- We get project Parts Sled out of the shop for a couple rips across the backyard.
This is our take on if Polaris would have built a 97 SPX as a wedge body snowmobile

Those LRM pipes…love the sound of them. I have them on my 96. Can just listen to that music all day. If you trail ride bring ear plugs. They buzz your ears when running a while.

OMG, that thing is sweeeeet!!! Nice work. Our trails were open for 10 days, haven’t been this nice in years, rode 220 miles. It will be 40s this week and it will be all gone 😢. What a screwed up season. Cheers.

Damn that’s a unit, to bad you didn’t have more snow I’m surprised I’m up north of you guys a few hours just before the border we have a little more snow but not a lot. She is a sweeet unit!
Our cabin is just a couple hours north. Some snow there but not enough to waste my time to ride on.

Wow! Usually you guys seem to get more snow than us here in southern Ontario. It wasn't looking good here, then a big polar vortex came in and our trails were open for a little over a week. Now the vortex is clearing out and the el nino's keeping thing above freezing and raining for the next week at least. What the heck?

Again a job well done, not much snow in eastern North Dakota either , I have a trip planed to the UP beginning of March, fingers crossed they will still have some snow
Last time I checked, some areas in UP Michigan had trails shut down because there is simply not enough snow.
I hope I march there will be some good snow!

Ive noticed a familiar pattern with everyone of the triples restored and rebuilt at you shop. They all lift skis on open throttle!! And tjere really nice machines. Great work guys. You guys are the tripple masters.

The stock Spx jetting will get you rolling, but one thing I’ve found out with my ultra and those lrms is it’s STUPID fat up top, you’ll get it all figured out once you get more snow and are able to make some testing!

Keep building these bad ass rigs. CR125 bars cut down and rolled look a lot like CR80/85 expert bars. Just having straight bar makes Worlds! of difference. Even without the rise. Have you tried a cat/wildwood master on any of the wedges yet? Got all the go! Need some whoa!! now!

Awesomeness Todd & crew, beautiful build! SPX boat anchor should've been in the Wedge, although they did sell a ton of them for MY '97. I'm building a similar sled from a '97 Ultra SP, with a '00 XCR 8 engine. Pipes are the issue now, so its gone on the back burner.
That should be a rocket ship when it's done

Beautiful sled nice job, the skid looks tight get the scissor stop working more loosen the socks and blocks for some transfer but depends on what you ride on really but i would try a few different skid settings i think it can go with less ski pressure too IMO one clean ULTRA

The Polaris Ultra is a highly underrated snowmobile. I still haven't figured out why they had such a short production run.
They introduced the xcr and went away with it for some reason

That sled looks and sounds good. I got to ride 3 days here in Pennsylvania we had good trails temps were in single digits. Few days ago now its in the 40's and raining doesn't look good for the next 2 weeks

Wow Todd! That sled is so awesome. Of all the sleds I've seen on your channel, all of the builds, this is by far my favorite. You did everything Ultra SPX in a wedge chassis, except for the tail light. SPX is supposed to have the wrap tail light. It looks good on a wedge imo. Why not? Just curious.
I really was trying to make it all wedge. In 97 they had three ultra models. The spx aggressive, ultra sp Xtra 10 wedge and the ultra Xtra 12 wedge. The wedge all have the flat tail night. Also I've never been a fan of the wrap around light.

You should be careful with the fit of the lower end of the SPX cylinders, the shell in the original spx 680/700 cylinders is duralumin and cracks if the fit is at all bad. I have some of those spx cylinders, as well as 800 triple ves cylinders.
You’ve got that old girl hooking and turning on grass. Bet it’ll haul and scare you on good hard,single track, tight woods trails! What’re you running for handlebars? I ran Honda Mini-MX bike CR 80 expert bars on mine, straightish bars with some rise. More leverage and less knee banging. Narrow enough to not snag limbs like a full size MX bike handlebar
Cr 125 bars and I cut 1 inch off each side. About 2.5 inches of rise and a couple inches forward
