This is brilliant. I know I will never do #vanlife. I'm in poor health and I'm elderly. But, y'know...my security cameras quit over the winter because their solar panels quit, because there is only sun on the deck in the morning and on the balcony in the afternoon. This would totally be a solution. The price looks pretty decent too, especially with your discount. I'm sure gonna think about it. Thanks for letting us know about shade solar. Vanlifers are so innovative.

Hello Sarah,nice build.one thing though,by experience,I've found that s steel washers and nuts against aluminium rails cause oxydation very quickly,best thing is to put nylon washers between the ss washers and the rails.and also use a product that's called dissimilar metal compound(the best I've used is from Dow Corning,green and yellow tube) on the parts that are touching the rails.

Looking forward to the build. Quick question. With EV cars/trucks now, is there a system where you could plug in your van, directly into your batteries/solar generator and charge up? That'd be awesome for rainy weeks/snow, or while you pop in to do grocery shopping. Guessing some adapter would be needed...

Is it just me? I did not see you put these shade panels in real shade.
It’s kind of hard to see because of the reflection but I assure you it was in the shade! It won’t work in complete shade (no solar panel will) but I tested it with up to a quarter of the panel shaded
Do they work in cloudy conditions, where it’s light out but absolutely no direct sunlight? My current panels get almost no input in these conditions even when it’s relatively bright out, so I’m looking for ones that will perform in cloudy and rainy conditions.
Yes, it works in cloudy conditions with no direct sunlight. Input will drop down but I was still able to get up to 300Watts from my panels on a really cloudy/rainy day. I still need to test it more though.
Next time you drill metal you might want to use cutting oil.

No, solar requires sunlight to get power, but my batteries will store the power so I can use some overnight
