Hasnt so far i enjoy working for prime i dont care about how fast i get places. What i make covers my expenses and still have some for personal spending and have a secure place to leave my car when im on the road
Great training video. Before retirement I worked as a licensed customs broker for over 40 years. A good part of our day was spent dealing with port related trucking issues. We rarely ever got to actually see the pier in action. For new people coming into the business this gives them a great view of what the trucker actually goes through. Thanks

Im a switcher truck driver for a major southern grocery store chain in their distribution center and we have several thousand trailers, it's amazing to me how they keep up with all those containers at the Port. We use container trailers for cardboard trailers at work

Did this for the better part of two years for two diff companies in southern Calif until 2010. Both paid hourly and then went to paying by load and when they did, I never went back after that. Most drayage companies pay by load or percentage of load down here now. You're working around the clock and you're lucky if you make $100 in a day due to all the waiting around in the ports and you have no control whatsoever of what they do or how they do it!
lol. I've been trucking for 10yrs now just started port last week. no one told me jack...it is a little intimidating but, its way easy. just mad cause my company thru me to the wolfs like that. I dont sink i swim. ill be ok.

I will start out by taking my time. Asking the questions that I think are relevent. Then baby step it from there, untill I have. A complete working knowledge of this sector of freight pickup. I will tell you what it's like imagine a hive of bees, worker bees moving around as if there's no Organization no Direction, with people working at the Port that have bad attitudes like unit workers or people to have government jobs along with bad communication skills. When something goes wrong there's no one around to communicate with it's like making a call to your credit card company and you get a robot to solve your problems. Most of the people who work at the Port got their job based on neptunium even the people who run the ports they don't have any sense at all

I do this I don’t wait more then hour for load I call my dispatcher to call them to see where is the box or to change me the load i get pay 150 to drop one empty pick load to the yard 15 min away slow day I do 3 of this

I never ran containers out of Port Newark or Port Elizabeth, but I would pick/up whse ;oads out of there every week. The taffic is crazy & I was lucky cause I was loading our trailer & didn't have to get in those lines too often.. Once I learned my way around the traffic clogs it was pretty easy.
i used to work out of the port of oakland back in the 90s go from the uioion pacific rail yard to k-line it was gravy work going to buy another truck and do it agin

I drive at the ports of Los Angeles and San Pedro . They all suck except the automated ones. Get ready to be stuck in line to get in and exit for about 3 hours total. The other ports in the US are nice n small so easy to get loads
I never said at a port for hours if I feel I'm sitting too long I just call the owner to the company I work for he makes a phone call all the sudden some beeping noise and my can is gone or my can is on me. I guess that's what happens when you work for a person who owns a cargo ship

We have 3 ports around here. I have my TWIC but i just got my CDL and i have no clue what the port's operation is like. I was told you just scan your TWIC and the machine gives you a receipt with what location you'll need to go to
Only some ports do that. Most of the time you pull up to the speak and give them the information your dispatch gave you and they'll tell you the location you need to go in the port or it'll show up on the screen.
What port was this at bud? I've been at the ports in long beach and Los Angeles for a couple years, then worked up in Oakland ports, then out to Savannah Georgia for a bit

Two questions What are the things on the spotter/yard dog yellow trucks roofs ? There is a white pickup truck with a yellow stripe. What is mounted on the roof next to the amber warning light ? I worked in the Intermodal industry for years. Never seen these
port drivers get paid by load not hourly, truckers should unite and ask for hr pay, truck drivers can work 12 to 15 hrs and just make 300 a day, companies dont care about drivers, you can star work at 6am and finish at 10 pm and come back at 7 am, companies dont care how many hrs you put because they dont pay hourly

I do containers in Houston. It used to be horrible but now its gotten better. I can get in out in about 30 minutes

I Frozen I - Detention pay is an hourly wage which begins typically after 1-2 hours of sitting, waiting to be loaded or unloaded.

No you don't connect glad hands to the container, you connect glad hands to the chassis before you arrive at the port

it just comes with experience, every port is different, once you just used to it, you'll know where everything is

Yep, at Knight Transportation they only paying people 58 cent a mile and not hourly on the Local positions and that’s not including that many miles

I hold the port for years you spend too much downtime waiting in there looking for chassis giving you the runaround and they don't pay worth a s***.
I remember my old days when I was a port truck driver in Long Beach I miss those days especially making good money good memories
