I enjoy your videos. Back in the day, it would’ve been nice to have GPS and cellphone and an app for the scales and all the technology. I pulled the 48 foot flatbed and loaded out of the New Orleans port, also Long Beach California sparrow point in Baltimore, Charleston, Houston And others I have forgotten. We did it with a Rand McNally Road Atlas and we stopped at a payphone to get directions. But somehow we managed.
Appreciated you taking us along. Those first-time pickups can be very stressful. Your goal is to get it done without getting yelled at. It's always a good feeling to get it under your belt.
Phew, I really felt like I was shotgun with you for that trip. The anxiety / stress of loading from a new location (especially one that’s very regulated) and then the curve ball of assisting the other Mercer driver (whom I’m sure was so grateful). Get some rest Dan.
Driver, if you ever go to the port in Savannah, GA, do not follow the trucks pulling the containers. There’s two sides, one for the containers and the other side is the break box side where you would be loading with a flatbed or any other type of trailer. Good luck. I love the videos, keep them coming.
After sailing in and out of sketchy ports all over the world, it was when were docked at the Tchoupitoulas St Wharf that the 2nd Mate warned us, before leaving the ship, not to go ashore alone after dark.
Some places are easier to get into than others. I went to a nuclear power plant one time, and they would only let one truck in at a time. I had to drive my truck in between two sets of gates and get out and go into a building, though one door, and take what I had in my pockets out, leave it in there and wait for them to check my truck out. Then go out another door and get in my truck and follow a guy to where I was going to unload. Dump my load and follow the guy back to the gates, go between them, and reverse what I did over to get out of there. Was glad I only had to go there once. Stay safe, and God bless. Dan 🇺🇸
Hi Dan. First time watcher. Would have enjoyed more port action (loading and unloading) and load descriptions. Having said that, nice job getting in and out of an unfamiliar place.
I've been obcessed with semi's since I was a kid. Never been in one but I love these kinds of videos. We are part time RV'ers and I thought towing a 5k lb camper was exhausting...I have so much respect for truckers that do this day in/day out.
This brought back memories (nightmares?) of when I used to go in the ports in New Jersey/New York. I did that for several years, pulling containers and also airfreight out of JFK. You're absolutely right, if you don't know what you're doing, you get eaten alive. But there's a first time for everything! Great video Dan
Thanks for the ride along thru the Port! First time anywhere can be very difficult and I know regular guys like to cause hell if you don’t know the pattern. Stay safe Dan.
Dan Dan the professional flat deck man. I use to hate going to the ports. It didn’t matter where the port was. It’s all a big union so a lot of the port employees are not the nicest to deal with. Plus there is so many different sections to the port and so many different warehouses. I was getting on edge just watching your video. Know wonder your tired you tarpped two loads. I hope the other driver learned something. Thanks for posting Dan. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails to you, D..
Dan, I think you were being MORE than kind when you talked about the individual 😵💫 who wouldn’t shift the load for you. I’m thinking your thoughts were more than you wanted to record 😊
Life of a flatbed like you say it’s confusing at times going to ports, I got kicked out in Long Beach CA my entry pass wasn’t paid yet lol had to go in then out and wait to go in with limited parking
Any port you go to sucks, some rank higher than others but they all suck. I understand stand your frustration and being wore out, tomorrow will be a better day
what i hated most was picking up a load then having to hit a government scales before i could even weigh my load, to make sure i was good. most times i passed and got to the nearest ts to cat my load, just for my mind sent.
I parked in the lot to walk over to the building to check in just as you were going to get loaded…was wondering what you were getting loaded with. That place is always best to get there after the first morning rush of the container trucks coming in, mad house for sure. The Shell Station TS in La Place is definitely the go to truck stop heading west, the Pilot parking lot is so run down currently it is best to just stay clear of that one. Stay Safe.
60 years old 26 years old trucking I had a major stroke on 44 years old but I’m in all the port LA Houston Seattle they all not very good but you have to learn. I think the role do you dude keep trucking man.
Great ride along looking forward to the new Dorsey trailer. I get a big kick out of Bailey keeping watch over everything. I've always cage trained it becomes there safe quiet personal space.
Next time, full speed 360 like a Fast n Furious movie. The container drops from the crane and then you miraculously catch it with the flat bed then roar outta the port amid a hail of gunshots. That's how 🤔 I always imagined new Orleans anyway.
I've got it you are going into the dog smuggling business, I once had to go through the wonderful port near Oakland and stayed lost until I found the building I wanted, it was fun as I seemed to be the only one that was lost, and kept getting in the way of everyone else.
I deliver to many different military bases often and so far as long as I have the star on my ID it works for two forms of ID, some brokers say you need to bring birth certificate but you don’t if you have that star
Why did Baily have to go into her kennel? Was there some restriction at the Port? Your videos are so enjoyable-- I'm not a trucker, but your patience, driving skills and professionalism are awesome. Thank you.
WOW Ya can't be in a hurry, it seems. There's always someone in the way, apparently. Nobody listens. "The Life of an Owner Operator Flatbed Truck Driver". Hang in there, thanks for taking us along.
Quick question…if a shipper loads a truck overweight and there is no access to a scale at load site. Before the truck driver can get to a scale he is stopped by authorities and found to be overweight…who is responsible??
Someone told me if you check in at an airport and have a current TWIC card you can jump past the normie line and go to the fast check-in line, because you've already been vetted to get the TWIC. FWIW
Safe Travels. Love❤❤❤❤ Miss Bailey. Give her a hug, smooches, & scratches behind each ear. A +1 Positive is you didn’t get shot while in Downtown ‘Nawlins.
Hey Dan, I know this might be an odd/silly question but, I always thought that you’re only allowed to haul 12k on your steers… how did you manage to stay legal at 12.8k? Thanks in advance.
Well as you can see how plainly easy it is to enter that port lmao, you would be absolutely shocked if I told ya what goes on in and out of there lol, my father is a cop and he's shocked on the stuff that's over looked let's just say lmao, notice u was able to just roll thru not much of a check in lol, this is as far as I will say with this but lots of employees there are in on things
Looking good Dan Little Bailey thinking this is bullshitt dad 😂😂 For sure you can really get messed up in them places , Definitely you have to have the twit card double ID all kinds of bullshitt , Good for you Dan , I don't mind helping if I think They appreciate and listen to me and learn how to do something , I never knew having that long of wheelbase would sling that much weight up on the steer be safe out there take care yourselve Dan

