....love your : "Hello Everybody" said at super fast speed slur at the start of every vlog ....don't ever change it ...we love it 🤗🤗
My pre-run routine is to drive home from work.
😂
😂
🤣
I never eat before my morning runs, doing them fasted, even when doing workouts or longruns. Works great for me.
If you eat enough in general, your muscle Glycogen stores + fat oxidation will get you through most daily runs. Improving your bodies ability to tap into the stores more efficiently by not providing dietary energy is very beneficial longterm.
Nobody needs to eat before doing a 10k run or most daily runs., it is physically just not necessary.
Hydration and Electrolytes are key though, always stay hydrated.
that's cool that it works for you but probably not great to say that it'll blanket-ly work for everyone else. It probably does work for lots of males but energy needs are so individual and unique to every person. eg fasted exercise wrecks females hormone balance due to our physiology so it's never appropriate to regularly fast for exercise as a female.
@@caitlinknox2674 Hm, define the state „fasted“.
The studies that come to a conclusion that fasted training wrecks the hormone balance consider fasted exercise as „being in a Glycogen depleted state“.
This is definitely something that I agree with, running in a Glycogen depleted state is not good and that is not what I am refering to.
I mean fasted as in „no dietary carbs etc.“ in your system during the exercise in the morning for example.
If you start your standard daily exercise that is not too hard or too long with enough Glycogen stored in your muscles (from eating enough the day before, at night your body won’t hardly use any stored Glycogen as it uses primarily stored body fat for energy) to fuel that workout, your body won‘t hit that „depleted“ state where it has to start to break down amino acids/muscle tissue etc.
That is when it starts affecting hormones etc.
As long as your stores are not depleted, fasted exercise won‘t have any negative effects at all. Especially not when the exercise is not too hard and too long, like most of the daily workouts people are doing regularly.
I have been running for about 7 years but have only recently started wearing headphones/ aftershokz. I listen to the Long Run Show or Running Commentary. I listen to audio books to, like Your Pace or Mine by Lisa Jackson, 26.2 miles to Happiness by Paul Tonkinson and How to Run a Marathon by Vassos Alexander. I sometimes listen to non running stuff! 😊
Thanks Ben for sharing. Right on the spot! Another excellent and valuable video.
Take care !👍
Good tips Ben and thanks for sharing your podcast recommendations, need a few new ones to listen to 👍
Great video, thanks. I think hydration even the day before is important. I remember it making quite a difference when I started.
Great video Ben! What running belt is that you’re using? So good you can fit all that stuff in it 👏
My fave podcasts (running or otherwise) are science vs and trail society!
A night before a long run, carb load with simple carbs like rice works really well for me. And the morning of the long run having some good fats like peanuts works well.. Felt so much energy on the long run
Adding too much fat makes me puke before a run ^^'
Put harness and leash on Razor, my GSP dog, faithful and tireless running companion.
My pre run routine is to get geared up and then delay for an hour. I might eat something but usually I'll just do whatever and tell my GF "I'm working up to it"
Ben you showed some pasta during your video. It looked amazing can we get the recipe please? Also all your content it GREAT! Thanks to you and Sarah. Keep it coming.
Great video! Some nice tips. Just wondering what the impact is, healthwise (dental), with all the juice and isotone drinks. 🤔
You got a link for the running belt you are using? Looks very smart for the purpose!
Can highly recommend the Trail And Error podcast!
Hello Ben, great video. Could you tell me what running belt you have please?
Great vid as always, thanks ben! what storagebelt is it you use? I tried one like that once and struggled to get on with it. Interested in your reccommendation. thanks!
It's from Naked band
my favourite podcast is the magic animal club podcast, awsome video keep up the entertaining videos I love it when you upload, What do you prefer more running or cycling on zwift with your earphones in listening to your podcasts?
I use my beats for cycling on Zwift and aftershocks for running outside!
@@BenParkes Do you normally get very sweaty while doing zwift
All fair enough. I would add that it may be a good idea to carry an over the counter Immodium pill in your belt. If, despite your best efforts with nutrition, Montezuma is jogging along with you it's a better strategy than a cork.
Ha, fair enough! I usually take one before races, just in case!
Can you post a video on treadmill training? I just got one for the upcoming brutal Chicago winter to help me train for an upcoming March 2023 marathon. It’s my first winter marathon so I didn’t want to do my 4am weekday runs in negative temps before work. I’m scared though that this may impact my overall fitness if I do most of my weekday runs on the tread. Thoughts?
Will add it to my video idea list!
What is that belt / band you are using? Where can I buy it?
I like to change my sweaty shirt after I run and I don’t know how to carry
I have definitely been reliant on the local toilets about 5km into my run, its very frustrating and makes me worried about doing any other route that doesn't include passing a block of toilets. Not sure the cause yet.
Where I live mate is hilly and I run as soon I leave and face a hill immediately any advice for hills?
What’s the run band?
Hi Ben, I love the colour of your Tee in this video, I'm not a fan of the cream on you website, will you be getting this colour in stock in the future?? 🙂
Yes. If you get in touch via the website then we can get you one early. Not sure exactly when it’s launching yet
Hey Ben which of your hats do you recommend for the most sun protection as I’m a bald 🧑🦲 guy running in the Australian sun ☀️.
