I love the goblet form. Captured rings are so much fun too, I took my captured ring tool out to my Dad's place to show him how to turn them (he's been turning for years) and it was really cool being able to teach him something for a change :)
I made something very similar to that in my high school woodshop class. A candy bowl with a floating ring around the center stem. After I had cut the ring loose I taped it to the bottom base to keep it from flapping all over the place. It allowed me to finish off the stem without the ring getting in the way or from it flapping around and breaking. I love the look of things like this because they often bring about a very good conversation piece. I do love the way you offset your piece to get that off center stem. That gives it a really cool look..
Pretty awesome, and a clutch save to boot! It's crazy, out of all these woodturning guys on RUclips, this is the first "mistake" I've come across. I'm sure there's more, and definitely more dangerous ones, but nobody wants to show those! Great job!
good recovery Cook. if i may, after cutting the ring you can sand it by glueing the send paper to the goblet leg and let it sended and 2nd, use a tape to stick the ring to upper part of the goblet so it wont bother you finishing the rest of the goblet.
Wow just a stunning goblet ..Would not look out of place in a fantasy film setting ..love the ring it’s really different and really makes this beautiful goblet 😀
You are the best RING torturer I ever seen. I could hear it screaming, AHHHH....Help Me........Or.... My "precious....precious...." (Lord of the Ring reference}
my dad was a cabinet maker in the 60's thru early 80's. though a lathe wouldn't have been used in any work I saw him do he feared the table saw more than a lathe. to me its always looked terrifying. I always see marks and holes in the walls behind the lathes when you guys use them. I never assume its from debris. I always guessed it was the chisels going flying.
That "Peep" sound with the expletive I have come to know while doing some wood turning projects. It happens quite easily if the attention wanders for even a moment.
But I thought you needed one of those $500 chucks, a $5,000 lathe, and of course those high priced Thompson tools to turn an off set piece. You proved me wrong. Nice work.
Even after a slight f(beep) up with the first ring you still managed to create a very beautiful piece. Even I started swearing when I saw the first ring fly apart. Man that would have really (beep) me off if that had happened to me.
Nice work and such great and sharp tools. I am beginner and still having most issues with dull and some handmade tools since woodturning market in my country sucks!
Buenas noches, feliz año nuevo muy interesante su trabajo, ya me a pasado que terminando y algo se rompe, me gustó mucho que no lo dejara y hizo un lindo anillo, fue una solución.
Le seigneur de l'anneau : "The lord of the ring one" Je suis français, j'utilise un traducteur toutes mes félicitations, c'est magnifique I am French, I use a translator congratulations, that's wonderful
7:03 The "SNAP!" sound made as the gouge decides to suddenly jump to the right into the wood makes me wonder if there wasn't something wrong with the wood at this point. Either that or you had it at the wrong angle and it dug in with disastrous consequences! You were turning it with an odd bent shape in it so that may have contributed to wobble which in turn may have caused the gouge to jump.
I have been turning pens and small items for around 20 years. I understand you are just getting started (about a year) in wood turning. I hope I can master the bowl/spindle skew as well as you.... Keep Turning!!!! wayne
If you were rowing down Main Street in your canoe, and the right front wheel fell off... How many pancakes could you fit in a doghouse? None! Because ice cream has no bones!
8:36 - wouldn't it be easier to fix the ring on the right side (maybe with a piece of tape) while working on the left side, so it doesn't interfere with the cutting tools?
I know RUclips would would send you to bed without supper for putting this song in the background but all I could hear in my head was 🎶🎶"Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)"🎶🎶
As a finished piece it turned out really well Drew🏆 Something to be proud of fer sure 👍😃 Why didn't you use the tennis ball, even though you didn't need it - I was on pins and needles the whole time.📌🧵 Thanks for braving this project and showing us🙏 -Mike p.s. The fractured ring reminded me of a mushroom🍄 Sorta.
You are the lord of the rings💪💪😁
Well done 🤣
thanks👌😉
Nice
😂😂😂
@@woodeninventorchannel3892 😂🤣🤣🤣
I literally yelled out when you hit the ring. I know that frustration so well. Great save

I need one of those tools! Did you make it yourself?
The asymmetry and the shape of the bowl gives it the 60s look of something from Star Trek TOS. Bravo!
I love how you leave mistakes in the videos. Makes me feel better about still learning and making my mistakes
Yeah we all do it, might as well show it haha
Nice recovery, mate!
İ bout cried when the forst ring broke. Gladyou were able to save the piece! Well done!
Thank you!

Once the ring is free, tape it in place so the banging around does not damage it. Good job.
Its nice that you show your mistakes or misadventures as well :)
Good result in the end

great recovery from a broken turning, very smart of you to do the floating ring,
good recovery Cook. if i may, after cutting the ring you can sand it by glueing the send paper to the goblet leg and let it sended and 2nd, use a tape to stick the ring to upper part of the goblet so it wont bother you finishing the rest of the goblet.
Thanks for the tip!
A nice recapture of a captured ring
You can tape down the second ring so that it doesn't flail so much and possibly break again.
Wow! Amazing piece,good recovery!!
Heck of a ring tone. really enjoyed watching, look forward to turning one later
Amazing, and you make it look so easy. That’s real talent.
Ring-a-ding-ding you could hear the wood sing. Nice save on the captured ring and great finished product.
I have not seen anything like this before - very nice work!
That's AWESOME!!! I really need to try offset turning!!!👍
Very creative and an excellent save!! You are a pro!!😊👍
Great recovery.
Looks like you finally 'put a ring on it'!! Congrats!! :)
Wow just a stunning goblet ..Would not look out of place in a fantasy film setting ..love the ring it’s really different and really makes this beautiful goblet 😀
Thanks so much!
Sometimes the worst mistake becomes your new ring bearer
"Ring along with me." Brings back memories of wood turning in High School shop class. Very nice project.

