    Another Waterford person here...my daughter is going on her first train journey to Dublin to visit thr zoo in a couple of weeks and she asked me what the train journey was like, so a quick RUclips search brought up your great video of her exact route !

    I've just discovered your channel and have enjoyed your relaxed and informative style. In 2013, as part of the promotion of the post financial crisis 'The Gathering' tourist initiative, Irish Rail offered a 3 day unlimited travel ticket for euro 99. I hadn't travelled by train for about 20 years. So I took advantage and travelled from Heuston & Connolly stations to Dundalk, Waterford, Rosslare, Cork, Limerick & Galway. It is odd that the standard class seating is more comfortable than the first class seats you discussed.

    The franchise business operating on train catering went bust following Covid lock downs. Trolley services has been reintroduced on Cork Dublin trains in the last 2 months and should spread to all destinations by the end of the year. Hopefully that buffet bar will come back into use after more than 3 years.

    I think they should not fully fenced off the through platform, so that they had a second platform, in case there was a deley with either the Waterford to Dublin train or the Waterford to Limerick train. So then a delay with one of the trains, would not delay the other train waiting to enter the platform.

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels

    What reasons are given by Irish Rail for not reopening the buffet/cafe/bistro?

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  Год назад +1

      They are slowly bringing back a trolley service, so there may yet be catering again on the line. I just think the large overhead of the cafe is not seen as a priority. I also suspect you can sell more refreshments if the trolley passes people's seats, rather than they are made to walk through the train. Actually, thinking about it, a trolley is more accessible for people with reduced mobility, so that is also a good reason to switch to the trolley service.
