How did we deserve such a comprehensive video?! This is like 100 videos in 1! Thanks a million Ben!! Some of my recommendations. Books - Training for the uphill athlete - The Maffetone Method - Eat and Run & North both by Scott Jurek Podcasts - Weekly Word Podcast by Chris Hauth (former coach of Rich Roll). Great detailed content related to ultra endurance sports. - The Extramilest Show by Floris Gierman. All about HR training.
If you have a garmin without music I would recommend the Mighty Vibe music player. Super small and light (ipod shuffle size) and you can listen to spotify music on it. One downside is that the bluetooth can be slightly dodgy on it
The oh1 also has bluetooth ;-) My favorites: Vibrating foam roller for decathlon Flipbelt Compressport pro hat Salomon adv 5 vest Nike Wildhorse 6 trail shoes Nike pegasus turbo 2 road shoes Injinji soks normal and compression Compressport compression sleeves Garmin vivoactive 3 Polar OH1 heartrate monitor Jaybird tarah pro headphone Craft lightweight short Craft cool base shirt Under Armour leggings
Thanks for including the heart rate info Ben 😊 a really comprehensive video which I can really appreciate the effort you put in. Will definitely be calling on this vid for some ideas of kit moving forward. Really enjoying Jenni Falconers Runpod podcast at the moment I must say. Keep Getting it Done and I'll be ordering a hat as soon as I can work out how deep my forehead is 😂
Great video Ben, lots of good recommendations and options all things running. You’ve covered most bases and i found it interesting how you’ve acquired top recovery tools rather than buy dozens of pairs of expensive runners and leave no budget for recovery etc. My fav piece of kit is my Huawei GT2 watch, it does everything for the everyday runner, great battery life, stats inc heart rate, maps, cadence etc. My recently arrived Saucony endorphin speeds are a close second - it hasn’t stopped raining yet this week to try them properly 🙈😏☔️☔️☔️
Good news, gyms can open on the 25th apparently. Just thought I'd add the runnderwear socks are also very good. The single skin ones. And jailbird headphones x3 are also great. Good to see a 'behind the scene's video. Really must get a new hat. If only I knew where to get one. . . .
Brilliant video Ben like a one stop shop for all your kit! Thanks for the feedback on the New Balance 1080 V10 looking at an alternative to my favoured weapon of choice Adidas Ultraboosts so may well plum for those.
Great collection and thanks for sharing. I just wonder about the first book you recommended - it is not the most Nike-friendly, is it? Also these headlamps are my favorite as well and they are usually assembled near my place in Bulgaria. Our best export, probably.
Great vid Ben, haven't heard many good things about the Peg 37's from any of the reviewers I trust. Completely agree on the 1080, absolutely in love with them!
Portugal is the most beautiful country in the world for me, (with the most beautiful women) you're a lucky man Tulio, to live there. I'm from Amsterdam. I go there every year 3 times on holidays but due to the pandemic I haven't been since June 2020.
1# shoe in my rotation, have run through 12 pairs by now.... - The New Balance Vongo. The perfect mix between some medial support, plush cushioning but still find them responsive enough to do reps at 3:10/km-pace - no problems!
Hey @Ben Parkes, thanks for this video. Good to see you are getting back to your best. Can I ask, did you buy the Roll R8 in the UK or have to import it? Cheers
Ben as usual wonderful and helpful content! I never see you or Sarah drink energy drinks. Do you believe it hurts your running overall or is it more preference? Thanks..
Ben, nice shoe rotation, bit similar to what I've been using lately. All of the shoes you use do have quite a bit of a higher stack, don't they? Do you never wear something more similar to a racing flat?
I love the look of the Peg Trail 2 but I just couldn’t get into running into them. I probably should’ve given them more time before going back to the 36
I was about to click buy on the nike pegasus 37's just before I saw your review. I've been running on/off for 18months but picked it up a bit since lockdown as a friend has been running with me. I have no intention of doing any races or anything like that but want a good all round running trainer as i'm running on some £30 ones right now. Any suggestions?
Good vid ben bin watching your vids a while now . Currently goin through a non running spell with tendonitis in my peroneous properly struggling mentally . Panicking as to whether I'll get back to where I was . Any advice from your experiences ?