You are the best RING torturer I ever seen. I could hear it screaming, AHHHH....Help Me........Or.... My "precious....precious...." (Lord of the Ring reference}
I thought wood turning is a waste of time, but you changed my mind. Great work.
Love the ring
Nice recovery. Very nice piece.
RING OF EXCELLENCE

to me its always looked terrifying. I always see marks and holes in the walls behind the lathes when you guys use them. I never assume its from debris. I always
guessed it was the chisels going flying.
Nope, the holes in walls are from the language used after a 'happy little accident.'
Wow, it looks like some sort of engine part from an exotic supercar! Amazing work, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Yikes!!!! Have NEVER seen anything like that. Wow! That’s amazing! Well done!
That "Peep" sound with the expletive I have come to know while doing some wood turning projects. It happens quite easily if the attention wanders for even a moment.
That off-center turn scared the you-know-what outta me!
Hah it freaked me out the first time I tried it for sure
Mike, I didn't forget to try the ring on an off center goblet!
Ooh I noticed first thing 😎👍😁😃 -Mike
But I thought you needed one of those $500 chucks, a $5,000 lathe, and of course those high priced Thompson tools to turn an off set piece. You proved me wrong. Nice work.
As the great Bob Ross would say, "That's a happy little accident."
Seriously, that thing turned out so cool looking!
That looked crazy dangerous when you spun it off-set
Even after a slight f(beep) up with the first ring you still managed to create a very beautiful piece. Even I started swearing when I saw the first ring fly apart. Man that would have really (beep) me off if that had happened to me.
Haha yeah one little slip and I almost ruined the whole (beep) thing
Seeing the ring flipping around made me think it was a dead ringer for sure.
Nice work and such great and sharp tools. I am beginner and still having most issues with dull and some handmade tools since woodturning market in my country sucks!
Yes sharp tools are very important! Keep at it!
1 ring to rule them all
I had a pretty good idea about making the ring, I just didn't know how you got the twist in there.
Buenas noches, feliz año nuevo muy interesante su trabajo, ya me a pasado que terminando y algo se rompe, me gustó mucho que no lo dejara y hizo un lindo anillo, fue una solución.
Sometimes you get the captive ring and sometimes it gets you 🐻 (Lord of the Rings comment deserves the shout IMHO)
This one was pretty good...
You may not work in a circus but you are a Ring Master.😊😊😊
Your channel showed up in my recommendations, wow amazing skillz and vision. Beautiful piece of art. I’m ringing that sub 🛎 ❤️
Thank you!!
Perfect celestial Saturn ring
That's better than a ship in a bottle.😁
You really put that piece of wood through the wringer.
Wow! Nice offset work with the G3. I'm glad you're comfortable with it, I sure am not! 😆
Almost lost the ring idea, but you salvaged it.
I need to use safety goggles even watching this video
Hahahaha
man that goblet can hula hoop like no bodies business

congratulations, that's wonderful
I've got a great comment about your catch, but I figure you already came up with it :-) Great job recovering from the bitter end.
I'd say that save gets a ringing endorsement of the best save.
Hahahaha good one!
A great job !
You are the Ring Bearer.
Not what I imagined watching when entering the title on google

You are the ring of the overlords.
Another excellent project thank you 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
VERY NICE recovery!!!!!
Thanks Wayne!
I have been turning pens and small items for around 20 years. I understand you are just getting started (about a year) in wood turning. I hope I can master the bowl/spindle skew as well as you.... Keep Turning!!!! wayne
I'm sure you can! It took me a bit to get the hang of, and I still need a lot of practice, but bowls and big things can be so fun to turn!
One ring to fool them all, one ring to beguile them.
One ring to bring them all and in the wood bind them.
in this corner of youtube where the chisels lie.
man, you are something else, wow !
Sweet recovery....
If you were rowing down Main Street in your canoe, and the right front wheel fell off...
How many pancakes could you fit in a doghouse?
None! Because ice cream has no bones!
Verry good thanks for watching
Great save on the ring!!!! They are really tricky. You've gotten really good with that gouge! :)
Thanks Gayle!
I LOVE this!!!!! Do you sell your turnings?
Thanks! Yes I sell some on my website cookwoodturning.com
When you screw up, sometimes you have to give em a ring.
You get to create a ring moment, only after a break up
8:36 - wouldn't it be easier to fix the ring on the right side (maybe with a piece of tape) while working on the left side, so it doesn't interfere with the cutting tools?
Absolutely amazing work. Question, was the wood green or dry?
Thanks! It was pretty green, maybe a month drying at the time
Im just wondeRing if this is gonna be my next project :P
The same wood piece I was doing that as a child.
what's your point?

Haha yeah I'd be in RUclips jail if I added that song
I am amazed that the log stays in the chuck. Nice solution for the piece flying off, shit happens.
Morty : How did that get there?
Rick : OMG yeah... how did that get there?
Sweet !!!
4:18. That really feared me !
What kind of wood is that? Cedar?
“But the heart of men is easily corrupted and the Ring of Power has a will of its own”

He liked it.....so he put a RING on it!
COMMENT QUESTION: "Do you like my ring-a-ding-chalice-thing?" ;)

Thanks Mike! This one was too off kilter for the tennis ball to even have a spot to go😳
Your log wanted to marry your chisel @9:00
Sonic would have an aneurism trying to grab that ring.
Hahaha

# Positive commenting ! Cranky ideas work ! It's different! All the BEST !
Nice work
Thanks
Best ring comment
Guess you liked it so you went and put a ring on it 😄
Shame about the catch. You did a good job bringing it back.
