One of my absolute favorite shooter games of all time. Antimatter Games are truly something else. I cannot wait for the next game '83 and hopefully Jonathan's reaction. In one of the early Dev blogs for example they mentioned how people pointed out wrong buttons on one of the uniforms and how they fixed that. Their attention to detail is amazing and the implemention of asymmetrical warfare for RS2 was great. But somewhat surprised that the different AKs from Russian and Chinese protection weren't noticed in this video. Part 2? :)
Something I always liked about this game where the different ammo types. Sure, you could use shot in a double barrel shotgun but you could also go with slug rounds which is something you really done ever see in games.
I love that there is a good suppression mechanic in this game with a nice and accurate selection of firearms for a Vietnam war setting. The M79 shares the characteristic of the M1 Garand where a distinctive sound is produced by the weapons that is very recognizable like their visual profile. The ping for the Garand and the Bloop of the M79. I loved also the MAT-49 French submachine gun added as that is appropriate in the war. And the Vietcong took and used these off of the French. The Vietcong did like the MAT-49 because of provided automatic fire and it was lightweight which very suited their style of guerrilla warfare and for they are always on the move. So that was a charming aspect of it to the VC.
Pretty sure I've played with him too. That message and name looked awfully familiar, LOL. I've noticed that it seems there's ALWAYS that ONE guy in every group who spends the whole game spamming everyone to ban whomever he's annoyed at. Sometimes two serial ban bunnies go at it trying to out ban request each other. It can be entertaining.
I wanna see Jonathan react to weapon malfunctions and explosions from Farcry 2. While on that topic it would be great if Jonathan can enlighten us with his knowledge of clearing weapon jams.
I definitely hope that you join us in playing this game man. Made by the same guys who made Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm 1 these guys are very good in depicting the realism of combat. Also you’ll get to have more fun with “ALL” the guns in the game - from Mosin Rilfes, Thompson’s, Browning 1919s, MP40s, to RPDs, SKSs and RPGs (and yes they take into realism and the backblast)
We need a part 2 there are so many good guns like the shotgun, snipers, and many of the Australian guns that were not shown here. Also there are interesting weapons like different types of grenades, traps, and even the commander artillery strikes and napalm.
I think the description of flamethrowers as more of a psychological weapon is really true and that is done really well in game, there's nothing scarier than sitting in a bunker and hearing someone nearby with w flamethrower
I would really appreciate a second part to this one that covers some of the more rarer weapons in the game and it would also be very interesting to see him react to more of the realistic game mechanics in the game too like adjusting sights, bipods, different magazines, changing weapons to fire riflw grenades and also the certain variants of some weapons on display (chinese AKs, The L1A1 variants and so on). Great video as always though, needs a part 2.
Mr. Ferguson, thank you for these videos. they have brought much entertainment. I have donated to your museum and hope that you continue providing the world with excellent content.
I would love to see him do Post Scriptum. I think he would especially like the mechanics of that game, since it has that "laying down your rifle" thing and a cool, realistic suppression system
I’m always impressed how much he can infer about pretty complex game design that most people pay no attention to. Goes to show how far game tech has come everything is represented true to visuals.
I love how Johnathan is such a gun nerd that he made sure he had the iconic slabside mag in the AK. I've gotten into collecting them and every good AK pic on reddit has a slabby mag inserted. They are extremely hard to find these days and worth up to $200 for context.
Yes and no, it’s weapon depictions are good and they all have good gunplay as well. The issue is the game itself is quite arcade-y when compared to Squad/arma
@@howdoyouturnthison7827 firing full auto normally isn't something you want to do in squad or arma. You're going to be far more accurate with single fire.

