My wife recently asked me (probably after rewatching one of your videos for the “billionth time”) “Is Mr Chickadee your hero?” and I would have to unashamedly say “Yes, yes he is” 😎👍👍👍
I have enough skill and experience to recognize real skill and experience at work. I also love the ongoing format of no voiceover: the work explains itself. That is more than sufficient.
@@thomasarussellsr I tried that but then I spent all my time reading and none enjoying a craftsman in his element. I'm pretty familiar with this sort of work and I truly appreciate the inclusion of the information, especially for folks who may not be familiar with what's going on, but for me it's about watching good work done well.
When I was about 9, I broke my neighbor's window. My loving dad took it off, and had me replace the pane - exactly as you have done here. Thank you for showing us how you did this. It brought back some damn good memories of me not getting a licking for being an idiot.
Absolutely that was just as professional as anything I've ever seen the opening scene and spent just the right amount of time on each object freaking amazing
my happy place. It is so good to watch a master of his craft just work. No music and just the sound of a sharp tool slicing wood. All filmed to perfection.
It feel like an eternity since you last posed! Thanks for blessing us with such wonderful videos!! I hope one day i will be able to craft beutifull things like you!
Oh My Gosh your work is imaculate. It is a preasure to watch you work. What a gift you have indeed. I love how your home is coming together after all these years of watching you you land is a home now. the value of you work will last for centeries. Beautiful!. sending love from Australia.
I worked on high rides installing curtain wall, double and triple pane glass for 20 years.. I watched my grandfather many years ago make the sashes and frames then putty glaze, same as you did, it is indeed a lost art of actual window glazing. I agree, You only need to create a neutral barrier between the two glass as you also did to prevent the windows from frosting up in the winter months. Thanks Mr. C for bringing back some fond memories, good job.👍👍
The push screwdriver. I haven't seen one of those in decades. They always fascinated me as a child. i also loved how you checked for sharpness. That brought a smile.
Umm, he did use screws, but only for the hinges. The joinery is age old woodworking that most men knew from the 1950s on back, to take care of their own homes. He is just keeping the crafts alive. Both of my grandfathers glazed their own windows, and showed me, my brother, and my cousins all how to do it. And I am only 50 myself.
Putty was always molded in the hands using linseed oil for consistency it was worked in the palms and then extruded using thumb and forefinger as a bead, I started my glazier apprenticeship in 1973 and the guys I worked with then, could use both hands simultaneously to produce a bead up and down and across, it would have taken them about 20 seconds to sort those windows out, a putty knife was used to finish and then a quick smear of linseed oil to assist in slowing down the curing process. In those day 85% of our glazing was with wooden frames. Maybe now that figure has dropped to 10%. Love your work though and stay safe from this terrible pandemic.
I would only ever claim to dabble in many crafts, this being one. What man has the time to master all? Many though can be done by a man, to help his home along, even if its not perfect, it can suffice.
Yes, true glazing was a formed and placed putty "snake" pressed in with the hands and fingers then "glazed" with and oil and knife. But this method was taken over from a putty knife and tub of putty later on in time. Traditional rolled and placed putty is more traditional, but both work. Also too, traditional plumbers putty was rolled into a snake and placed around a drain hole before a drain manifold was placed into the hole and assembled into the sink and screwed together squishing the putty togther then the excess knifed away to form the seal between the sink and drain. Now it is more often squeezed from a caulking tube or a preformed rubber or neopreen seal. Both work, but there was more craft involved in the former, old school way of doing things.
Woohooo! Finally something I’m as good at as you. 🙂. My dad taught me to glaze windows when I was a kid. He made himself a heater, I think out of toaster parts, to melt the old putty. It was triangular, to get into the corners. Having 4 kids in a small place made that skill pretty useful.
Great video as usual Josh. I love to watch you work showing us your patience and attention to detail. Free handing bevel with a draw knife is beautiful. Thanks for the treat this morning. Goes well with a cup of coffee and a breeze on the front porch.
A very well-made video, starting with quality content, excellent videography, especially the close up shots and the absence of repetitive public domain music.
Awesome windows! Windows that swing out from the building can catch much more breeze for natural air flow. Terrific! I'm so happy to see an example of homemade double pane!
It's been a while and it's amazing to see how much garden you've created round the various buildings. Still one of my absolute favourite RUclips channels. Thanks.
Really nice seeing someone do a proper glazing job. I’ve been watching so-called “experts” not using points, using acrylic caulk instead of glazing compound, nailing quarter round trim pieces in to hold the glass-the works. Thanks for keeping up standards!
And that my friends is why it's called window glazing and still to this day glass guys are called glaziers. It's a skilled craft. A very very skilled craft.
Reminds me of hand painting a three story Victorian years ago (three coats of oil based paint... With a brush. Took forever but looked amazing). All those windows were hand scraped, repaired, and the putty replaced, before painting. It's one of those dirty, annoying jobs with very satisfying results. Looks really nice!
So this is only the 3rd video of his I had the subtitles on for. I thought it was some sort of ASMR and still enjoyed his videos but now they are even better haha.
Love it, very cool last shot! I always have to watch twice because I get to the end and realize I forgot to turn on CC ha. Well done my friend, as usual.
I recently started reading The Timeless Way of Building, and it talks about how all things have an unnameable quality of life. And to recognize the patterns and practices that brought that building to be give it the character that makes it alive. And I think we can all confidently say your timeless building is alive
Great work! I've built a pair of similar double windows for my log sauna. They came out nice, but not this nice. The only difference was that I was told by the "old masters" to put a bead of the chalk paste between the wood and the window glass. And another tip: some birds might like to eat the paste due to the linseed oil. If that is a problem, mix a small amount of white pepper into the paste.
You're home place is absolutely beautiful ! The quiet precision with which you work is always a pleasure to see. I always wait patiently and you always deliver a fine video. Peace and good health to you and your family!
Beautiful pictures ascaleays. It is amazing to see how far You have got from those early movies where you built your workshop in the forest. A lot of work and skill have gone into all this. Thank you for letting us parttake in thus journey. Curious to see what you will build next.
Cordless drill!! Fantastic! The video as a whole is very inspiring and as always a pleasure to watch and to be able to escape from the modern throw away culture the the industrial revolution has sold us! All of your videos are a great wealth of knowledge to us who not only watch them for the amazing job you do but also to learn ways that are slowly being forgotten. Thanks to you and those of us who choose to employ these timeless methods hopefully they will not be lost! Thank you again for doing these!
Fantastic job Josh. Everything looks awesome around there and now you have those windows in to keep the winter out. Thanks for sharing with us, Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋
Beautiful work here. I just finished up,some 6 pane windows. I wish I'd have seen this first. Would have saved me some trial and error as to construction technique. Thanks for sharing.
I caught myself feeling impatient at first. A product of our too fast paced society. Soon, as I drank by coffee, I began to relax and was mesmerized by the rhythm and your utter craftsmanship. Mr. Chickadee, thank you for this gift you have granted me this morning.
I can't even set a plane to that thin a cut, my fingers aren't sensetive enough to feel the blade and my eyes are too bad to see it. Unbelievable work as usual.
Dude, it makes such a difference though! Everything cuts like butter. I dont like taking the time to sharpen all the time, but in terms of both efficiency and enjoyment it pays for itself and then some!
Nice video. The windows look great! 👍🏻 WOW, in the end these are very nice camera settings. The house looks super nice, with the burnt surface protection of the walls and the bright windows. You live very nicely. Nice rest of the week wished. Greetings from Germany.
My wife recently asked me (probably after rewatching one of your videos for the “billionth time”) “Is Mr Chickadee your hero?” and I would have to unashamedly say “Yes, yes he is” 😎👍👍👍

