    Each game I tell myself I won't be as disappointed as last time, but I keep proving myself wrong watching Wales. Where do we start? Lineout's, scrums, unforced errors, no attacking threat whatsoever? List goes on.
    But my main concern is with the coaching staff? 8 games in now and we don't look any different nor seem to have built any momentum, Gatland has got to start taking responsibility and change things as we were still awful to be brutally honest.
    The England and All Blacks match was a massive difference and look how far the English have progressed in a few short months. Either side would comprehensively beat us and the excuses we're putting out are very quickly getting old. Hard to say where do we go from here.

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah agree with everything you say really and as you pointed out. The coaching staff are proving that they haven’t been able to impact the results on the field and Schmidt managed to give Australia a bit of directing in just 4 training sessions. Make you wonder doesn’t it 🤷🏻‍♂️

      yes let's start with Humphreys - bring back McBryde - to be honest let's start again with a whole new WRU, they've been killing the game here since the 1980's/90's. I just wasted £26 on a now tv/sky subscription - will never learn bois bach 😞

      Just wish us fans would be given an explanation as to why these choices are made by the coaches? I still don't understand how only 3 Ospreys players have made the cut when they've been the best team in Wales by a distance.

    Tompkins got fucking skinned on the outside. Why can't we try Kieran Williams with Grady on his outside? We need some dynamism in the centres.
    I thought that 1-10 were decent, although we are missing Jac Morgan and really need him back in the team. Dewi really needs to sort his lineout-throwing, and he was unfortunate to drop the ball a couple times, but he was physical and just needs some game time under his belt in my opinion.
    Hathaway has potential and I believe will settle into that role well.
    I thought that Wales could have won that game. Wainright was almost through for a try, and our disallowed try was really what handed Australia the win. In my opinion, Wales will win the second test by around 10 points.

      It’s not the players that I worry about it’s the lack of a clear game plan or ideas to breakdown the defences by the coaching staff. They just seems like no bright ideas coming out of that group.

    Hi Christian, to me this was like an old Wales v Australia game from years ago when we played and lost by 1 to 6 points it was a neck and neck game till we got to the 65-70 mins and Australia just took it and walked away with a 9 point win. To be honest I thought this game could have gone our way, Australia were not at there best but enough to beat us and I thought they could have scored more towards the end of the game. Gut about Christ Tshiunza try denied but that's the rules. Lets move on and learn from this game, good luck for next Saturday. The disappointment is strong so I’m struggling to see any positives from this game right now. Very disheartened.
    People keep using the excuse that they’re young lads who are being developed together but this squad has been together pretty much since September. And some of the new guys aren’t even that young. They’re like mid 20s.
    I feel sorry for Wainwright. He’s our best player By a country mile. He’s getting himself in the thick of it constantly because nobody else is prepared to take the ball on. Everyone is shying away. Gatland has obviously picked Grady at 12 to use as a crash ball centre but then they never give him the ball.
    I don’t rate Watkins.
    Our set piece is garbage. Wainwright saved us a lot of scrum penalties by being so quick to pick up the ball.
    I can see us losing next week and even losing to the reds. Then we have Fiji, Aus and SA in November and the blue teams away in the 6 nations. There’s a good chance that we will lose our next 10 games 😢

    Some positives. Thomas decent at 10 much moreso than Costelow, Wainwright many strong carries. Some negatives: lots of errors in the first half, our scrum outmatched by the Aussies.

    I don't watch as much club rugby as I used to, and I'm just wondering are any of the regions playing the type of rugby you would like to see the National side playing? If there is, are you able to explain how they are achieving this? Is it different players, better coaching staff, less pressure, or a combination of all these things?

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  3 месяца назад

      Well Cardiff play a nice brand of rugby where they manage to get the ball wide and make breaks ect it’s just they’ve been very bad at converting their chances and only won 4 games all year so I can’t say it was successful 😂
      The ospreys have been winning by a dominant pack especially the scum and that aloud them to play a bit more as the season ran down and they started needing bonus points
      I think coaching is the main thing. It seams like Booth knows the teams identity and how they want to play and it seams as the players are all on the same page too. Make you of corse wonder why there aren’t more ospreys in the team especially the front row one Smith Parry(we know why) and Botha?

      I know this is totally different gravy, but the way in which the U20's are playing at the moment seems totally different. They appear to be playing on feeling and instinct, rather than structure, and it is so good to watch.
      Structure goes out the window when you can't win a lineout - a problem Wales have had since I started watching Wales when Chris Wyatt was in the second row.

    Realistically this was likely our best chance of a win before the next 6N, and we never looked like winning it. It was a poor match between two poor teams, but there was no arguing who deserved to win. I think I'd rather watch reset scrums that watch us attack at the moment... Yes there were individual positives again but they are ringing hollow now, there's only one positive that counts when you haven't won a game all year. As you say, we only have one trick, and we're not great at even that. We pick a crash-ball #12 and then give all the second passes to #8 and #2. I think if I understood what we were trying to do, I'd have more patience with our failure to do it.

