SO TRUE you feel the songs and understand them better; like "Love's Not For Me" for example. Holy crap. That song leaves you hallow and heartbroken with its truth. As a kid I just thought the music was fun to bop to, you listen to the lyrics and appreciate the variety of genres more now.
YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN ..I remember watching this first time circa 1983/84 ...just before the LA Olympics of 1984 in Stafford,UK.Here I am 43 in 2024... rocking to 15:31
I’m 40 and I’m listening to this with my 7yo boy. I got this in a Christmas stocking when I was about 5 and it was a Postman Pat video in the case. My Nan went straight down to Woolworths the next day and got it exchanged. The movie stuck with me ever since and got many many replays. An awesome movie and an amazing soundtrack indeed.
I can't believe this movie and soundtrack were made over four decades ago... I'm from Germany, was born in 95 and remember my Grandpa's wife from America visited us and gifted me a VHS tape of this movie. I watched it probably about a hundred times and every time I did, felt like I was escaping the real world for just a while and go to a different place, a magical place. With incredible music, animation and storytelling. I like to think this movie sparked my love for good music and films and it still holds a special place in my heart. A true masterpiece of animation with the perfect soundtrack! Thank you Graham Gouldmann and Steven Lisberger, who also created my favorite science-fiction world with TRON!
I'm from germany, born in 85 .. yes.. that's exactly what this piece of cultural history is .. I want to live there .. always wanted to, still do, I've dreamed of it sometimes over the decades :)
Also from Germany, I watched this movie in the theater 1980 and fell in love in particular with Rene's song. This song with it's melancholic and haunting tune followed me through my life and one day I had to make my decision for my future and took a huge leap of faith. As tough as it was, over two decades later, my lioness never let me regret my decision to follow her over 4,000 miles as she became my personal gold medal. So yes, this song had quite an impact on me and my life. We just had our silver wedding anniversary. Thank you, Graham.
Considering the songs were written by the same guy who wrote "Heart Full of Soul", "Bus Stop" and "No Milk Today" to name a few, we wouldn't expect anything less than perfection.
Oh my god, I am tearing up. I never thought I'd ever hear these songs again! I remember yelling at my mom to be quiet as I recorded them with my giant black 80s tape recorder when I was 7 :D
Kristy Lattanzio that love song gets to me everyytime...it's about life...finding love despite your goals...."but where are you" so Beautiful! "With you I can run forever "!!😍😍
I'm a 95 kid from Switzerland and one day in the early 2000s my parents caught this movie on TV and recorded it for me. Remembering this film and the music feels like remembering a magical time when I stepped into a magical place, a long, long time ago. I just bought the German DVD version and I'm so happy such a thing even exists. Can't wait to watch it with my friends and hide my face because I will be crying.
You can tell that Graham was at the top of his game and really put the time into this. There isn't a throwaway on this entire soundtrack - just an insanely talented guy 'going for it'
same. Haven't watched it in more than 20 years now, but I can still vividly remember the (in hindsight pretty psychedlic) running montage in the marathon category.
Seeing all the comments mentioning crying to this soundtrack...I don't feel so alone. Just watched this movie for the 1,000th time with my wife tonight..."With You I Can Run Forever" is our anthem
I'm listening to this as background at work and tearing up from Born to Lose while trying to do my job. That song always hits me hard because of everything I've been though, including relearning how to walk after back surgery.
I grew up with this as a kid in the early 2000's simply cause my mom saw it at a video store and thought it'd be cute for us I loved it and now that I am a musician I have taken lots of inspiration from this sound track and I jam to this all the time now
Animalympics is the creation of Steven Lisberger, who wondered what it would be like if the animals got together to compete against one another. He even has a voice cameo as Dean Wilson, the body-surfing otter. Lisberger is better known as the writer and director of the original TRON for Disney, which was originally conceived as another "what-if" idea - what if a guy fell into cyberspace and had to fight his way out? The man's a genius...
I first saw Animalympics around 1983 or 1984 when I was around 8 or 9. Such a wonderful cartoon that has stayed with me for life. I'm now in my 40s and I just watched it on dvd today on this hot sunny bank holiday in London. My favourite songs are, We've Made It to the Top, Away From It All, Rene's Song and With You I Can Run Forever. I also love the African sound of Kit Mambo's song. I wouldn't trade the era I grew up in for all the money in the world.
They should actually play the music from this movie at the next Olympic games. 'Go For It' and 'Z.O.O.' should be played at opening ceremony because well, it is a great build up and the actual title is appropriate. The final song at the closing ceremony should be 'We've Made it to the Top' with pictures and highlights of various athletes who have won the gold medal and such. It would be a nice memorial to all the fun they had and it would make everybody sad that it is all over and make everyone want the next one to come swiftly. Who is with me on this idea?
I entered a competition as a kid in the local paper, first prize some jeans, second prize the vinyl version of this soundtrack (which I still have) In restrospect I'm pretty sure looking back this was the first prize!
On of the best animated movies ever. I loved it as a kid. It was one of those things that taught me English. As a kid in the 80s, the special effects and everhing about his movie hit right home!
Me music is really something. I listen even to it this day, that's how catchy and good it is. It's that sunbeam through a dark cloud and I just have to love it!!
This movie influenced my childhood so much. Yes, it's an animated film but especially the soundtrack combined with the scenes make the movie worth to watch. Especially the lyrics of "Born to lose" and "Love's not for me" tell us much about life and choices. If you didn't see the movie so far, don't miss it!
Blame Universal Music for it. They bought out BOTH A&M and Mercury Records and unless Graham Gouldman retained the master tapes, those tapes were likely a victim of the 2008 Universal vault fire. I am going to try and contact Graham Gouldman to see if a reissue would be possible.