He also has some info in subtitles if you turn on the [CC].

I can’t believe we finally have a new video! Thank goodness!

You seem to have had great dad!
I've enjoyed watching Mr. Chickadee build this structure from start to finish.
Hard to believe you do not have 1,000,000 subscribers... You have little to no peers. God bless.
That final shot looked really slick. Your cinematography is fantastic. Well done 👌
Absolutely that was just as professional as anything I've ever seen the opening scene and spent just the right amount of time on each object freaking amazing
Yes, that stood out a lot to me too!
What a relief. No Festools, overequipped workshops, annoying presentations, or bad music.
It really is a pleasure to watch somebody who's really good at what they do.
my happy place. It is so good to watch a master of his craft just work. No music and just the sound of a sharp tool slicing wood. All filmed to perfection.
Glad you enjoy it!
👍 Danke fürs Hochladen!
👍 Thanks for uploading!
👍 Very good and beautiful, thank you!
👍 Sehr gut und schön, danke!
It feel like an eternity since you last posed! Thanks for blessing us with such wonderful videos!! I hope one day i will be able to craft beutifull things like you!
Still the more relaxing channel on the whole tube. That's all the ASMR i need in my life
Just do what you really want and be for the world. you are a true role model in that sense
Oh My Gosh your work is imaculate. It is a preasure to watch you work. What a gift you have indeed. I love how your home is coming together after all these years of watching you you land is a home now. the value of you work will last for centeries. Beautiful!. sending love from Australia.
I never grow tired of watching your vids. Great work!
The transformation in your property is amazing fella !
7:08 after all the hand prep already done to the workpiece, the confidence to come in and chamfer with a drawknife is just sweet.

Always enjoy when you post! So much inspiration!

Chickadee style construction is my favorite. No cheating by using Powertools or screws.
Umm, he did use screws, but only for the hinges. The joinery is age old woodworking that most men knew from the 1950s on back, to take care of their own homes. He is just keeping the crafts alive. Mrs. Chickadee’s camera and visual story-telling skills are equal to your woodworking skills. Salud!
Best part: 7:10 the crafting of one beautiful chamfer! I love it when razor-sharp tools are used sooooooo well!