I'm going through the same thing! But with tendonitis in my posterior tibial tendon (ankle). I've had it before worse (unfortunately it's come back), but when I was able to run again I got back to my previous level of fitness faster then it took to build and continued to progress. We can get through this!
@@chloebean2238 awww good luck I've just never had this type of injury before.. I've just completed my second really light bike ride in mid to low gears and I feel like I can actually see light at the end now i see my physio again on weds. Hope u come back strong 🦵💪
Ashley Holbrook I have tried a pair a while ago and they were ok.. they’d be my go to choice if I was running in very wet / muddy terrain for sure. They are the best at that!
My favourite piece of running gear is definitely my garmin watch....just really love that it tracks everything and later shows many different graphs and statistics :) Also, don't you feel like the 945 is quite big and do you use garmin pay?
Garmin pay doesn’t support that many banks yet, well by bank isn’t on there. Plus I always have my phone with me and use Apple Pay. I like the size. I had a Fenix before and that was too big, so changed it for the 945!
If you have planter fasciitis, you need a night brace. In America you can find them at CVS or Walgreens for $25. They keep your foot flexed as you sleep so the tendons recover at the proper length. I cant say its the most comfortable thing I've worn, but it cured my planter fasciitis in a few nights.
Hi Ben, where do you store all of your videos from the past in order to use them in your current videos, do you keep the edited video stored or do you store the sections of your previous videos? Wish you a speedy recovery with after your surgery!
I have various portable drives with old videos on.. I have all the libraries stored there, so can easily open them up again and drag clips into current videos if need be. Not sure if that's how other people do it, but works for me!
I'm rocking Altra Lone Peaks for my trail running and Altra Torin 4.5 plush for road... really need to branch out, I'm just not 100% sold on Altra any more.
I run with two watches. On my Apple Watch 5 (which has a 3G eSIM in it) I can stream podcasts, music , Spotify, etc as well as take a phone call or broadcast my live location to the wife if I am in the forest. This means I can leave my iPhone at home and not be out of touch. On the other wrist I use a Garmin Forerunner 245 for all the obvious reasons.
It’s probably only a matter of time until Garmin have a eSIM watch. I always take my phone with me, for all the reasons you add here.. all safety. But would much rather leave it at home!
The runners glide stick made me click this vid lol! I was like ok glide stick is a must and real for runners like myself that’s how I knew this vid would be authentic
Hi Ben. Great Video. I am also running the TP100. I was wondering what kind of shoe you would recommend as I have never ran on the trail. I see you mention the Nike Trail 2. I have heard from others that a road shoe would be more suitable as its mostly compact smooth paths? Would be good to hear your opinion. Thanks for the great content, keep it coming.
The first half is mainly hard surfaces, tarmac etc.. so a cushioned road shoe would be good.. Hoka Clifton, new balance 1080, ASICS novablast would be my initial shoes I’d be reaching for. Then the second half is very light trail mainly.. and if it’s dry you could easily carry on it road shoes. If it’s damp then a light trail shoe like the Hoka ATR it Nike Pegasus 36/Trail 2 would be a good option. Make sure you’ve done plenty of training miles in the model of shoe though to make sure they are 100% right for you!! Good luck!
Hi Ben! Thank you for this amazing video! Lots of food for thought :) I have one question - when you do gym or strength training (i.e. not running), do you have a specific pair of trainers, or do you just use whichever shoes you're running in right now? Thanks!
Was going to ask about the Polar OH1 v Garmin HRM Run. Like the idea of the extra running dynamics but prefer an arm band to a chest strap. Is HRM run worth it for the extra info? How helpful is it? Many thanks.
The pod gives me all the extra info.. so that combination of the pod and oh1 gives me the same result if I need it. The information is good.. I only use it in sessions and simply use it after the run to compare trends over time. All the best!
It’s the most breathable one I’ve worn.. but still not great. They never are! Haven’t ran in ultra boost trainers for a couple of years. I got plantar fasciitis last time and stopped using them!
Can someone clarify what is meant by a shoe being “responsive” or “non-responsive”? New runner here, still trying out shoes and not familiar yet with everything

