The ceremony, known as Flags In, is performed to commemorate and honor U.S. military personnel ahead of Memorial Day weekend and has been conducted annually since 1948.

I love that in the sentinels proximity to the tomb those usual loud heel clicks were so very light and respectful.
My uncle was a guard for The Tomb of the Unknowns' Soldiers. I`m so proud of him.

I never get tired of watching these 'Tomb' videos. It makes me proud that I served in the U.S. Navy.
I am a navy vet and have seen my ship mates die. The tomb of the unknown soldiers shows a great deal of respect to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We should all respect them for what they do.

I greatly admire America for the respect you show for your flag and country. I was married to an American for several years and made sure we flew a flag outside all the time. In the UK there is not the same respect at all sadly, our 'Tomb of the Unknown ' is unguarded? Our servicemen and women fought and died as yours did but we chose not to respect them as you do? As a Veteran i find this sad and unacceptable, I have served beside Americans many times and feel safe with them watching my back. To all brothers in arms, God Bless America.

1%... that's how many Americans have ever served in the US Military.... Now consider that the percentage of those who actually engaged in direct or indirect battle is somewhere around 10% of that number. We currently have a larger relative percentage of Veterans who have served in such conditions. In peacetime we will have fewer and fewer.
Are they then the only ones who understand?
I ask this not as some rhetorical...but because I don't know that you're wrong... but I know that there are a great many who served... who did so willing to be there when and if battle was called for... I know too that there were family who worried for their sons and daughters, sisters and brothers and for their Fathers and Mothers. They all lived in a quiet yet hopeful agony... and I don't know a lot about the sacrifices they made... but I know they made them.
WE served, but not so we could LORD it over others...

the "One Talent which is death to hide"... in my mind refers to the human choice to die for a country or a cause a God or a loved one ... a comrade in arms and lodged with me useless means the willingness to do something yet never called to show it.
So I don't know if what you say is so... if only those who were among a Band of Brothers can truly appreciate it... but I know there are SO MANY who would have gladly done so.
.....and in pouring rain, blowing sleet and snow....in the dark of night....and in blazing sun......in the face of intense storms.....in all manner of circumstances.......they perform this honoured duty......in tribute to the fallen, many with no known grave in foreign lands....

A short while ago, my brother, his wife and I visited Arlington as a part of a busload of Masons from Cape Cod. We observed this ceremony and then the graves of the Kennedy's. We separated from the group to seek out the relocated gravesites of Major Audie L. Murphy and our cousin, General Richard Searcy Sweet. Dick was the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry at the beginning of the Tet Offensive on February 3rd, 1968 at Hue City as described in the book "The Lost Battalion of Tet - Breakout of the 2/12th Cavalry at Hue."" by his Adjutant, Captain Charles A. Krohn. Whenever I see this Tomb Ceremony, I think of Dick and our last visit. May they all rest in His Eternal Sunshine. SMIB

It always gets to me that the sentinels have walked in the exact same spot for god knows how many years that they’ve left an imprint of the stone.
I am not from USA but respect sacrifice they made to their country 🇺🇸💯

as a former British coldstream guardsman their is nothing i would be proud to do is to salute with the sentinels at this sacred place but i am now 72 and in poor health but i can dream

I'm old enough to remember a time when Canada still proudly looked to the Queen as their monarch, when the Beatles wore rainbow colors, when Winston Churchill was still among us, and when loyalty to Country was an honor that seemed to mean more then than it does now.