This dude is good! Most real on RUclips no one can fuck with Mr Chickadee

I couldn't agree with you more. Especially when you said " "
😆 🤣 🤣 Come on!!
😅
This entire video is art of the highest form.
Your RUclips channel name is sick ! (and dirty) 😉
Wow! Just wow! Thank you for sharing your videos of true craftsmanship.
Your quiet, patient craftsmanship is always a pleasure to watch. Thank you!
This is fantastic. I learn every time I find watch one of your videos. Now I HAVE to make windows! Thank you.
It's been a while and it's amazing to see how much garden you've created round the various buildings. Still one of my absolute favourite RUclips channels. Thanks.
I always look forward to your videos.
Fantastic! ... and ambidextrous I see. All the best master craftsman are. :-) and I have a long way to go yet!
What a craftsman, he makes everything look simple. Thanks again for sharing
So soothing, the crispness of the timber is like biting into a fresh crisp carrot or apple...love your craftsmanship.
When I think of the level of skill and craftsmanship it takes to do all that you do, it just astounds me. Amazing. Just amazing!

Josh, thank you for another great upload. We're missing you!!
Pure art! Both wood working and cinematography.
I agree with the kitties, wide window seats are the way to go.
Nice work Roy Underhill would be proud of your gossamer shavings coming off of your planes !
And that my friends is why it's called window glazing and still to this day glass guys are called glaziers. It's a skilled craft. A very very skilled craft.
Such confidence in every movement, magic to watch, thank you for sharing 🙏

Nicely done sir! A lot of patience is needed but when found it is a true meditation to make such beautiful long lasting windows.
Sublime, as usual ! I learned that bedding putty was first placed in the rabbet then the pane settled into it and then glazer's points and finish.
Ive also heard that, but never done it and never seen the need?
Thank you for taking the time to film and edit these videos, I can't imagine it making your life very easy when you're taking on a project like this
Well done, Mr. Chickadee.

As usual very nice workmanship.
Nice reminder from Mr. Chickadee that I'm a talent less hack.
Oh so many of us....
And that I can't sharpen tools for crap.
My favorite channel and a huge inspiration. Thank you!
Wow ! Ive made windows like this before but that big chamfer u did with a drawknife made them look much more elegant... The best channel in youtube !
Thank you! 😊
Unbelievable skilled woodworking! you must/should be very proud about the results... CONGRATULATIONS
Outstanding as always Brother !! Peace 👍👍💪💪💪💪💪✌✌
Kudos to you and your woodworking skills. How practical, how artistic!

Ah, the sights and sounds of old tools on wood.
So satisfying.
Beautiful work here. I just finished up,some 6 pane windows. I wish I'd have seen this first. Would have saved me some trial and error as to construction technique. Thanks for sharing.
Another fine job my friend!
I love watching a master at work!!!👍🇺🇸
I used to love glazing windows, something satisfying about it 😊👍🇺🇸
The quiet simple pleasures of life. We've let them slip away. Thank you.
Amazing!
The day just got better!
I'm not jealous at all, you have a wonderful talent, I have two left feet. perfect size home.
You are a true craftsman
I caught myself feeling impatient at first. A product of our too fast paced society. Soon, as I drank by coffee, I began to relax and was mesmerized by the rhythm and your utter craftsmanship.
Mr. Chickadee, thank you for this gift you have granted me this morning.
Very easy to do sir, we all have to slow down from time to time. Thank you for the comment.
Me encanta tu trabajo, en especial al usar solo herramientas manuales. Eres todo un maestro de la vieja escuela. Saludos desde Chile.
I can't even set a plane to that thin a cut, my fingers aren't sensetive enough to feel the blade and my eyes are too bad to see it. Unbelievable work as usual.
I'm always in awe of how sharp your tools are. I myself never mastered sharpening hand tools. All of mine are sharpish, lol.
Dude, it makes such a difference though! Everything cuts like butter. I dont like taking the time to sharpen all the time, but in terms of both efficiency and enjoyment it pays for itself and then some!
As usual, a study in great craftsmanship.
Awesome job. I like the addition of footnotes.
Brilliant like always ;)
You have once again presented yourself as one of the foremost master craftsmen that I've ever seen. Beautiful work.
Nice video.
The windows look great! 👍🏻
WOW, in the end these are very nice camera settings.
The house looks super nice, with the burnt surface protection of the walls and the bright windows.
You live very nicely.
Nice rest of the week wished.
Greetings from Germany.
Such pleasing aesthetics 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 And I have both wooden and metal handplanes. It’s just a lovely material to work with.
Awesome video, thank you
You'll be opening a barber shop before long, Mr. C! Shaves: Razor: $15.00, Chisel: $20.00.
You forgot the axe 👀
Oro puro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pure Gold.
I’m in awe like always. Beautiful.
The ahhh moment when the plane shavings are perfect.
Would love a complete framing/making/and installing ALL wooden windows!
