards the small town and onwards to Tulln which to my susprise had a fighter jet at the entry point to the town (surprising cos it is sometimes called Blumenstadt or Gartenstadt because of so many flowers/gardens everywhere) - but then, there is a nearby airfield and an Austrian army base near there, so maybe not that surprising :) ok, got a bit carried away :) anyway, this year I got to know Vienna pretty well, every single "Bezirk", and now pretty much just trying new routes anywhere... now just to get a job and some accomodation later :D
@@RazielKainus I checked out some of your Austrian locations on Google Earth. So beautiful when you get in the forests outside of Vienna. However, be safe. I personally would not go off the normal paths because I would be afraid of getting lost. It is nice that you like to explore. Just don’t go down muddy paths in the middle of a forest. :-). Interestingly, I kept a paper journal of that special year in Vienna (my only journal). I’m glad that I did because it helps to remember what I did. If you are going on special travels - I don’t know, keep a paper journal and write some notes in it. Of course, with phones today, take plenty of photos. Besides Kahlenberg my only other experience in the Vienna Woods was hiking on some paths. However, I have no idea where I was on these paths. When I was in Vienna in 1971 (21 yrs old), I mostly studied in school and went to a lot of operas and concerts (standing room was affordable). All of this is why it was an amazing year. Keep a journal. Take photos. And good luck in finding a job and place to stay. I lived with an elderly hausfrau - sharing a room in her apartment - the school set it up. And it was so close to the Ringstrasse that I could go to those concerts. However, I’ve been told that today, living in those close districts today is very expensive and airBnbs are crazy expensive. I guess I was lucky. Best of luck to you.
@@johnmaryn4497 I never use unmarked paths :) ... I use my general sense of direction, Google Maps or maps in Strava, and when necessary, also a compass... and yeah, sometimes it means going at the side of the road when that path is most effective :) ... of course I keep safe even then :) besides Viennese journeys my craziest "hike" was from Bratislava-Petrzalka to Vienna by foot :D ... took me like 18hrs lol
Thankyou for the video. Im planning my visit to Vienna in mid-March and would appreciate it if you could provide information on the expected temperature during that period. This will help me pack appropriately for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Thank you.

@@danielsykora2392, we did meet a lot of unfriendly and very rude people. Locals. That was very disappointing, surprising and would ruin your day. Vienna is stunningly beautiful but I am not looking forward to visiting again.
I agree about a shoes tip.But aslo pay attention, the bottom of the shoes to be fat,the sneakers are good solution.Once I had my most comfortable Italian leather shoes but I felt every stone under my feet. The next morning I bought a sneakers only because of that.
You should see Taiwan. Many urban property owners have tile pavement between their shop fronts and the road. You can't believe how slippery it is during the frequent rains.
Technically, you could, but it's not very common practice. Some restaurants might charge a small fee, but if it's listed on the menu, then it's acceptable. However, if it's not on the menu, it's generally not encouraged by the restaurant. Keep in mind that even serving a glass of tap water requires providing a clean glass and service, which does incur a cost for the restaurant. You can always request a glass of water with your order. In Vienna, it's very common to receive a glass of water with your coffee, and in that case, it's provided free of charge.
0:26 Really, thousends of tourists are visiting vienna every year??? That’s amazing, i mean, thats nothing compared to other cities who get visited by millions of tourists every year but hey, vienna is only a small town with 20.000 residents.
Not so long ago, it wasn’t just Sundays! When I first came to Vienna, 22 years ago, Nothing was open on Sundays, other than bars, cafes and a couple of supermarkets at the Prater.Until about 15 years ago, supermarkets were closed at 6pm and on Saturday afternoons (except for the Prater and the airport, but the airport is a bit far to go for milk and bread!). Much to many people’s horror, there is now talk of opening shops on Sunday! Even the non-religious appreciate the one day in the week when everything slows a bit. I used to live in Oxford, which has opened up on Sundays for the last 30 years or so, which has made Sundays one of the most crowded days in the city centre. Oxford has as many tourists as Vienna, but is 10% the size, but when you add lots of shoppers, it gets too much! Don’t open on Sundays, Vienna, please!
"What we always recommend to tourists is to make sure you check for restarant discounts" As an Austrian i would not recommend this. Vienna is one of the safest cittis in the world. Explore yourself. You get a better food for lower prices. You have Time to enjoy and talk to locals an other tourists.
@@meilstone There is no "too generous" for a good service..and 2,50 isn´t even much....12,50 to 13 is an insult, and to 14 is extremely stingy. But just do what you do, but don´t tell other people they have be as gruesome as like you
@@KhyatiPuria this is not true! Most of the restaurants have a place to save the tips and each week, day, or month it is shared between the stuff. Don’t invent your own truth please.
@@MrWalter2202 I completely agree, but only if you tip with cash. In Austria, we don't have a well-established system for adding tips directly on the card terminal. So, if you round up the bill from 13.80 to 15.00 and pay with your card, the 1.20 difference is not directly considered as a tip. Instead, it becomes part of the restaurant's revenue. The transaction is only recognized as a tip if you explicitly select a tip amount on the card terminal. There is a reason why waiters in Austria appreciate tips in cash instead of card transactions.
Hi, very nice to watch your video. I love vienna too!❤ Right, Austrians actually preffer cash but most of the time one could actualy tip the waiter via card. Just tell the sum/total amount (bill+tip) that one wish to give. 😉