The bucket hat will offer you the most protection. benparkes.com/products/gettingitdone-bucket-hat or if you want a more traditional cap, then the OG hats are well covered. benparkes.com/products/copy-of-og-running-cap
All the very best!
If you have your watch on OVER your glove, does it still give a heart rate reading? Also, a Clif Bar and a pint of squash before a run sounds quite good. I guess it might depend on how long the run will be and whether you're doing the run just before another meal (and thus in a slightly depleted state).
No, you won’t get HR through a glove. The watch needs to be against the skin. Alternatively you can use a chest strap. All the best!
Does any body know of any free apps/websites where I can plan a route? Don’t currently have a Garmin watch, just an iPhone…..cheers!
Is lunch run a thing?
Your food all looks really good? Are you vegetarian/vegan?
That's a pretty big production to get ready for a run. Who has the time to do all that?
Pre-run:
When I'm running in the morning, I never eat anything. Just 1 or 2 cups of coffee and about ½L of water with a saltstick. Works perfect for me for any type of run, from intervals (12k in total) to long runs up to 3 hrs. If it's sweaty weather, I like to drink plain water with a saltstick now and then.
Post-run:
A good lunch with 2 eggs and a fresh made juice will do. No whey-shake for me!
@Ben what do you call that bag on your waist?
Don't eat before parkrun but 10 miles or more have porridge. 5 -8 miles a banana
Great video. I am relatively new to your channel, so apologies if you have covered it before but, why do you always wear gloves even on hot sunny runs?
I wear gloves below about 12 Celsius as my hands simply get cold. So the gloves keep them warm. Always suffered with it.
@@BenParkes I feel a bit silly with my question now, but that makes sense. Same reason eceryone else wears gloves 😐 Thanks.
I had something wierd happen this summer when I wanted to do a long run (30 km) through mostly forest and countryside. I used the Garmin website to define a route and when I uploaded it to my watch, it said that it could hold a maximum of 50 waypoints. Huh? Why can't I upload the whole run? That was really wierd. I tried setting up the run again not creating so many points myself, but letting the system calculate them. It took about 5 tries to get under 50. But, I was wondering if I was doing something wrong or if there are any strategies out there to deal with this limitation.
I think my watch does 200 waypoints.. but previous ones were less. Even though it says this sometimes.. I just click ok and have never actually noticed any issues with the route when I’m going. It always seems to follow it fine right to the end. Probably need to do some more reading about it though and work out what’s happening
I think this has to do with the device detecting turns. So it will have the first 50 waypoints (meaning it can give you a notification if a turn is coming up) and just have the rest of the route mapped out, but no notifications for turns after the first 50. But since the route is still mapped out on your watch you can just keep an eye on it, rather than rely on it to buzz and tell you to turn
What type of running waist band did you show in the video?
The brand is called Naked
Naked band!
Thanks, I hate having my phone in my pocket bouncing around and I hate holding it too. Does this band hold it tightly to your body so at max effort the phone doesn’t bounce or move?
@@cfreeze3691 I ran a max effort half marathon in 69 mins wearing it with a GoPro and phone in. So it does pretty well!
@@cfreeze3691 yes. I have been using it since last one year . It’s good….. u have to order according to your waist size
Hi Ben, Great Videos I have been trying to contact you regarding tips as I am a 2 time Guinness world record holder for the marathon and half marathon dressed as wrestler John Cena.

Great for Italian pasta 🤣🤣 with vegetables, good choice !!!
Podcast: The Happy Runner
So according to you if you run just for fun with no interest in time etc i.
Ever way surely No miles are Junk.
I do most of my running just for fun.. getting outside, enjoying nature, sights, sounds, friends etc.. whatever makes you happy. But still think it’s good to have a rough goal for every run. Whether that’s keeping it all easy, working on some speed with a bit of fartlek or some strength over some hills. Helps me with my motivation to get out day after day! Everyone is different, but these things are just what works for me!
With the “junk miles” thing I feel there is no such thing. I get your reasoning but surely any runs are not a waste of time as it’s burning calories and maintaining fitness and consistency? Sometimes it’s just nice to go for an explore or just get some fresh air and have no real purpose.
Then those days have your goal of going for an explore.. my point wasn’t you always have to be training for a long term outcome.. it was just have a reason for your run that day. All your points here are great reasons to run.. they are great ‘why’s’ to get out the door. Sorry if it didn’t come across that way in the video. All the best!
@@BenParkes cheers mate yep understand. Love your videos thanks.
I think I’m going to feel the need to pee if I will drink 1liter before my long runs.
Well it’s during the 60-90 mins before.. not right before. So most people would go to the loo before the run and start it properly hydrated.
Sometimes I think you all put too much emphasis on performance instead if pleasure. Performance focus only and you will get injured and you will be disappointed. Enjoy the so-called junk miles. No such thing anyway...IF your priorities are onpoint.
Yes and one of the best goals is just going out to explore, see sights, fresh air, jog with a friend etc! I don’t think I made the point in quite the right way, as was simply trying to say don’t walk out the door and think ‘what am I doing today!’ As those are the junk miles, with no purpose. My best runs are the ones simply to explore the world and see nature!
I don’t see any meat in your diet?
Could you open your mouth a little more when you talk? I can hardly understand anything...
What’s Ben’s pre-golf routine? 🏌️♂️
Change shoes in car park, walk to first tee.. hit first shot OB! Think to myself running is way easier and go home for a run.