I recognized the thumbnail... haven't been there in 20 years.
Appreciated you taking us along. Those first-time pickups can be very stressful. Your goal is to get it done without getting yelled at. It's always a good feeling to get it under your belt.
Dan, You did it safely. And that's all that matters. PS Bailey, stop interrupting Daddy when he's really busy or no treats!
Don't bring s doggie with you if can't handle it
Sea
Bailey keeps a watch on everything , HA !!!
Phew, I really felt like I was shotgun with you for that trip. The anxiety / stress of loading from a new location (especially one that’s very regulated) and then the curve ball of assisting the other Mercer driver (whom I’m sure was so grateful). Get some rest Dan.

Stay safe Dan! Bailey needs a treat.
Thanks for the video outlining what Drivers go through to get loaded. Travel safe!!!
I can tell you, as a corporate pilot we go there a lot. I hate driving a rental car there. God Bless you my man. Also have dogs too.....
That was a trip down memory lane going in the port with you last time I loaded there was back in the late 80s
After sailing in and out of sketchy ports all over the world, it was when were docked at the Tchoupitoulas St Wharf that the 2nd Mate warned us, before leaving the ship, not to go ashore alone after dark.
Tarping 2 loads back to back? That'd wear me the heck out too! Nice work!

Hey Dan, good to see you again. Be safe.
I lived down south for 13 years. Driving down there absolutely wears me out

I’m surprised you were able to put out the port part of the video! I was told we could film or take pictures…🤷🏼♂️GOD bless you Sir!!! 💯🫶🏼🇺🇸🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I’ve loaded at lots of Ports,New Orleans was one of the busiest.
That's a stressful day.

You guys have a wonderful week
Wow what a day. You & Bailey get some rest. Great video. Prayers for you both.
Dan, I think you were being MORE than kind when you talked about the individual 😵💫 who wouldn’t shift the load for you. I’m thinking your thoughts were more than you wanted to record 😊
That brought back some memories. Not good ones either. lol I really didn’t like going there.
Life of a flatbed like you say it’s confusing at times going to ports, I got kicked out in Long Beach CA my entry pass wasn’t paid yet lol had to go in then out and wait to go in with limited parking
Worked for a flatbed company late 70's early 80's and we had a dispatch in New Orleans, Drove a taxi and was his office
Nice. No hiccups.
Any port you go to sucks, some rank higher than others but they all suck. I understand stand your frustration and being wore out, tomorrow will be a better day
Thanks for sharing your experiences Dan but more importantly look after yourself buddy. 🫶 🇮🇪