Would be really good to see red orchestra's guns, i remember being able to change barrels on MG's and use alternate sights on snipers that you don't usually see in games. Wonder how accurate those actually were.
We need more games like this. Where individuals are fragile, but teamwork is strength. Where hearing the cries of your fallen comrades is enough to trigger PTSD. Seriously, this game is a gem.
when i played payday 2 i used to love the m16, m4 and ak attachment dlc's, it allows you to mod these weapons in a way that you could turn what looks like a cheap civilian ak or ar15 into special black ops spetsnaz or cia looking assault rifles
It has an awesome arsenal but by god was the RNG for equipment was occasionally a bastard. I once went from starting character to level 20 before getting a single bloody suppressor and I only got it because my friend picked up 4 hidden packages of drugs in the level.
correction at 1:47, the AK was not intended to be a primarily full automatic weapon. if you've handled one you know when you disengage the safety, it's half position is full auto and when the safety is switched fully down, it's semi. kalashnikov did this so if a soldier has to disengage the safety in a rush, it ensures it goes to semi; what the AK was designed for. you have to deliberately set the switch to full auto in its middle position to use full auto. ian from forgotten weapons has videos covering AKs and how they work and their purpose 🙌🏼
Amazing video. Only thing to mention is the fact that the M16A1 does have reliability issues in RS2. Its not uncommon for it to jam in the middle of firing or for it to not even fire in the first place forcing you to have to un-jam/reload the gun all over again.
3:40 in arma 3 if you walk up to a wall or cover of some kind you get a passive reduce in recoil and wobble but if you press a key you can actually deploy your weapon with a bipod etc.
The rifle/weapon resting mechanic has been a part of the series since Red Orchestra Ostfront way back from the first game. A good idea that I'm surprised hasn't caught on with more games in years since.
Now: Team Fortress 2 L4D2 Killing Floor or Killing Floor 2 Far Cry 2 Red Orchestra/Rising Storm 1 Metal Gear Solid 3 Payday 2 ARMA Would love for Johnny to react to these.
usually he's pretty spot on but I gotta point him out on the M-16A1. The original M16 in vietnam was issued very early on, and served contemporaneously with the M14 as the main rifle, however most of its reliability issues were due to the facts of the chamber not being chrome lined, and the rifle being issued with ball powder instead of IMR powder, developed for use alongside the rifle, and all this alongside the original M16 being issued without cleaning kits. The A1, which was the first revision of it, was issued with a birdcage flashhider, cleaning kit, chrome lined barrel, and the engineers at Colt also adjusted the gas port to allow the rifle to function with ball powder more reliably. The malfunctions dropped off by an extreme degree by 1970.
@@thor-ericsson FC2 was a deeply flawed game, but the level of verisimilitude it presented was unreal. It wasn't a "realistic" game, but all of the gunfights felt so visceral and dangerous because of how many details were crammed into the game. In many ways it was a VR game ahead of it's time. And that presents the best way I think for the style to return: as a VR experience. Imagine the gun walls of FC2, but in VR where you can physically gear up and prepare for combat. Then the intensity of a gunfight in VR where the trees are being blown apart and splintered by explosions and bullets, where a wild fire rages across the battlefield sweeping up anyone unlucky enough to be in its path.
I keep begging for it every episode so I’m sure he’ll get to it eventually. For a while, speaking of wacky guns, my sniper rifle in game was an old Mosin Nagant M1891 with a thermal optic and computerised range finder. 😋
I agree with the others please do a part 2. This game also has other mechanics he hasn't covered like the ability to move the sights on the weapons to adjust for range. In my opinion this is one of the most realistic games in regards to weapon functionality and accuracy I have played.
THANK YOU!!! I was about to rip you a new one, with the description of video stating the M-60 was a Lmg. But in your video you actually referred to it as a GPMG. It was never designated a Lmg (which so many people mistakenly refer to it as) in the US inventory. But fortunately, I watched the video first before commenting. Yes I'm ignoring the fact you did say Lmg/GPMG just cause you qualified the GPMG part. I didn't carry the 60 back in the 60's but I did in the 80's. shes a heavy *itch, but worth her weight in gold you just got to treat her right.
Arma 3 allows for stabilizing on ledges and such without the "hooking" mechanic. Also, while I was in basic training in 2006, we did still train with bayonets, but only for one single day after we had completed pugil training. And we had two people cut their hands open. I remember during my charge through the bayonet course, I cut the nose off the training dummy. I did a slice and stab and didn't expect my bayonet to get stuck in him. A d with receiving RPG fire in a helicopter, at least in a Chinook, I've noticed the rockets tend to dance and go wildly off course. Not sure if it was faulty munitions or hitting a vortices from the downpressure of the blades. Several near-misses at the last second, though. For the underbelly, we have installed these heavy Kevlar plates above the sheet meal flooring called BAPS plates. They do a good job of stopping AK rounds fired straight up, although j have a friend who was hit in the wrist with a steel penetrator from an AK bullet that came up through a gap. It had shed its copper jacket and was mostly inert by the time it hit him, only lightly grazing and mostly just burning him. He was given a purple heart for that, though we had to convince him to accept it.
with all of this, I'm really hoping we will see Jonathans take on ArmA 2 / 3 (actually why not both) and their weapons perhabs even the new arma 3 creator dlc S.O.G Prairie Fire that takes the otherwise near future game back in time to Vietnam
He touches base on the M-16 having reliability issues in the early war, but he didn't mention that those issues were not at the fault of the gun. We have issued ammo that was too over pressured in the early war, which led to jams. But if you look up interviews with SF guys, Green Berets, SEALs, SOG, they usually say they had little no no issues with their M-16 rifles. Pretty much every issue that rifle has ever had was someone trying to use it for something it wasn't made to do.
The original Red Orchestra game had a mechanic like Jonathan speaks about around 3:12. With any weapon if you put yourself in a proper position you could reduce your recoil and stabilize your aim by resting your weapon on something. And it was anything. Side of a bunker, fence, table, window sill, pile of rubble. It was a cool mechanic. Also he speaks to having to rest a LMG on something to reload it. In the original Day of Defeat and Day of Defeat: Source, you have to deploy an MG42 or M1919 .30 Cal in order to reload it. Which is quite realistic.
BIA was one of first. But Red Orchestra 2 was really first among new generation of multiplayer shooters and i love it for the very first day. BF3 had it, but i hated random spread, it should be more lik here where gun dance more, not where guns become inaccurat themselves. Squad and Insurgency have great supression, similar to RO2 and Rising Storm 2
Yes, the ingame footage shown is all with the chinese type 56. I believe even the real one Jonathan shows us isnt russian but chinese because of the ported barrel!
Just to clarify on how to recognize chinese AK - ported barrel, full circle front sight, different front handguard pin, spike type bayonet. Thanks Brandon for this knowledge! :)
Regarding the weapon resting: Arma 3 does this, in both passive and button-press forms. Passive is quicker to get into and out of, and the button press locks you in place but offers much more stability. It's like the difference between simply resting the gun on a chest-high wall and holding the gun onto that wall.
Thanks for taking a look at our title, glad you found much to like in the weapons depicted in game!