It honestly boils down to the dislike of the Russians at the height of the cold war so this wasn't seen in its intended release because the USA boycotted. It is sad but it is better that we can enjoy it now than it be buried like other cartoons made during war time.

I never grew up with this movie but I watched it a few months ago after seeing Saberspark’s video, and now I wish I did. It’s such an underrated movie and the soundtrack is amazingly good, you can tell so much passion went into making it. I hope people continue giving this movie and this album the attention it deserves :3
An under-appreciated classic killed by running out of money late on during production and therefore stopped from becoming the global phenomenon that it deserved to be.
With you i can run forever, With you i can run forever, ‘Cause you gotta be my inspiration.... Side by side through every nation We ride the world just like a roller coaster As we take each road and we take each turn you bowl me over ‘Cause you gotta be my inspiration Together we can run forever Through all the seasons we’ll keep goin’ on Through the wind and rain and the morning dew It doesn’t matter baby where we are With you i can run forever With you i can run forever We see the bright lights of the city The colours change they re-arrange themselves In different patterns But it’s too crowded in the city And so we leave it all behind Go on to other places With you i can run forever With you i can run forever There’s nothing we can’t win together With you i can run forever With you i can run forever With you i can run forever
38 here and I've been watching this movie since I was a kid. I have this soundtrack committed to memory forever. It didn't need to slap this hard but Graham did that for us and for that I am grateful.
Guitar chords for 'Z.O.O' so you can strum along to this absolute banger. F(with open G string) C F(openG) C G Fanfare bit: A B A B D E D D G A G A Lead guitar bit : E B C#m A E B C#m A E A E then back to F(open G) and so on. You're welcome
And now it's 2020...time for the Olympic Games in Tokyo! 40 years after this fantastic film... Almost 10 years ago I found the old LP of this soundtrack in Prague/Czech Republic in a used LP records/CD shop by accident...incredible. What a coincidence!! Greetings from Germany!
I LOVED this movie as a kid. I watched it last night for the first time in years (so happy it's here on RUclips). This morning I woke up with 'With you I could run forever' stuck in my head. The music in this movie is so wonderful. 💕
If anyone is wanting to rewatch it but having trouble finding it anywhere online, it’s on Archive.org. Just search Animalympics and it’s right there! I just rewatched it yesterday and man, it was a punch to the gut of nostalgia. My brother and I loved this movie.
loved this movie as a kid and 30 years later finally getting to share it with one of my kids..... Hoping to pass on what real cartoons were..... The real music ........
This is a Masterpiece! The soundtrack of my childhood. Beautiful songs and uplifting music. Perfection 😎 . Update: As a child it was my favourite movie and the wonderful music was imprinted in my heart. These days it's also my kids favourite movie (purchased the DVD) ❤📽🎼🙏 #animalympics #withyouicanrunforever
I became a 10cc fan as a boy in 1975. When the Amimalympics Soundtrack was released the record was fairly common (white cover US pressing) but the movie was unavailable for viewing. I first saw it on The Disney Channel as a young man. I loved it..34 years later I still love the movie and soundtrack.
+Jerry Mariano Glad you like the album, I loved remastering it. :) I actually saw the movie on a local TV channel in Ohio in the late 80s. My grandmother recorded it and I wore out the tape. UAV had copies and I took one of those. Later I acquired a few copies of the German DVD release. I still hope for a proper Blu-Ray in the US.
+ChrisKewl there is a group in California right now trying to create a full remasted copy of the original film with pieces of the film from different copies that already exist. I get to see some of the progress at a special showing they did at a furry conversation in California. one of they guys that helped with the original film was even there to do a interview and Q&A.
+ChrisKewl I have not talked to them in a bit, but if I can get in touch with them, I'm sure that would appreciate it. The remastering is part of a project to preserve works that make their mark on the furry community as a whole. they have one of the largest arcive collection of furry art work, litterateur and films. the remasting of Animalympics would be a huge accomplishment in my opinion, especially since it's being done by a private collection group.
I still have the movie on vhs and now that it's on here I can watch it all the time!!! I loved it and thought and still think the soundtrack and movie are genius! Thank u so much for this. I listened to this album on the way home tonight!
I fucking loved this movie as a kid, must have watched it hundreds of times, Favorite part was love's not for me, Such a brilliant movie. Saw it few days ago, found it on yt in good quality. Don't have the vhs no more. 20 years since i saw it, Still loved it.
Oh my, how I love the music and the film! watched it again and again and again as a kid. nice and fun movie with a brilliant collection of different music genres and styles. It was a perfect symbiosis of animated movie + fitting soundtrack. It also introduced me to "psychedelics", the movie itself was huge tribute to psychedelic experiences, like the otter jumping from the kickboard into a psycho swim in the ocean, the skiing boar transforming into a machine or the goat hallucinating all the shits in the marathon. Definitely one of my absolute favourites of my childhood. Now that I speak of and remember the movie: everything's so good, I'll go watch Animalympics right now haha cu
I'm in my 20s and LOVE this film. When I was a kid my brother tried to turn the VCR off whilst I was watching this and he found out not to annoy a girl 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you. Amazing soundtrack to a brilliant move. Watched it hundreds of times as a child on vhs off the TV. Showed my wife a few years ago and she is totally hooked. Love Rene's Song especially. :)
The beauty of this soundtrack is that it hits harder as an adult than it ever did when I was a kid!
100% agree
Yeah Renee's tracks bloody brutal
I'm training the Olympics!
Indeed

