Prince plays ALL the instruments. He's such a perfectionist he drove his band and dancers to exhaustion with all the practice he insisted on. He would make them stay up all night until they got is perfect.

Exactly. And he was humble enough for him and for the rest of musicians. Only after his passing some institutions revealed that Prince made them multiple donations and only happened then because his way of thinking was "com'on, you are already a celebrity, do you need the press taking photos while you give what you have in excess?". And he always gave space and time for the members of the band to shine for themselves. People who knew him said he was eccentric but terribly funny and he was always making jokes. He was the GOAT for so many reasons.

    Shon, didn't you notice?
While recording this song, he couldn't get something right. Apollonia (the Purple Rain actress) went to his place and saw that he was upset. She asked why and he said, "I want ro do something, but i can't". She said, "Why can't you?" She was saying, you're Prince. You can do whatever you want.
So, he made this song with no bass. The song is so good that most ppl don't even notice.

As a Gen X'er, I can never say enough about Prince's music.
The impact it had was monumental.
To answer your question, no men in music, at that time, were not dressing this way.
    He developed his own creation.
Prince was a very romantic heartthrob and ladies man, contrary to rumors critics implied.
This sexy video was more intended to get the ladies swooning.
Some misunderstood him because of his feminine style.
He did a lot of full splits and flexible body contortions in very high-heeled boots on stage, especially on top of his pianos.
Later in his career, he severely injured both of his hips from doing this, giving him constant pain.
No one could take their eyes off him.
    Every second he performed.
People need to see the movie Purple Rain to fully understand his talents.
When I was 9, this album dropped and skyrocketed to fame, the movie along with it.
Prince first started his career in the late 70s.
True fans in the 80s were mesmerized and forever changed.
He never once copied Michael Jackson's high-pitched singing voice.
They both just naturally sang that way and were competitors with each other.
The 2 biggest differences between the two artists were instrumental abilities and producing.
Prince could play around 12 different instruments, dance, sing, and produce all his own albums.
I loved Michael, but he didn't really play many instruments skilfully or produce music.

Can I just say what I have said to so many people through the years? Prince gave it all to his audience. I cannot imagine the rehearsal that had to go into the Purple Rain live show. The Time and Shelia E opened, so for starters you were getting three greats of the 80s. Prince and the Revolution had the best sound of anyone I ever saw live. The way the entire groups' moves were synchronized, it was amazing. They threw out tons of purple tambourines to the crowd during the show and at the end, a huge net overhead was released and flowers rained on all of us in the audience!!!! I felt like I still owed him money after the show. It was that good.
I went to a lot of big shows back in that time period, including Madonna, The Rolling Stones, The Jacksons Victory Tour, Elton John (I have been to two of his shows and he ranks right up there with Prince for sound quality at one of them), Culture Club and many more. Objectively, I enjoyed every show I ever saw but each had their strong side. I loved all the Jackson's Motown style choreography, The Stones had this raw energy, and the audience at Culture Club was as entertaining to watch as the band itself. However, Prince was the best overall, every aspect of the show was the best.
I really have fun watching you. I have found some new music myself through your channel so tell your viewers to keep making good suggestions! They are doing great!

Man… you don’t hear MJ in there, you hear Prince. Quincy Jones made sure MJ kept up with him.
MJ was basically a Disney style product. Groomed for success.
Prince built his own legacy. His experimentation with music theory cost him a lot of chart success, but he is undoubtedly one of the single best musicians of the last 200 years. I’ll fight anyone who denies that fact.

Yesssss!!! Thank you for this. Needed my daily dose of Prince. Master at what he did. No baseline in the entire song. Come on....NO BASELINE - and still funky. HOW??? May he rest in peace.
There are stories that when he first put together The Revolution, he told each to be dressed, makeup, hair EVERY time they stepped out. Music stars, in his mind, didn't wear jeans in public, but fancy on stage. He wanted fancy ALL THE TIME. That helped give him that air of funk and professionalism. When I read his ex-wife's book, she mentioned that he never went into the studio (in his own home - Paisley Park) without full makeup, cool outfit, etc.
Please check out the entire Purple Rain movie. Explains this song.

"Even when he's takin' a bath he's got his guitar next to him"... yep that pretty much sums up how much he lived and breathed music! This was the song that started me on my Prince obsession in 1984 and been hooked ever since. Oh my goodness what a rabbit hole. He has so many sides and genres to choose from. I see you did "Purple Rain" (which you should really see the movie to get the context). And you did the all star jam with Tom Petty... which shows of his crazy guitar skills. "Kiss" is a great one to hear his straight up funk and see his dance skills. "1999" is a classic for all time. "Gett Off" is his dirtier side. "Controversy" is an early funk jam that I havent really seen people review. And "Black Sweat" is a great one from the mid 00s, totally different style. The man has soooooo much music! Great reaction video!

When I would go to 1st Avenue (a real nightclub in Mpls, seen in the movie) when Prince & the Revolution performed, I would always see him scribbling down lyrics & music between sets (in beautiful penmanship !!). He was always thinking, driven & focused; believe it or not, face-to-face off-stage he was quite shy. RIP "Skipper" (his childhood nickname) 💟💟💟

SO glad you reacted to the full album version of WDC! Prince was a one-of-a-kind talent who was deliciously unpredictable throughout his decades-long career. If you haven't already reacted to Prince's "Let's Go Crazy", that is a must; It was his other monster hit song aside from WDC (both from the Purple Rain movie). "1999" and "Little Red Corvette" were his first two big crossover hits (from Black radio to mainstream radio with a much larger and more white audiences nationally). He slayed on writing and performing his own slow jams, like "Diamonds and Pearls," and "Insatiable." I think you might enjoy reacting to his 1979 hit "I Wanna Be Your Lover." It's a groove and a vibe. Hard to sit still through that one--that's Black family cookout music!

Prince was extremely talented artist.... played something like 26 instruments. And on top of that, "Cat could ball" per Charlie Murphy. Watch the Dave Chapelle episode where Charlie Murphy talks about meeting Prince for the first time... that shit was hilarious!!!

You need to react to while my guitar gently weeps with prince and every major musician of the 70s and 80s. People forget he really was a genius especially in music. He could play multiple instruments guitar being one of his strongest examples.

Watch him dance in 1999 or Little Red Corvette. His moves were amazing.

You used the word “immaculate”, which is perfect in reference to his artistry. If you haven’t yet reacted to Little Red Corvette, please consider it.
On a different note, do you hit upright rowing with a barbell, or a dumbbell in each hand? Using dumbbells puts less stress on your wrists to avoid injury.

I can’t begin to explain what a vibe everything about Prince was back in the 80’s. No internet, so the rumors just got wilder and wilder. Some of his early stuff was so risqué it was nearly impossible to find, and multi generation scratchy bootleg cassettes were furtively traded at lockers. You should probably watch Purple Rain at some point, the movie not the music video

Back in 1981 Record Bar in our local mall would have some new artist playing every time I walked in. Many of teem I never heard again. This one I knew from the first listen was fire. To the point I can still remember listening to it that first time.

When I see some of your peers react to "When Doves Cry" I get irritated because they don't react to the full version. I feel it's not a complete reaction. Your a real one and I'm now I'm a subscriber. Keep it man!