- The BAR is accurately depicted with having two rates of fire for auto you can toggle between.
- Reloading the M14 with under 5 rounds fires actually has you use stripper clips to reload the magagazine instead of doing a mag change.
- Holding R (but not releasing) causes your avatar to check the magazine round count, depicted as a colour graphic rather than an accurate number.
- The seldom seen in games Owen, F1 L2A1 all show up on the Australian faction.

Part 2? :)
Show him stuff like the mp-40/1 and changing the mg-42 and mg-34 barrels in red orchestra 2 I think he'd like that.
Something I always liked about this game where the different ammo types. Sure, you could use shot in a double barrel shotgun but you could also go with slug rounds which is something you really done ever see in games.
Every single variant rifle from Verdun and Tannerberg
YES! those guns will really tax his expertise!
I would love to learn about the differences from various WW1 and WW2 bolt action rifles which to my untrained eye, are all the same
@@fredwilson1448 C&Rsenal is the channel for you
I love that there is a good suppression mechanic in this game with a nice and accurate selection of firearms for a Vietnam war setting. So that was a charming aspect of it to the VC.
they need to have a pt2 to this
especially because of all the interesting french and aussie weapons in this game
LOVE his terminology for extended lmg fire. "really went to town." just beautiful lol
Seeing VERIX get kicked at 4:00 is absolutely hilarious, I've played with him so many times
These are Europe servers I assume?
masta of disasta
The weapon resting/steady thing is a mechanic in ArmA as well, just not many people notice it because it’s not something that’s in your face.
Rising storm vert good yes but Insurgency is a bit better imo
I have donated to your museum and hope that you continue providing the world with excellent content.
payday 2 has a wealth of semi-obscure guns it would be dope to see him cover them and their implementation
If he took a look at ALL the obscure guns of the game, the video would last AT LEAST few hours
I would love to see him do Post Scriptum. I think he would especially like the mechanics of that game, since it has that "laying down your rifle" thing and a cool, realistic suppression system
I'd love to see Jonathan react to the Australian weapons in Rising Storm Vietnam!!!
11:47 - "Let us liberate your rice"....
I love gamers.
You beat me to it lol
"All your rice belong to us" another pretty typical joke in Rs2
YES FINALLY. Part 2 please if possible. So many iconic weapons in this game :)
I’m always impressed how much he can infer about pretty complex game design that most people pay no attention to. Goes to show how far game tech has come everything is represented true to visuals.
Agreed, i enjoy this game by its realistic features, clearly underrated
I love how Johnathan is such a gun nerd that he made sure he had the iconic slabside mag in the AK. I've gotten into collecting them and every good AK pic on reddit has a slabby mag inserted. They are extremely hard to find these days and worth up to $200 for context.
Bakes are better, fite me m8

