  • How to winterize my boat. I winterize my 4.3 Mercruiser is this video. Run stable or a sea foam through the gas long enough so it gets in the carb. Then change the lower end gear oil in my Alpha one gen 2. You want to make sure you don’t have water in your lower end or it can burst. 3rd pull blue plugs drain water from the block and pour coolant into the hose to fill the block up with a anti freeze to prevent your motor from bursting. Then I park the boat power the lower end and pull the battery to keep it on a trickle charger over the long cold winter.

Chris, I have followed you and your advice for about 3 yrs and appreciate the job you do. You provide fast and complete info for the DIY guy. I have a 1996 sea ray with an Alpha 1 mercruiser and your videos help me maintain it as long as possible, at little expense.

Appreciate the video. Wife and I just got a boat this summer with a 4.3 and I was hoping I could do this myself so I wouldn't have to take it somewhere. You've saved me a significant amount of time and money!

I have to say. I watched your first winterize video, and then this one. It made a lot more sense the second time around. I feel like I know what I’m doing for my first time winterizing my boat this year. Thanks for making the second video Chris.

At 10:40 in ur video I’ve been using the same technique and thank you but this year I found a kayak scupper plug that fits my internal diameter of the pipe . Vs just the rag. It was like 9 bucks on Amazon and super clean to allow the RV anti freeze to get all the out to the lower leg .

    Winterising includes.
    Fuel stabiliser
    Possibly an E10 additive
    Fogging oil
    Antifreeze (Optional)
Exhaust manifold and engine block to be drained (easier if you have quick drain)
    Drain plug out
Disconnect or remove batter (most marine batteries can survive being stored outside but must be disconnected)
    Summerising the boat
You firstly change the oils or lubes.
    Replace grease
    Check impeller
    Plugs
    Timing
    Belt or belt tension
    Check your steering
    Cables throttle and shift cables
Touch up paint at the start of the season and seal with quicksilver corrosion guard.
Check anodes aren’t corroded past 50%
Check trim fluid and trim cinder seals.
    Check lower unit seals
Replace any gaskets ice water pump
WRITE WHAT YOU DO DOWN. KEEP A RECORD SO YOU CAN LOG EACH SEASON

What about spraying that fog oil into the Carburator until the motor stalls?

Good video. I noticed you didn't fog the engine. Is that necessary?

Great video watch all your videos for my boat. Got a quick question got the same engine on a 99 bay liner and sometimes my throttle sticks and it won’t allow me to go into forward gear it’ll go in reverse but not forward and it will stall out. Seems like to me something gets in a bind and idea what it could be? Thanks

After draining the plugs and reinstalling, I filled the tube with antifreeze until it came out the other side then plugged the hole but nothing came out the lower end it just stayed in the hose? Am I good?