Years ago, I met a decorated American war veteran who was living in Canada. He came here because he had a lot of Canadian friends who had served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean conflict and the Viet Nam war. My friend was from Arkansas. He volunteered for the Korean conflict and Viet Nam where he was promoted to Seargent. This is a beautiful ceremony. If I ever get to go see it, I will remain at attention throughout. Hats off to the volunteers who mount a guard detail for the unknown soldiers of all conflicts! Although I wasn't born at the time, let us remember the American Volunteers who joined the Canadian military during the first and second world wars. Many never returned home. Thank you for your valuable contribution!
Anybody that posted negative comments about how this Country Honor's our Nation's Hero's are not True American's. That is a cowardly way of showing Respect . Especially those who don't have a clue how our Nation was formed . I guess their Education didn't get very far in life. If anyone has a problem with that leave our land of Freedom. Kind of crazy how a human be molded to become anything. These guardsmen underwent years of training. All those kids in the background, they too can do this , if trained. Kind of crazy to think about

I was there several years ago. I cried throughout the changing of the sentinel. Thinking of all the soldiers who fought and lost their lives for our country, the ultimate sacrifice. The observer's were very quiet. Seeing it on RUclips is nothing like being there.
Very true! I was there during a week day and early in the morning so there wasn't a lot of people there like in this video. So it was even more personal and when they saluted the Tomb that really got to me.

This makes me very proud to be a U.S. citizen. This peaceful place, with the birds singing in the background. Everything white, clean, with beautifully dressed military in attendance of this honored solder who represents all who have died serving this great nation.

How many of you who criticize noticed the respect given in front of each tomb during the placing of flags? No loud clicking of heels or at the coming together of shoes...it's called reverence and respect which this entire ceremony(not circus) is about. It's so easy to criticize when you have never walked in someone else's shoes. And the Army and Marine criticism needs to be put in check. We serve under the same flag for the same country. More then once each side has saved the others. Continue to stand tall gentlemen you are all Americas finest. HOOAAH!!!!

Yes I also noticed the respect of standing attention and non click in front of the Tomb's, I also noticed that at the hand down at the side the tips of the gloved fingers were curled inwards, wonderful video, and very emotional, the Honor Guard are special, (in my humble opinion).

This is a very sobering ceremony to watch. I have family who have served in every branch of the military; some making the ultimate sacrifice so that we can have the freedoms we so too much take for granted as Americans. every flag was placed so the flag left the staff at the exact same place. All three flags were exactly the same as they lay. You could put a full glass of water on their shoulders and they wouldn't spill a drop. Watch the shoulders when they walk, no motion, only forward.

That uniform is probably one of the most stylish ones in the modern military.
pretty touching, a lot of younger people there you'd usually think as part of the apathetic crowd standing up out of respect for the moment they're witnessing, even though they weren't verbally told to do so. It's easy to criticize a younger generation, but they're as human as older generations. Things are a bit different for them, but they're not morally bankrupt like they're unfairly made out to be.
This is an old comment, but I feel like I must say something. I am part of Gen Z, and I have had my fair share of older generations chastising me for "being lazy", "not knowing the hardships we've faced", as well as the oh so common "back in my day". When I hear these things, it makes me sad. Older generations seem to look down on my generation, as well as Millennials, seemingly because we haven't faced the kinds of things they have faced. This is true, but maybe that is because the hardships haven't come, at least, until now. I would also like to say that no, not all of the older generations are like this, and no, not all of the younger generations aren't bad, on both sides there is bad, we just have to work together to make more good than bad. Also, for any entitled older people, age does not mean wisdom, and for younger people, age does not mean innocence or lack of understanding and empathy.

Back in 2014 I was headed to the CGA in New London and made a stop in DC to see the Tomb of the Unknow. Made me really understand about the journey I was about to undertake.
If i had a passport and money to go see this i would be there in a heartbeat, standing in all weathers they do makes it touch my heart beyond belife makes me ashamed to be British well done America.

How grim it must have been to those loved ones, who waited for your arrival, little knowing that their loved ones remain is entombed, in an unknown tombed. Let there be no utterance other than to say, that the entire nation is indebted to thee. Moment of silence, with a whispering prayer, I watched the soldiers paying their homage to thee. Farewell, my brave soldier. Blessed Lord, bless, our fallen warrior with abundant love as they dwell in Your presence. Amen.
