Bro you have the most detailed vid of all the little querks and duhickies you need to get thru an LS swap nobody says half of what you've said in 2 vids 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you bro! We noticed when researching this seemed like it was gonna be straightforward and easy and we’ve ran into a few things that no one talks about that we have had to find out the hard way. Glad it’s useful info that’s the goal!
Yes! You either notch the passenger side of the frame for the factory truck location compressor. I wasn’t comfortable with that so I planned on doing the high mount kit
Hey all, I just changed the motor mounts on my 91 and I found a way to change them out without messing with your suspension. First off, I had the engine out. Im sure it’s a lot harder to do with the engine still in lol. Anyway, you take a 10” extension, a 3” extension, a universal, the socket, and a ratchet, all 3/8” drive. You can fit all that up through the frame between the frame and lower control arm bushing. It does take a little maneuvering but once you get it on the backing nut, loosen the mounting bolts and bam. I changed mine in 15 minutes a piece. Hope this helps out!
Gary, he’ll yeh that works with those 3/8” extensions. The top one was a little tricky but they all came out easy enough Thanks for that info No way I was gonna take my front end out to change them.
Try this. Lift the truck at the frame only. That will leave juuuust enough room between the A-arm and the frame to get a swivel in there. I did this yesterday.
Really good video--I'm changing out motor mounts on a 6.5 TD that I've been restoring. It uses very similar clamshells and your tips are right on...the issues are the same--just a lot heavier engine...lol. I have access to a lift and its prepped--the scary part comes when we hoist the engine...Thanks!
I did this shit, last year. An absolute pain in the ass but i got it with the right tools. I went ahead and put Energy Suspension Polyurethane bushings in too.
It was an ultra pain. Energy suspension makes solid stuff, great choice! We’re doin a drop kit that comes with control arms so we just slapped ours back together for the time being.
Omg bro I been looking back and forth on the web and not one damn video I’ve seen that the 5.7 engine mount would work, now I’m over taking my motor out twice cause it’s not aligning right with the aftermarket mounts, smh but thank you for letting me know, 5.7 v8 engine mounts to ls engine. I’m having a fitment issue with the aftermarket headers I bought
Oh man, I can't thank you enough! I was thinking of doing the same thing of lowering the arm, but I just needed to have that reassurance. Liked and sub! Keep it up!
yeah.. just did that on my 89 c2500.. make sure there are no burrs, or rough edges on the a arm bushings, or on the frame around the bolt holes.. or no matter what you do.. they wont go back.. had a few on the bolt holes that i tried file down, nope.. then used a saw zaw to get the burr down .. was just enough of edge from removing the a arm bolts that the bushing would not fit..
No need to do any of that, just use a 1-1/4" hole saw in the front of the cross member, then use a box end wrench to put each nut in place. Old trick from Camaros, cutlass, Malibu's, s-10, to various 2wd trucks. Don't have to touch the suspension at all.
I might be able to get my hands on a local 383. What mounts would I need to put into a 97 sierra that originally had a V6? Can I take the front assembly and reuse it like I could with the vortec 350?
Don’t remember the part numbers but just got in the parts store and say you got a 97 c1500 with the 5.7 v8 and say you need the motor mounts and they’ll get you right
I just cut the old ones off with a grinder and was able to tighten 2 bolts on each v8 mount without removing control arms and then put a few weld on them lol
I’m not 100% sure you might check the forums. I think you’d be fine, might just depend on where all your front diff stuff is, might need a different oil pan or headers, not too sure.
Hey I'm here for some information if anyone could help. This video was very helpful while trying to learn how to get those mounts in. I have a couple questions. I would be trying to put a 70s 350 in this model of truck is it basically the same situation with those mounts as an LS engine just different engine mounts? Another question is would there be clearance for the oil pan or would a different oil pan be needed due to v6 and v8. I would assume not since 4.3 and 5.7 are the same engine minus a couple cylinders. Also would it be easier to use a TH350 transmission or would the manual 5 speed. I'm not a complete rookie but I'm definitely not a master mechanic either.
Gotta save the hardware to bolt the replacement in with. unless you wanna weld the mounts on but I don't think thats a great idea either unless it's solid mounts for like a race setup.
Well what I would do is get the Dirty dingo engine mounts and they let you slide the engine 2” forward or aft. I would leave your 5mt and driveline in stock location and then try to drop the engine in and see if you can make it happen without moving the trans
thats mainly why I was asking what you did I kind of figured.. I'm going to go with dirty dingo style mounts but with solid frame mounts I appreciate the reply thank you! @@MattyXBuilds
The V6 mounts use a bushing style mount that bolts onto the block. The V8 style mounts have bushings on the frame side of the mount. They aren’t solid if they’re OEM style
Not 100% sure but I believe the v8 mounts are the same whether it’s 5.0 or 5.7. I wanna say only difference is bores so external engine should be the same
Wait I thought you said it would clear?I have a stock 5.3 with ac pump at the bottom was gonna buy the same mounts you put on the frame and engine and what your saying is the ac still won’t clear is that right?
@@dean1627 Not without notching the frame. I used an R4 compressor with a top inside mount and fabricating a log manifold so it will clear the R4. Mount I'm using is an ebay piece, Nice NC R4 upper mount. Standard logs will NOT clear it as well.
Did you use your stock transmission? I have a v6 doing a 4.8 LS and I’m having my stock 4L60e rebuilt and was going to install my LS with the ict billet mounts which are supposed to put the LS in the stock location as the 5.7 did you use your stock trans and adjust your engine further back?

What Was The Part Number At Autozone For The Mounts ?
Recommended tools, 15mm wrench, 15mm socket, 23 mm socket, crescent wrench, LOTS of cussing.
23? Lol

One way to do it a bit safer.. use coil spring compressor tool.. then lca bolts. No need to disconnect any ball joints, spindle etc 👍🏾
