Absolutely love you sharing your fueling techniques. I am plant-based and love it. Have all kinds of energy for running and cross training. Yours is my favorite running channel. Best of luck to you and Sarah in your upcoming races.
Excellent knife skills. Appreciate the videos. Helps motivate me to run at 67. Started running again in January. Just ran my first half marathon last Sunday at the Tulsa Half N Half. My BP cap gave me good luck and kept the Oklahoma sun out of me eyes. My favorite drink(s) after a run is Smart Water or lemon-lime Gatorade. #gettingitdone
Really interesting to see what you fuel with - love the idea of marinating and baking the tofu! Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but I've been watching a few of your videos over the last 2 days and sometimes the music comes up too abruptly and goes over you still speaking so your words are lost, which is a shame.
this is the first video i watch from you and you already made me a lot more motivated than i was ever before! i've been vegetarian for the past 4 years but today i woke up and said it's too much so here i am, doing research and finding new people that shares the same passion, thank you! you will see me a lot around here by now
I stopped putting butter and margarines on bread a couple of years ago no health benefits in any of them. Now I use hummus, greek or turkish yogurt, peanut butter, cottage cheese or soft cheese. All lower in calories and with better nutrition.
It's great that you show all the prep to give us an idea of quantities. I've been vegan nearly thirty years, but I'm a lot more cautious about beans, berries and veg before runs, having had a couple of 'emergency situations' mid-marathon. As I increase my training, I eat less and less fresh veg and more and more quinoa, rice, baked potatoes, anything that doesn't make me 'go'. I'm going to give this a try for two weeks (probably not beans twice per day though) and see how my stomach is. Thanks, Ben
More of these vids please 😊 I realised whilst watching this that my diet is very poor, so today, I’ve bought ingredients to make your breakfast and lunch, so from tomorrow, I should be eating a lot more healthily. Thank you for that 👍🏻😊
I’ve also never had a tea or coffee in my life. It astounds people but I think of all the time and money I’ve saved over the years! Great trick on using those 2 knives to keep your baking paper down for the tofu, I’m stealing that! We’re binging Modern Family here as well, up to season 5 so far. So easy to watch a few episodes in a row.
i have been a vegan for 2 weeks if it wasn't for your videos i probably would of packed after 2 days as I'm the worst cook on the planet but you've made it easy for me with your simple menus. People have actually liked what ive cooked copying your menu so ive give you loads of shout outs. so keep the cooking vids coming and ive started loving the running vids to help improve my running.
Hi Ben, thanks for the video! I try to always make a big pan of (lentil-carrot-pumpkin) soup on Sunday, which we can take out for lunch for the work-week with some cress on top. That, and I always make pancakes in the morning which fuels me really well, yes quite some carbs but yeah we need carbs! I’m sometimes still struggling with an after-workout snack as I don’t really crave any food at all.. Anyways, in 1,5 hours I’m running a 5k and hope to break 18mins, drank so many coffee I can’t wait to #gettingitdone ! Keep up with the good videos! Cheers from the Netherlands 😄
Your not the only one. Never liked the taste of coffee. Had one sip and that was my mind made up. Never bothered with tea either. You get some weird looks when you say you don't drink either
Good video; I'm mostly plant-based and those meals look awesome. As an older (boomer) athlete I would pass on those sauces and look for lower fat, sugar and sodium ingredients :) Thanks for putting this together!
Interesting and useful info as always! I would love to live a vegan lifestyle but could never eat that many beans in a day without my gut experiencing severe inflammation! Was a veggie for 2 years but now I am omnivore but make effort to only consume responsibly sourced animal byproducts.
So true that it is best to get all the goodness you need from real foods 👍 also, great idea regarding the 3 monthly blood test to keep on top of yourself. Will be trying that out. Where do you get that done if you don’t mind asking? Thanks 👍
You make as much mess as me in the kitchen 😂😂. Also you better get some free hats sent off to the boys at “ inside running podcast “ as your getting some stick from them 😂
Hi Ben - great video, love it! I have a question - it might seem obvious - but how significant are the benefits of stopping drinking alcohol? I know there are clearly some, and I don't mean the night before a race obviously, I mean day-to-day. I've contemplated it for a while to boost my running and wondering if you had any insight or experience with it?
Don’t have any knowledge other than my own experience.. I would be a classic binge drinker.. so little in the week, then a blowout on the weekend, through uni and in my 20’s.. that mellowed as I got older and just got bored with it, started running more.. and it just fizzled out of my life. I personally can’t see and occasional beer or glass of wine making any difference .. but if it’s more than that then surely it will do. Your sleep will be effected as your heart rate is higher, processing the alcohol.. it’s just adding strain on your body.. so that’s how I live now.. a glass of wine or a bottle of beer won’t hurt me now and again, but anymore than that will effect my body, the stress on it and how I can perform the next day. Obviously I’ve been lucky in the way that I’ve been able to stop easily and it’s not an issue, which is way easier said than done. Hope you find what works best for you!!
That bagel/beans/hummus combo looks like a pretty substantial. How long would you usually wait before heading out for your run after eating something like that Ben? My pre-run breakfast would be porridge with honey, washed down with a coffee!
Usually about 45 minutes.. in reality about an hour as get sidetracked with work bits coming in.. can't see it being that different from the time it takes to digest a porridge and honey combo!
Inspiring and informative thank you - really like the look of the s/lab motionfit jacket so expensive though! How do you find the sizing? im 6ft 4 so might have to be the XL for me
Probably an XL. It is hugely expensive .. Not worth it at full RRP. I found a deal and it was ok. Have a look at the Gore Shakedry, which is what the slab jacket is made out of.. but you tend to find some better deals out there for that one. All the best Steven!
@@stevenhunt3947 The s/lab motionfit jacket is on sale right now! Still expensive but I really wanted it since my current rain jacket is only great for light rain.

Hi Ben, great video, always interesting seeing what other runners eat. I tried going a month plant based last year but really missed Cheese which I am slightly addicted to. I've seen you use milk with SIS Rego before but thought that using Rego with milk stops or slows the absorption??? It was you that got me into chia seeds from an old video and I have them in everything now! Good luck with the race Sunday

Omg Ben, if I had beans before a run I wouldn't get far. I'd be running to the toilet. If I'm Running early I normally go fasted.
Was thinking the same... I eat legumes almost daily for lunch... and my stomach still hates me if I go on an evening run
Oh, I love adding houmous to baked beans too! Especially the red pepper or caramelised onion ones!
That evening meal looks 🔥! Also I couldn't say no to that hat. Awesome design. Will be waiting patiently in NJ for it to arrive.
I love how the bell pepper being called a pepper is the thing you chose to let us know the American difference on and not the zucchini 💚😝