That's the chat most of the time. Discussions about seizing, securing and protecting rice.
Long story short: This game is INSANELY REALISTIC!
Yes and no, it’s weapon depictions are good and they all have good gunplay as well. The issue is the game itself is quite arcade-y when compared to Squad/arma
@@TJ-bg4fw I don't like squad's recoil mechanic , I don't know how realistic it is because I have never fired full auto rifle.
@@howdoyouturnthison7827 firing full auto normally isn't something you want to do in squad or arma. You're going to be far more accurate with single fire.
@@themasterninja110 There is situation full auto fire is needed like supressive fire if your machine gunner is down or times that you don't have time to aim like CQC.
Yeah, it's like a highly realistic shooter, only actually fun.
We really need a part 2 to this video, so many more interesting guns in the game to be talked about!
I bet Jonathan would love Payday 2, that game has an awesome arsenal!
It does if you buy the 500 dlc packs
@@EraVulgaris- Overkill: Sssshhhhhhhhh we don't talk about that part
when i played payday 2 i used to love the m16, m4 and ak attachment dlc's, it allows you to mod these weapons in a way that you could turn what looks like a cheap civilian ak or ar15 into special black ops spetsnaz or cia looking assault rifles
It has an awesome arsenal but by god was the RNG for equipment was occasionally a bastard. I once went from starting character to level 20 before getting a single bloody suppressor and I only got it because my friend picked up 4 hidden packages of drugs in the level.
@@Mr_T_Badger yeah, the system is really not friendly for beginners. But as you progress and start graining infamy it's really nice.
correction at 1:47, the AK was not intended to be a primarily full automatic weapon. if you've handled one you know when you disengage the safety, it's half position is full auto and when the safety is switched fully down, it's semi. kalashnikov did this so if a soldier has to disengage the safety in a rush, it ensures it goes to semi; what the AK was designed for. you have to deliberately set the switch to full auto in its middle position to use full auto. ian from forgotten weapons has videos covering AKs and how they work and their purpose 🙌🏼
Part 2 please! He needs to react to Australia and south Vietnam.
Amazing video. Only thing to mention is the fact that the M16A1 does have reliability issues in RS2. Its not uncommon for it to jam in the middle of firing or for it to not even fire in the first place forcing you to have to un-jam/reload the gun all over again.
There are so many accurate guns in this game we need a part 2!
Love how informative these videos are
There is a hint at the unreliability of the M16A1, reflected in the ammo count of 18 round down loaded mags to have more reliable feeding.
Ah, interesting! I sometimes miss the HUD details depending what video format I'm watching.
reliable feeding and reduced magazine spring wear
3:40 in arma 3 if you walk up to a wall or cover of some kind you get a passive reduce in recoil and wobble but if you press a key you can actually deploy your weapon with a bipod etc.
Red Orchestra 2 Next? pretty please
I love his focus on even the most minute details and his love of the subject.
always love seeing Jonathan's face pop up on my recommended when a new one comes out♥
The rifle/weapon resting mechanic has been a part of the series since Red Orchestra Ostfront way back from the first game. A good idea that I'm surprised hasn't caught on with more games in years since.
Yeah but complex mechanics slow down productivity. CoD learned from that *sarcasm*
Now:
Team Fortress 2
L4D2
Killing Floor or Killing Floor 2
Far Cry 2
Red Orchestra/Rising Storm 1
Metal Gear Solid 3
Payday 2
ARMA
Would love for Johnny to react to these.