@@kvhaes I'll try that one out!

Great video Ben. Really useful. My best gadget by far is my Garmin Fenix 6 watch. Does everything and keeps me motivated. Brilliant.
I liked the shot of the camera filming you on the sofa - nice touch 👍
Great video Ben.
Best bit of kit, Patagonia Strider Pro 5inch shorts. Incredible storage and very comfortable!
Linerless right?

Glad you liked it Alex! Will have a look at that podcast. All the best with your running 😃
Enjoyed this
Love the Naked belt as well. Two shoes I'm really enjoying at the moment are the Endorphine pro's and Clifton 7's.
Inside running podcast is great! Love listening to Brady, Moose and Crokes! Road to nowhere with Nick, Ellie and Joel is good for a laugh too

What you think of hokas I've havent tried my hoka arahi 4s yet but cant wait still injured.. need more of your hats
After trying with a lot of shoe for long runs or recovery runs for my the best shoe is the Hoka One One Clifton 6... I really love it !!!
perfect to watch during diner!
Great vid Ben, haven't heard many good things about the Peg 37's from any of the reviewers I trust. Completely agree on the 1080, absolutely in love with them!
.. it won't be a favourable review from me when I get it recorded.. plenty of much better shoes out there! Hope all is well with you Dean! :-)
I count the days to receive in Portugal my new Ben Parkes Cap Greenwich and to be able to try it. 🙏🏼😀
Portugal is the most beautiful country in the world for me, (with the most beautiful women) you're a lucky man Tulio, to live there. I'm from Amsterdam. I go there every year 3 times on holidays but due to the pandemic I haven't been since June 2020.
I like this type of series
My favorites are my Fenix 5 and my saucony triumph iso 5.
I can now add a spanking new Matt black cap to my running kit! Thanks, received yesterday..cool!

You should check out the Brooks Hyperion Tempo. Used to love the Turbo 2 but the Hyperion Tempo has replaced them in my lineup
Hey @Ben Parkes, thanks for this video. Good to see you are getting back to your best.
Can I ask, did you buy the Roll R8 in the UK or have to import it? Cheers
Awesome video Ben! Big question: Guessing you are a footie fan (Peter C podcast!) What football team do you follow ?
Just subscribed, excellent channel.👍
Nike flex stride shorts are amazing. My favourite are your hats and hokas and socks
Ben as usual wonderful and helpful content! I never see you or Sarah drink energy drinks. Do you believe it hurts your running overall or is it more preference? Thanks..
Also: Lumonite Compass R headlamp. Super durable, waterproof, insanely bright for it's size. Worth every penny.
Thanks for the podcast suggestions. Does anybody have any other ones.
Garmin Fenix 5x plus, Hoka One One Arahi 3, and G1M sport from BPN
Ben, nice shoe rotation, bit similar to what I've been using lately. All of the shoes you use do have quite a bit of a higher stack, don't they? Do you never wear something more similar to a racing flat?
I recommend reading 'Running Crazy'. Amazing book.
I love the look of the Peg Trail 2 but I just couldn’t get into running into them. I probably should’ve given them more time before going back to the 36
For socks I highly recommend Smartwool. They are insanely comfortable.
Coolmax socks are awesome as well.
I can't get into peg 37 either.
Hope your injury improves, im having lots physio no improvent yet tho
Just ordered the hats looking forward to wearing them, very hard to get a decent hat so fingers crossed

Any chance you might move away from nike trail shoes? Inov8 etc?
Awesome vid ben. My favourite item is the Compressport pro racing v3 sock = super cool feet. 👍
Lovely bright colours no doubt!!
Any idea on where to get the next%'s Ben? Cant seem to find them anywhere
In fact, running environment gears are more expensive than pure running gears!
Thanks for sharing !
More v2 review coming soon?
Love my garmin 245!
QD: My Polar vantage + my salomon skin 5. Softbottle is no go. just regular hard bottle( cola) its better
I got a pair of the 1080v10 before I saw your video and agree with what you say...
my favorite gear is my running cap whether it’s raining or sunny weather 🧢
What kind if drop is better to use for fast trainings, long rungs and for races 10km , half and marathon ?
If you like the Turbos you should try the new Saucony Endorphin Speed - unbelievably good 👌🏼

Fancy trying any of the Inov-8 trail shoes?
Also, I was an avid Garmin user then switched to COROS a couple of months back and I've not looked back!
Ashley Holbrook I have tried a pair a while ago and they were ok.. they’d be my go to choice if I was running in very wet / muddy terrain for sure. They are the best at that!
Peg 37 works well for me. Tracksmith Reggie half rights. Aftershokz air. Balega socks. Hoka rincon for lightweight trainers.
I've had a lot of use out of my Salomon products. They're worth spending the additional £ on.
Hi Ben, got really surprised to see that bridge near Waitrose. This is one of my go-to routes from Canada Water to Greenwich Park :)
Vasil Nikolaenko we live in Greenwich.. so go over it quite a bit!
Would recommend Runpod with Jenni Falconer. Ps. Where's your pull up bar gone

Garmin 245 works absolutely fine for me :)

Haruki Murakami's What I Talk About When I Talk About Running is a wonderful read.
I do have a copy somewhere.. but it’s gone missing. Think a friend has stolen it!! Fantastic book!
Great video Ben. How many pairs of shorts do you have on the go in your rotation.....?