Used to go into Port of Galveston even had my twic card, always hated it - some of the toughest backing I ever did.
TWIC are for loading and unloading anywhere near water ways.Expensive but you have to have it
A shaggy dog Drew Carey!!
Gee, no time to show the load ! Anyway get a good night sleep, an Thanks, Jim from New Bedford, MA.
I had a TWIC for 5yrs but my employer paid for it. If I’m not mistaken, they’re only good for 5yrs at a time.
Stay safe brother from the imperial county California 👍🇺🇲
No problem Dan those ports are a pain in the ass lol
60 years old 26 years old trucking I had a major stroke on 44 years old but I’m in all the port LA Houston Seattle they all not very good but you have to learn. I think the role do you dude keep trucking man.
Safe Travels Dan.🇺🇲
🚛💨💨💨💨
I picked up at the same location at the port today.
Truck Safe
Great ride along looking forward to the new Dorsey trailer. I get a big kick out of Bailey keeping watch over everything. I've always cage trained it becomes there safe quiet personal space.
Interesting opening
Next time, full speed 360 like a Fast n Furious movie. The container drops from the crane and then you miraculously catch it with the flat bed then roar outta the port amid a hail of gunshots. That's how 🤔 I always imagined new Orleans anyway.
Been while since I been there , I had to buy safety vest and hard hat
Very interesting and informative. Man the things you have to deal with as a driver. Stay safe and thanks!
Rest up. We consumers appreciate those who move the freight!!!
Wow, looks like you had a tough drive on that one, good job.
Hey Brother
I'm new to Your Channel.Great View.

Ports are Crazy Busy. I’m Amazed Containers somehow get Loaded on the Correct Ship. 🤔
Big place Dan.
I deliver to many different military bases often and so far as long as I have the star on my ID it works for two forms of ID, some brokers say you need to bring birth certificate but you don’t if you have that star
Ports are not always easy too get around.
Thanks Dan stay safe 🌵🇬🇧👍

Good job driving down there.. stay safe out there 🙏🙏🙏🙏😊enjoy your videos..
Thanks
hang tough dan!
Another good one Dan 👍
If ya don't have a twic card at some ports they charge 50 to 100 dollars to get in and out..
Must have missed something Dan, what were you loading Memory says steel coils??
Quick question…if a shipper loads a truck overweight and there is no access to a scale at load site. Before the truck driver can get to a scale he is stopped by authorities and found to be overweight…who is responsible??
You are OK as long as you are headed to the nearest scale.
Did i miss something i didni see what the hell u loaded other than diving around the port
Someone told me if you check in at an airport and have a current TWIC card you can jump past the normie line and go to the fast check-in line, because you've already been vetted to get the TWIC. FWIW
Twic Card…..better to have and not need than to need and not have.
Yea, the port of New of New Orleans barely looks at your TWIC card.
yeah they dont make it easy
Safe Travels. Love❤❤❤❤ Miss Bailey. Give her a hug, smooches, & scratches behind each ear. A +1 Positive is you didn’t get shot while in Downtown ‘Nawlins.

Made me tired just watching. Nice video.
Looking good Dan
Little Bailey thinking this is bullshitt dad 😂😂 For sure you can really get messed up in them places , Definitely you have to have the twit card double ID all kinds of bullshitt , Good for you Dan , I don't mind helping if I think They appreciate and listen to me and learn how to do something , I never knew having that long of wheelbase would sling that much weight up on the steer
be safe out there take care yourselve Dan
ItsTWIC card.
Why did you have to put Bailey away like that?
Some places won't let pets on the property, looked like he was tossing her in jail 😆
Are you overweight on steer?
No as long as I’m not over 80000lbs and don’t go over the weight rating of my tires and they are rated for 7800 lbs each
Thanks for Watching
👍😎👍
And that’s when Bailey KNEW she messed up
Some places don't allow dogs...like chemical plants too, probably why he secured her.
That kind of ur dog
That port is not fun. I loaded what I think was zink bricks out of there
🇺🇸🗽🚛🛐
Drivers would tell me never buy fuel in New Orleans alot of water in it
:)
Sttay away from them ports. they are all the same
You can fast forward the whole video and not miss anything
Why did you watch it than