ARMA?
@@aaronbustamante9282 Heavy: WISH GRANTED!
usually he's pretty spot on but I gotta point him out on the M-16A1.
He needs to see the weapons, the jams, and eventually the explosions of Far Cry 2.
Yes, please. That game also had stuff like overheating machine guns and RPG backblast, though simulated to a lesser degree than in RS2.
Far Cry 2 was far ahead of it’s time, yet I feel it’s never been re-done by anyone in newer times..
@@scottbeale1825 i had more visceral gun fights in the shoot ranges on arma... and those only have plastic and paper targets...

I would love if Jonathan took a look at Payday 2's extensive and sometimes wacky arsenal.

Jonathan reacts to Squad + Post Scriptum + Beyond the Wire
Yes
THANK YOU!!! I was about to rip you a new one, with the description of video stating the M-60 was a Lmg. But in your video you actually referred to it as a GPMG. It was never designated a Lmg (which so many people mistakenly refer to it as) in the US inventory. But fortunately, I watched the video first before commenting. Yes I'm ignoring the fact you did say Lmg/GPMG just cause you qualified the GPMG part. I didn't carry the 60 back in the 60's but I did in the 80's. shes a heavy *itch, but worth her weight in gold you just got to treat her right.
You should definitely show him Verdun and Tannenberg.
Yes
Please do Post Scriptum and Squad would love to hear Jonathans take on those Games
thank you for doing the Rising storm 2 Vietnam video, honestly I really do appreciate it
with all of this, I'm really hoping we will see Jonathans take on ArmA 2 / 3 (actually why not both) and their weapons perhabs even the new arma 3 creator dlc S.O.G Prairie Fire that takes the otherwise near future game back in time to Vietnam
There's an issue with Arma 3 guns, they have no rounds in the chamber.
Jonathan's expression at 5.02 is priceless!

RS2V is still my favourite game, nice that You showed it.
Firearms expert reacts to the weapon handling mechanics of Receiver 2
He touches base on the M-16 having reliability issues in the early war, but he didn't mention that those issues were not at the fault of the gun. We have issued ammo that was too over pressured in the early war, which led to jams. But if you look up interviews with SF guys, Green Berets, SEALs, SOG, they usually say they had little no no issues with their M-16 rifles. Pretty much every issue that rifle has ever had was someone trying to use it for something it wasn't made to do.
Technically speaking the AK shown was a Chinese Type 56 assault rifle. You can tell because of the hooded front sight
You are correct. If I'm not commenting on details like that it's usually because the game is too interesting :)
Yes, the Type 56, Type 56-I and AKM all feature in Rising Storm 2 though. Each have its own advantages and disadvantages.
@@jonathanferguson1211 Thank you very much for your reply! Isnt the real one with the sign you show us actualy chinese type 56 aswell?
Jonathan, always looking fresh. And possibly being strapped at all times.
Man I'd love to see his thoughts on Enlisted's weapons. They've got some interesting ones in there, like the Mannlicher

"This is a really elegant solution to a problem." I can say I agree with that statement.
Isn’t the AK from the game a Chinese AK because of the sight that’s not split like the Eastern ones ?
Yes, the ingame footage shown is all with the chinese type 56. I believe even the real one Jonathan shows us isnt russian but chinese because of the ported barrel!
Just to clarify on how to recognize chinese AK - ported barrel, full circle front sight, different front handguard pin, spike type bayonet. Thanks Brandon for this knowledge! :)
@@marduk87 yes indeed thx to him my fellow man of culture
Regarding the weapon resting: Arma 3 does this, in both passive and button-press forms. Passive is quicker to get into and out of, and the button press locks you in place but offers much more stability. It's like the difference between simply resting the gun on a chest-high wall and holding the gun onto that wall.
Can't wait to see Wolfenstein