We are open to June, July and August but we surely don't want to caught up in the rains or too much heat either. Eagerly awaiting your reply so that we can begin planning our trip 😃
@@KhyatiPuria last question... Will it be cloudy and gloomy too? In one video that I saw from someone who travelled in September the skies were absolutely grey. We certainly don't want that situation.

Its just me, but I was in Vienna couple day ago for one weak. I would gave my travel to Vienna solid 5. But this is my choice. I like active entertainment. Meeting people, having crazy nights, dances, bars. Vienna for me wasn't my city. I don't like museums, don't like all that historic stuff and for me it was bit too expensive. But overall Vienna is a beautiful city with friendly and humble people 😊
Aw yea I’m looking to visit it this year but same I live to party and go to nice bars and cafes. Could you recommend another good city for that? I’ve done paris which I loved.
Hi I will ber goin to Vienna next week. I will be bringing some cash but I do not have any coins so in this case can how can I get the luggage trolleys?
No that’s not true what you’re saying, CAT is not a scam. It’s €12 and you have a very comfortable and quick ride to the city centre.. der ÖBB ist over Crowded , you have to stand and it takes 10 minutes longer than CAT
CAT worked fine for our trip into the city center 2 weeks ago, but we regretted buying a round-trip ticket because the day we needed to return to the airport, the CAT was canceled due to technical problems. Fortunately, we had enough time to take an S-train nearby and we didn’t have to stand on the train (midday on a Friday). Trying to get a refund on the CAT website failed due to technical problems with their contact form. Avoid the CAT round trip ticket. . BTW, the WienMobil app works great for buying public transportation tickets. We bought train and tram tickets and even rented a bike with it (WienMobil Rad).
Go to Hauptbahnhof and the City is just 10 min away, the Schloss Belvedere just opposite..its so much cheaper,I always take the train!!By SBahn you get to the same place like the CAT ,too cheaper...and its my hometown...go to Trzesniewsky for great little open sandwiches and great coffee..enjoy
it is usually easier and more convenient to use Westbahn or ÖBB (train) rather than renting a car. If you wanna explore the surroundings of Salzburg - like Hallstatt or Salzkammergut - then you might want to consider renting a car. But not mandatory
Yes, seconded. Take the train from Vienna to Salzburg, spend time sightseeing in Salzburg and only rent a car locally when exploring the countryside around Salzburg.

I am going to Vienna next week! I can’t wait!!!! Thank you for this video!! Very helpful!!
Have fun! 🤩
Excellent tips, thank you.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you so much for this video. I am planning to visit Vienna on October. This video helps a lot. More videos please!
Appreciate it! Feel free to watch our latest videos and let us know in case you’re missing any specific details!
Thank you for sharing this. One question - The weekly pass you mentioned, where can one get it? The one I saw online was more expensive than this one.
I would recommend to download the WienMobil app. You can directly purchase the weekly pass there and store it on your phone (within the app).
Thank you for your valuable advice. It's good to know before visiting Vienna.
@@KhyatiPuria Thank you for the advice.
Great video. Thanks 🫶
Adorei. Você acha que vale a pena um bate e volta de Viena a Hallsttat e até a Abadia de Admont?
Very useful tips. Thank you!

Im from Vienna go to reumannplatz or keplerplatz Beautiful place or go to Handelskai
Thank you for info. It is very useful.