It's almost criminal that this soundtrack isn't featured on Amazon music or Spotify
Agreed but the remaster is on Apple Music. :) I don't see a cent for it but it's nice that it is there.

I did not know Dean was voiced by Linsberger. That's pretty interesting. For suure.
Man I had no idea! No wonder I love them both so much!
Wilson.....as in, beach boy wilson?
Fun fact: the guy in neon before the opening credits of the fill was a local radio mascot and was named Tron, the very same from the film.
Oh that’s cool!
The otter was my favourite character
This is the greatest childhood nostalgia I know of on RUclips. Nothing else hits quite like this.

@@childrenofminervaofficial4316 Yes, he does not have the masters.
@@ChrisKewl Damn!!!!
Listening to this had me in goosebumps Omg I loved watching this and to hear this soundtrack THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING🙏
I totally agree. That's why I remastered it. :)
This has to be a contender as one of the greatest animated movie soundtracks of all time!
Along with Prince of Egypt.
33:00 Y'all remember that HUGE bison shot putter from North America spit then heft that ball to Kingdom Come? I love that part.
An under-appreciated classic killed by running out of money late on during production and therefore stopped from becoming the global phenomenon that it deserved to be.
The boycotting of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow was another factor in the film failing.
Thanks a lot. I was looking for this album since 30 years….
“With you I can run forever” was my jam, it has that peter frampton kind of vibe. I love this movie so much.
With you i can run forever, With you i can run forever, ‘Cause you gotta be my inspiration.... Side by side through every nation
We ride the world just like a roller coaster
As we take each road and we take each turn you bowl me over
‘Cause you gotta be my inspiration
Together we can run forever
Through all the seasons we’ll keep goin’ on
Through the wind and rain and the morning dew
It doesn’t matter baby where we are
With you i can run forever
With you i can run forever
We see the bright lights of the city
The colours change they re-arrange themselves
In different patterns
But it’s too crowded in the city
And so we leave it all behind
Go on to other places
With you i can run forever
With you i can run forever
There’s nothing we can’t win together
With you i can run forever
With you i can run forever
With you i can run forever
I love Kit and Rene! Their song (With You I Can Run Forever) is terrific!!
Thank you for sharing! Love Animalymics! Love this soundtrack!
Same here, favorite animated movie of this time period. I love it even better than Secret of NIMH.
38 here and I've been watching this movie since I was a kid. I have this soundtrack committed to memory forever. It didn't need to slap this hard but Graham did that for us and for that I am grateful.
Love this soundtrack and best of all rediscovered movie on tubi

