  • The roads north were not kind to my poor MoHo, but she's all fixed up now and ready for many more miles. It was important to get all of those jobs done, and it was important to get in some well needed time with family, but it feels great to be on the road again. The goal this winter is Mexico, specifically the Baja Peninsula, but I am in no hurry to get there. We talked a little this spring about slowing down and really diving into places a little more, and I am continuing that mentality south. This episode takes us once again coastal, but this time a couple thousand KM's south, to the beautiful Oregon Coast. These little coastal towns along highway 101 are such a joy to travel through. They come with their fair share of touristy shops and scenic stops, but they are all rich in history and you can just feel the Salty Sailor in the air. I have missed being at the ocean, so this is a welcomed sight, and with the ocean comes Crabs. Having this freezer in the MoHo has totally changed my life, but its not so easy to freeze crab so I only get it when its fresh. Then it's time to pig out!
I have done this trip down the coast many times as a young kid, but this is my first time as an adult. It is so nice to see the familiar old stomping grounds, and to enjoy some things I often looked past as a high energy youth. With so many memories in this area, I worried I may be home sick seeing it all on my solo travels, but that is not the case. The familiar smells, experiences and seemingly unchanged seaside towns have brought a peace into my mind that was really needed at this time. I unexpectedly even managed to find some new things. I have explore the abandoned warehouse here in Florence before, but somehow I didn't notice the house on the train bridge. Today, this site did not avoid my glance, and what a neat thing to see. I will enjoy some more days here in Florence, and then it will be new territory for me continuing south. I can not wait to share it with you all.
If you enjoy this show, and you would like to help me get south to exciting new locations to share, please consider taking a look at my Patreon Page: / destinationadventure

Just watched the video loved it seeing the swing bridge reminds me of my teenage years we lived on a farm located on the confluence of the Chehalais river and the Wynoochie Rivers there was a old abandoned swing bridge. We floated to the bridge climbed up to bridge house and discovered a treasure trove of railroad artifact's also discovered that the bridge control's still worked we found that if you did not engage the rail lock the bridge would swing in a full circle . Needless to say when we left to get back to shore we left it running it was over 24 hrs the bridge went around and around untill somebody got it stopped was only a year or 2 when the bridge was takin down. Good thing there is the statue of limitations

Hi Dustin...I watch your channel all the time and love to see the abandon places you go. I am in Oregon and like seeing Oregon from someone else's eyes. In the last part of your video, you are at the Siuslaw river in Florence. We fish that river for Chinook salmon in the Spring and Fall. You just missed the Fall salmon run. We live in the Eugene/Springfield area, so we are only an hour away from the coast. My husband loves fishing in the bays all along the Oregon coast.

As you go south on 101 you will soon get to one of my childhood homes Crescent City California. When you get there, drive a few miles inland on hwy 199. There you will find an incredible dry campground called Jedidiah Smith. Trees like you have never seen. Quiet camping. I have relatives there who can give you a hand if you need anything. Crabbing off the docks should be good for crabs as well.

I was just in almost all of those places last month. Interesting seeing the same places through another's eyes. The building on the Siuslaw is almost certainly an old sawmill. Logs would be floated down river and milled there and then the finished timber would go out either by truck or barge. From the historic overheads it looks like it was in operation until at least 1994.
If you come back through Bellingham drop me a line and I'll buy you lunch and show you some cool spots.

Dustin, an FYI if you didn’t already know, if you’re in a town where you’re unsure if you can park in a certain spot with your large rig, you can call the local non-emergency police # and ask them. If it’s not allowed (which is rare this time of year), they’ll tell you a usually better spot to park.
Also, as I figure your videos are probably a couple weeks behind your present location, if you’re down here near Ehrenberg, AZ, there’s a few of us fellow RUclipsrs full-timing in our RV’s. You’re welcome to join our camp. We’ll be here till mid-March.

First off, there is no local Police force in Depot Bay, so it's only the Sherriff that patrols that area, and during the off-season like this, nobody is gonna look twice at your rig parked there.
But during the summer busy season, that's another story!! It gets packed with tourists!!
Then they get much tighter about patrolling these parts, as parking becomes a premium.
The old mill site you stopped at just outside Florence is a local landmark, but it's been vacant for so many years that no one pays any attention to it anymore.
1 hour south is Coos Bay, which is where I call home.
Nice relaxing video. Enjoy your travels

Great video! Love the beard, it looks like you have porcupine quills on the bottom with the grey hairs lol! Mine are growing on my cheeks.

Absolutely loved this video, it brought back so many memories for me! My husband and I toured the Oregon coast for our honeymoon 25 years ago. Just a beautiful stretch of coastline.

We stayed in newport this summer , it was fun to explore the old downtown with all the shops and fish processing plant. Ripleys believe it or not was cool too. Seemed to be alot of shady people on the 101 in town though. lol

Been to Depot Bay many times. And yes, it is kind of special, it has the smallest working harbor in the world, if I am not mistaken. I've been on that crabbing pier, and yes the tide is crazy some times. Also Mo's is one of the best for Clam Chowder. I love the Oregon Coast. And Newport Oregon, yep, love that place. I even donated money to help work on the bridge, many many MANY years ago. So much to see and do in Newport. And yet, very few RUclipsrs ever stay there very long. That float with the tag, that was marking a set crab pot. The tag let people know who it belonged too.