    Has to be some of the worst, most utterly toothless naieve attacking play I've ever seen. That is not international standard AT ALL. It's impossible to overstate how ill prepared that Wallabies side was, but in the end I don't believe it was that difficult for them.
    You'd expect Australia to be given a decent rub of the green considering the financial investment in marketing Lions tours etc. but I thought we had nothing to complain about but our own ineptness. Gatland making excuses and being quite obnoxious towards Lauren Jenkins was difficult viewing for me.
    The sight of Alex King overtly excluded from the top table, while that legendary man manager Rob Howley was firmly ensconced in the butty zone, seemed indicative of serious cultural issues to me.........Sam Parrys'early self imposed exit speaks volumes.

  • @matthewharries5895
    @matthewharries5895 3 месяца назад +2

    The game plan is clear from wales. It’s Warrenball. But Warrenball only works when you have good discipline and your scrum is squeaky clean. Wales look good. They kick well and defend well. However, a few young players just make the wrong decisions at the wrong time and go away from the game plan. An example is the Tom Wright try. Josh Hathaway kicked the ball away from the chase this allowed the counter attack that led to the try. Tompkins probably should have tackled him but it’s Tompkins.
    The only option at the minute is to keep progressing with this group of players. They need to learn discipline and patience. They don’t have it yet.

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, you’re right about discipline and experience ect. I think it also boils down to we just don’t have the physical presence on the pitch to play Warren ball anymore and outside of that idea there’s nothing else and the coaches need to adapt to this because it’s clearly not working.

    • @matthewharries5895
      @matthewharries5895 3 месяца назад

      @@TheWelshSportsPodcast I don’t think physicality is the problem. In 2018-2019 era wales won games even when they were getting outmuscled. And they managed to make it to number 1 in the world, grand slam and a semi final only just loosing to eventual champions South Africa.
      The game plan against Australia was working very well. The kicking was very good, defence was very good. Apart from the Hathaway kick that led to the wright try wales kicking game was very good. That’s what was keeping them in the game.
      The two massive killers are discipline and the scrum. If wales want to start winning games again. Those are the two things that needed to be sorted above all else.
      Experience is huge. When we look at the wales team in 2019. Look at the wealth of experience there was. Experience enough to know the game plan will work, you just have to stick to it. And when a mistake is made you have to recover from it. Wales at the moment lack the experience to stick to the game plan and the maturity to recover from a mistake. This will take some time. This is what Gatland was talking about “having to go through some more pain”
      Gatland knew we would loose a lot of games this year because the players need to learn.
      Everyone keeps talking about the attack. The attack isn’t as important as the other issues. Wales have never been an unbelievable attacking team but they have still won championships and been successful. They just need the patience to make territory and pressure and turn that into points.

    Well that went as expected to be honest Though it was closer than i thought it would be Wales still look totally clueless and struggle to get over the gain line B.Thomas was ok at fly half But still don't see the point of W.Gatland picking him there As come the Autumn he will have players like G.Anscome and C.Sheedy to chose from S.Costelow just isn't international class at this time Gatland must be using the tour just to see who of Wales talent can actually step up or at least has the potential to step up to test level So far the picking have been very sparse A very disappointing match to watch aswell As both teams where stop start and struggled for go forward ball and seemed to lack intensity Next week Gatland neds to play players in their preferred postilions

    Credit to archie for his 1st international start. Going up against slipper was always going to be a huge battle. He was outclassed in the scrum but his work around the field was decent.
    Tbf the Welsh pack isn't lacking quality, we are struggling with props but with 2027 being the goal. It's a good foundation to build on with such a small talent pool to select from. Players like faletau, Lydiate, tips, jac Morgan etc all unavailable.
    I love Dewi lake but his throw in is the weakest part of his game.
    Watkins and dyer seem less comfortable at this level the more they play.
    Something about grady I can't decide on. All the attributes of a world class player like sunny bill Williams but seems to have the mentality of gavin Henson. Seems like he's a few slices short of a full loaf
    As for the overall result, can we stop acting like we go there every year and give the aussies a pasting. Wales have only won 14 games out of 47.

    The answer to creativity is playing players that deserve it, eddie james at 12, ratti should be there, morgan morse and morris should be there, nicky smith should be there too. Its clearly the coaches at this point. One out percentage rugby, low risk play for points. It worked a few years back but rugby has moved on. Grady isnt a rugby player, hes an athlete who plays rugby. Hes no rugby brain and constantly bites in on D. These are all decisions made by the coaches. Look how long our lineout has been rubbish for and weve had 4 hookers and 10 2nd rows who all have 85% + lineout success at club level so clearly the coaching is causing that. I could go on but ill end with shmit having 4 training sessions with the Australian players and they show more structure in attack than our team who have had months together if you amalgamte the camps. #gatlandandcoout

    There’s no innovation from Gatland at all. I feel we’re flogging a dead horse with Grady. I just don’t see a rugby player in him. Big guy who doesn’t hit the line at pace, no positional sense defensively. I’d rather try Thomas and James in the centres. Lake can’t throw so why not see if one of the props can? Try something new. Lake offers a lot but his throwing is bad and showing little improvement.

    Its very difficult watching Wales, they are trying hard but the balance is not there a few positives Christ was good and Archie, the rolling maul is Wales only weapon right now, but the hard truth is this the quality players are not there, we have no outstanding 10 12 13, a very important link, our game plan is predictable pods of forwards take it up recycle then out to the backs very often we don't gain ground we lose it, it ends with a turnover or loose kick straight back to the opposition, we are giving away to many penalties and losing the ball at vital times in the game.
    Any side playing like this will never win, where and what we do I just don't know, there are very few options In all honesty I cannot see where our next win will come from.