Almost 10 years ago I found the old LP of this soundtrack in Prague/Czech Republic in a used LP records/CD shop by accident...incredible. What a coincidence!! Greetings from Germany!
Einfach ein toller Film. ❤
@Retro Mania Der Soundtrack ist das Beste am Film.
@Retro Mania Habe das in einem eigenen Kommentar schon so gesagt. 👌🏿
@Retro Mania Ich habe das auch nicht als Kritik gesehen. 😅

I LOVED this movie as a kid.
I watched it last night for the first time in years (so happy it's here on RUclips).
This morning I woke up with 'With you I could run forever' stuck in my head.
The music in this movie is so wonderful. 💕
OMG this is phenomenal, as is the movie! The music on this is so catchy and nearly all the songs get stuck in your heard for hours afterwards!
A masterpiece by Graham Gouldman. I love the music and the movie. Nostalgia.
Good memories, watched this every time it came on and was always taken in by the music.
Thank You for posting this album. I bought this 40yeahs ago! from Japan.
How I wish this movie can be on Netflix.👍👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If anyone is wanting to rewatch it but having trouble finding it anywhere online, it’s on Archive.org. Just search Animalympics and it’s right there! I just rewatched it yesterday and man, it was a punch to the gut of nostalgia. My brother and I loved this movie.
I remember this movie! And I loved the soundtrack! Thank goodness for posting this!
Animalympics needs to be seen again! Put it on a streaming service, or back on cable! It's too good to just fade away!

This soundtrack is so inspiring!!!! It fits the movie perfectly. "We've Made It to the Top" is my favorite song.
This is a Masterpiece! The soundtrack of my childhood. Beautiful songs and uplifting music. Perfection 😎
.
+Jerry Mariano It was held back from release in 1980 until 1984 due to the U.S not participating in the Moscow Olympics :-)
+Lotus .Wolf I'd be willing to give my remastered music over to them if that helps.
+ChrisKewl I have not talked to them in a bit, but if I can get in touch with them, I'm sure that would appreciate it. The remastering is part of a project to preserve works that make their mark on the furry community as a whole. they have one of the largest arcive collection of furry art work, litterateur and films. the remasting of Animalympics would be a huge accomplishment in my opinion, especially since it's being done by a private collection group.
thank you for this upload. brings back to many happy memories. my favourite song is "with you I can run forever". God bless
Listening to the soundtrack and get an instant throwback to my childhood...love this film and it's music
Just found it!
Loved the movie as a kid and had Rene's song stuck in my head.I am so happy, thank you for this album!
大好きな10ccのベーシスト。80年代部屋のガラス戸に映った自分の姿を見て、この曲でシャドーダンスをしていました
Go For It, Now That We Made It, Born To Lose, Away From It All, are my favorite Animalympics tunes!
I still have the movie on vhs and now that it's on here I can watch it all the time!!! I loved it and thought and still think the soundtrack and movie are genius! Thank u so much for this. I listened to this album on the way home tonight!

Thank you so much for this! I have been searching for Animalympics for many years. When I was young I had the Lp but lost it. Cheers
I remember watching it on tv as a kid
The soundtrack randomly comes into my head during the day. I watch this during the Olympics, every 4 years, maybe too long. I love this cartoon!!
Me n my sista used to watch thus movie alot on HBO cable TV
It might be a little late, but still want to thank you so much for uploading this beautiful album. And in a perfect quality. Absolutely FAB!!!!
