A new 'mech for a new way of fighting. Obviously from those dezgra or morally flexible and highly adaptive (depending on your honour levels) Clan Wolf. Yes they made a artillery spotting 'mech. Yep that type of artillery, the big boom kind. All thanks to Khan Phelan Ward and his intimate knowledge of Inner Sphere warfare.
It's a 'mech only its designer could love. I give you the Phantom.

"Oh, I understand, Star Commander. It is a Dezgra-mobile."
The greatest wiki read by the best narrator!
Ah thanks dude! Means alot, imagine how long reading Sarna would take!?
40 tonners are always fighting uphill. Just a factor of the math the whole game was built on. I do like that Clanner 40 tonners often seem to be this odd thought experiment of "but hey, what if we made this 'mech play like the lightest 'mech?" It's like they try to out Cicada the Cicada. I mean, at least the Cicada has 2 medium lasers...
Thanks for listening dude. I've never been a graph player, I tried but my brain goes mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. All I know is when I am looking for a certain BV value or role, if its 30, 35 or 40 its all good. I don't mind a Cicada, the little guy is just an engine with legs and does more damage charging than shooting
This article actually gave me a better understanding of the Phantom. I've always loved its hunched and hooded look but never knew it was panned by it's primary market. I suppose it was the right mech for the wrong audience
Thanks for tuning! Then the mission is complete, educate Mechjocks. It does look robust and solid but yeah it really didn't take off by all looks. We'll have to wait and see how it does in the Ilclan era.
I love the Phantom. Configs C and H are great for flanking and harassing snipers and missile boats. E is a very cheap and effective light mech hunter. The Prime Config is a great option for missions that require electronic warfare systems.
Thanks for listening. 6 heavy small lasers with targeting computer. That's pretty scary, not sure how it stacks up cost wise to a pulse boat.
@@battletopia The problem is that you just cannot take the Ice Ferret D as a comparison. The Ice Ferret D is perfect in every regard. There is no match for it but that doesn't mean all other scouts or flankers are bad.
Ohhh there's a bold statement. I love battletech for this very reason, the certainty people have in their 'mechs 🤣. AMS and 4x pulse lasers...Hmmm this might warrant further investigation. The cost is high though but it looks good on paper. I'd probably take it over the phantom...maybe... It's hard to choose between your babies isn't it?!
@@battletopia I've won some tournaments here in Germany and whenever it was legal, the Ice Ferret D was part of my tournament squad. I even played one when I became German National Champion in 2017, though I had to take the A config. I managed to fire all 45 LB-X shots in the final match. :D Yeah, it's one of my 'babies'. ;)
The Coyotl D can do pretty much anything the Phantom can do but with INFINITELY more style.
On top of that, it's less expensive (in both C-bills and BV) and, at the end of the day, it's still a Coyotl that can be quickly refitted into many, many asskicking configurations.
The Phantom's fast but it's got nothing on the OG.
Thanks for tuning in! I did not know they revisited the Coyotl design 300 years after it was essentially abandoned. Looking at it the only thing that may put people off is the supercharger. Some of us are not blessed by the dice gods often when it comes to expensive, exploding technology that requires 3+ on the first roll :-D
Well, to be fair, Sarna is pretty much the ONLY BT Wiki. At least the only SERIOUS one.
Good enough reason for me! Thanks for tuning in