Where do you buy the passes for public transportation? How much do they cost?
Arrived at Vienna airport around 6am. Found my way to the railway station. No staff present to sell me a train ticket to the city. Needed to make a payment at the ticket machine to get a ticket. When I board the train the first OBB staff I see are the ticket inspecters setting up for a fine. Luckily I had worked out how to arm myself with a ticket. Great welcome to your country. Can you still smell sewerage in the city centre right beside the footpath "cafes"?. Figmullers was memorable but they crammed me in on the end of a group table as I was by myself.
Glad you avoided the fine 👍🏽
Figlmuller is known for their Schnitzel, but their service is the worst. There are many other restaurants which are cheaper, more friendly and tastes the same
If you are traveling, find out beforehand. There are ticket machines everywhere. Welcome to the year 2023.
well, if one wants to enjoy super nice skyline of Vienna without paying a single extra penny (besides the daily/weekly ticket), then one of my personal faves is taking a tram to the terminus at Nussdorf, then taking one of couple possible routes up to Kahlenberg - either by following the street or, when the weather is dry, you can do some challenging climb through the vineyards... either way, you get a view of the skyline that even the one you mentioned cant really compare, as you are getting near the very top of Vienna :D
Habsburgswarte at Hermannskogel is allegedly great too, as it sits atop the highest hill in Vienna, but that one is only open in good weather... which unfortunately I was unlucky for, since right when I got there it started raining massively... and me, an unaware fool, took the other way down... down one of the steepest descents in Vienna, 40% of slippery goodness at times...
@@johnmaryn4497 oh me and rain this year in Vienna lol... and my knack for choosing weird and a bit dangerous routes sometimes :D ... like one day when I walked on the side of the road from Neuwaldegg to Hutteldorf, simply cos it was the most direct route (and a preferred one since I wasnt particularly well equipped for possible mud in the forest through which the road cut)
or my epic journey from Neuwaldegg via Exelberg and pretty much following Tullner Strasse, which is a winding road that goes like... really upwards... and it kept creeping uphill until a short distance from Koenigstetten, when the forest opened, oooh man the view :))) ... then a loooong descent towards the small town and onwards to Tulln
which to my susprise had a fighter jet at the entry point to the town (surprising cos it is sometimes called Blumenstadt or Gartenstadt because of so many flowers/gardens everywhere) - but then, there is a nearby airfield and an Austrian army base near there, so maybe not that surprising :)
ok, got a bit carried away :) anyway, this year I got to know Vienna pretty well, every single "Bezirk", and now pretty much just trying new routes anywhere... now just to get a job and some accomodation later :D
I use my general sense of direction, Google Maps or maps in Strava, and when necessary, also a compass... and yeah, sometimes it means going at the side of the road when that path is most effective :) ... of course I keep safe even then :)
besides Viennese journeys my craziest "hike" was from Bratislava-Petrzalka to Vienna by foot :D ... took me like 18hrs lol
@@RazielKainus wow, an 18 hr hike from Bratislava is amazing.
Hello there! I was wondering where the tacos are from at 7:25 :)
Great video, thanks for the tips!
Thank you soooo much for this video! It is super helpful!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thankyou for the video. Im planning my visit to Vienna in mid-March and would appreciate it if you could provide information on the expected temperature during that period. This will help me pack appropriately for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Thank you.
Expect wet and windy weather conditions. There is normally no snow or ice in March. So dress like an onion :) many layers which can be reduced if necessary.
@@KhyatiPuria, we plan to visit in the 4th week of April. What should we expect in terms of weather? Appreciate your advise, thank you!
Expect too much people, unfriendly people, trash and unclean streets , many Things else wich arent ok here transportation system... as an example: dont never use the 11 or U1 at reumannplatz or the Bus and elsewhere is almost the same theyre waiting to fill up buses and trains as much as possible have fun in summer..... this vienna isnt beautiful May IT was and May they try to sell IT as gorgeous but IT isnt i live here for over 31 years
@@danielsykora2392, we did meet a lot of unfriendly and very rude people. Locals. That was very disappointing, surprising and would ruin your day. Vienna is stunningly beautiful but I am not looking forward to visiting again.
Greetings from Wienerwald, the woods western from Vienna ❤🇦🇹❤️
I agree about a shoes tip.But aslo pay attention, the bottom of the shoes to be fat,the sneakers are good solution.Once I had my most comfortable Italian leather shoes but I felt every stone under my feet. The next morning I bought a sneakers only because of that.
You should see Taiwan. Many urban property owners have tile pavement between their shop fronts and the road. You can't believe how slippery it is during the frequent rains.
Yep agree...saw it very often in Asia.
Nice video! Thank you very much 🙏👍
Thanks for watching!
good tips , keep it up
Hello and thank you so much for theese tips! About tap water, can we also ask for it in any restaurants?
Danke für den tip mit dem Südturm. Bin Ende April Anfang Mai in Wien.
Viel Spaß 👋🏽
@@KhyatiPuria Danke oder wie die Briten sagen cheers
heyy i appreciate you for video. I have flight to Vienna in this September. what about the weather in Austria on September?
Informative 👍🏼
Happy that you got some value out of the video 🙏🏽
I love this sundays when almost all is closed..
it's definitely very peaceful and allows you to observe the architectural beauty of Vienna
Great video. I am travelling last week of Oct. will I be able to manage with English?
You will do fine :)
"What we always recommend to tourists is to make sure you check for restarant discounts" As an Austrian i would not recommend this. Vienna is one of the safest cittis in the world. Explore yourself. You get a better food for lower prices. You have Time to enjoy and talk to locals an other tourists.
Fair point...might require some planning but you might find also good food for lower prices without looking for discounts.
You can tip with card! You hear: Waiter/waitress: that makes 12,50 and you say: "make it 15 ... easy.
In most cases, you're tipping the restaurant owner and not the staff...unfortunately
That's too generous! You can make it 13 or 14, that's way enough
@@meilstone There is no "too generous" for a good service..and 2,50 isn´t even much....12,50 to 13 is an insult, and to 14 is extremely stingy.
You are just a very bad customer, that´s all...and I bet you are even proud of it....otherwise you wouldn´t dare to write such a nasty comment.
Tolle Zusammenfassung, alle Punkte sind richtig. Liebe Grüße.
Vielen dank
Great and thank u!!
Hi, very nice to watch your video. I love vienna too!❤ Right, Austrians actually preffer cash but most of the time one could actualy tip the waiter via card. Just tell the sum/total amount (bill+tip) that one wish to give. 😉
Any reccomandations from locals for a good snitzel and strudl? Around the central area Ring Straße and Stadpark?
We recently made a video on that. The second spot is very close to Stadtpark.

