If it's something to do with your uniform, you are usually allowed to deficiencies that can be fixed by your change Commander like something being crooked, anything more than that, or a dirty weapon and you get sent back
I was privileged to visit Arlington in March. This devotion to duty in honoring these fallen heroes is one of the things that makes this country the greatest in the world.
I've been to Arlington 3 times and have watched this every time. What they did here is what they did the last time I went, a silent and commandless ceremony. When they came to "pass on your orders", they lipped it. That part looked silly. I have no idea why they started doing it this way.
i was there last week with Honor flight.. and one of the guards slightly stumbled on his words.. what happens? i'm sure he is beating himself up about it.. BUT one of the vets we traveled with is a former guard and when asked what happens his response was "i wouldn't want to be him tonight" so leads one to ask what "opportunity for improvement" will he recieve?
What happens if he was sent back? Is there a replacement guard ready, in case the original guard doesn’t pass inspection? Was his coat not lying flat or something?
These guys are absolute machines. It literally goes as far as if there is even single thread out of place they are sent back in to fix it. Buttons have to be shined and facing the same direction, medals have to be equal distance apart. It's truly incredible the level of detail they go to
The M14, which superseded the M1 Garand in 1957, is the standard ceremonial weapon used by the 3d U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard) today, and is the current weapon carried by Tomb Guards. They are fully functional.

think its all about discipline. Movements so drilled that they gotta be snappy and precise. Yes at first clance it looks silly, but then you realise it, in itself, is a show of how many goddamn times they did this and how long they trained to do even the most minute gesture perfectly, with every single step of the ceremony long planned in advance down to head movement.
The soldiers are literally perfect. I have such pride seeing how amazing our guys look. Yall are the best
The coveted silent changing of the guard. Love it!
Every American needs to visit Arlington once in their lifetime to see that freedom is not free. Semper Fi soldiers.
Absolutely agree !!!!
Soldati senza anima e umanità, zombi con la divisa.
Freedom is free. Choosing to handle deadly firearms for a living however, comes with a heavy price, one that will be paid at some point.
So to honor the dead we waste the precious time of living young men?
Agree
At least he still got to do his shift. Getting sent back would be embarrassing.

Always great to watch

I was there in 2005. It was silent throughout it all
I’ve seen this done many times but never silently like this.
Awesome job Army dogs. Semper Fi.
Love it all so much
This is not uncommon and I have seen it a few times, the sentinel is expected to have perfect appearance so the inspection is not just for show.

That's my short term objective Thanks
This is a different version than what I have regularly seen. No verbal commands and no pass down?

The ultimate respect. So beautiful to see in person. Honestly wish I hadn't been tourist dressed.
the guard should be so glad his boss didn’t stand front of him at the end
you should be glad morons are allowed on this site
I expect them to talk like the terminator
What was wrong with his uniform? What happens if they are sent back inside? Is a replacement ready, just in case?

They fix themselves and come back later and current guard keeps his post until then
this is the first silent change I've seen. I wonder if it has to do with the wreath.
There's a funeral going on nearby
They are incredible.
He prob got his ass chewed after that 😂
The person who helped probably got ripped apart because someone inspects them before they go out
Four people inspect him before he walks out. They’ll have to answer for it, all of them.
That must have been a long 30 minutes

Can someone please explain the gun butt flip?
He Flipped it.
The color of their M16's changed, is it?

The Army needs to go back to Army traditional uniform, and quit following other's attire.
Really? And whose attire did they "follow"?

The tomb has been continuously guarded 24/7 since 1937.