Hi, please suggest, where should I book my hotels in Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck . I will be using public transport to travel Austria .
I don't have so much experience in Salzburg and Innsbruck but in Vienna, we can highly recommend the Bassena hotel. Well priced and great location with amazing connections to Vienna city center.

Hey guys! Great channel. Really liked some of your tips.
We are planning to travel to Austria soon for the summers with our 8 month old daughter. Can you help us pick the best month weather wise? We are open to June, July and August but we surely don't want to caught up in the rains or too much heat either.
Eagerly awaiting your reply so that we can begin planning our trip 😃
Sounds great! If I would have to pick then definitely June! Less crowded and higher probability of a more moderate weather!
@@KhyatiPuria Thanks so much for your reply 😀
Can you let me know how the weather is in August? We might have better holidays then to plan the trip
@@DoctorUpasananormally hot and humid
@@KhyatiPuria last question... Will it be cloudy and gloomy too? In one video that I saw from someone who travelled in September the skies were absolutely grey. We certainly don't want that situation.
Can you tell me if Vienna does fireworks on New Year’s Eve? I will be there Dec 31 2024 and wondering if they have them and where to see them! Thank you :)
Yes we do…one of the most popular and impressive ones is at Riesenradplatz. Its music synched
@@KhyatiPuria Thank you!!
If I think of Bars and Cafes, the first city that comes to my mind is Prague 😍
like always, you need to know where to go. You can do all that in Vienna.
You better go to Berlin!I cant get enough from all the history around in Vienna,i was visiting more or less every church!
@@PastaSauce.no better place for party than Belgrade

I'm pretty sure you will find a stall to exchange it :)

I spent a week in Vienna no cash no problem 2 years ago
You can easily tip with your card…. Many restaurants collect the tips and share it
Don't take the CAT - City Airport Train, it's a scam just take a regular train.
No that’s not true what you’re saying, CAT is not a scam. It’s €12 and you have a very comfortable and quick ride to the city centre.. der ÖBB ist over Crowded , you have to stand and it takes 10 minutes longer than CAT
Into the city i agree don’t take the CAT. Getting to your flight back you can save yourself a lot of trouble by taking the CAT
How would you recommend someone take a trip to Salzburg for a couple nights? Public transport or rent a car?
it is usually easier and more convenient to use Westbahn or ÖBB (train) rather than renting a car.
Visit Salzburg in the last week of September, especially on Sunday - to enjoy Oktoberfest
