  • Lets taking about RUclips video making gear. In this video I want to show you how I record audio from multiple sources using the Rode Wireless Go wireless mic system.
The Rode Wireless Go is an awesome system that is easy to setup, provides great sound, and comes in at a pretty affordable price for what you get. I'm not gonna go into all the technical specs, there are tons of videos for that. I mostly want to get into the details of how to use more than two for them for your video production.

This might be redundant information now but technically you don't need plug in power for the road wireless go as it outputs a mic/line level output. But I totally understand getting an adapter that just works, for anybody else doing this I would recommend the next level down Road has an adapter that doesn't do the phantom power 48v to plug-in power 2-4v conversion it's way cheaper and works with any active microphone that has a battery in it mostly.
The reason the first XLR adapter you got didn't work is the wiring followed the traditional XLR to TRS quarter inch cable wiring where as the microphone is not outputting a balanced signal, it's out putting a stereo signal with a left and a right rather than a tip ring shield, hot cold ground arrangement.
The added benefit of not needing the conversion and I'm pretty sure this adapter will work without phantom power applied, it will decrease the battery drain on the recorder with it off. I don't have those adapters so I would recommend trying it first.
However having the plug-in power adapters allows you to plug-in just about any computer microphone, something I have been looking for but didn't want to spend that much per adapter. I went with the Movo ones instead.
edit: oh yeah and I really think manufacture should start putting the circuit diagrams up for these adapters, it's really hard to tell whether it's going to come out the opposite end in the right combination needed. I was looking for ethernet separators and after purchasing 8x from eBay that were supposed to do that I ended up with splitters. The difference is 8 wires in and 8 wires out onto Jack's, or what I was looking for 8 wires in with 4 to 1 Jack and 4 to the other.
I'm over in West Virginia and did extensive research before buying two months ago, and wondering why I didn't run across your channel when I was doing extensive research.
I think you're the first person who is taking it further than a two channel system and has posted a video about it.
That is until the newly released version 2....

I've gone looking for information on phantom power and plug in power and the line gets blurred between the two so much that I try if I have the opportunity to help straighten this info out.
it's pretty cool, I can't wait to see some more reviews on it. the transmitters record internally a loop back up although I'm still questioning whether that will be a patent infringement issue In the US..... It's now a dual channel unit with two transmitters to one receiver. Supposedly it's going to be backwards compatible with the original transmitters. Better range and antennas. That kind of revision to wait on before buying and then as soon as you bought one they upgraded it kind of thing. B&H and at least one other RUclipsr have done a review so far.
Although I still think the originals have their usefulness.
Love the colored stickers, I was wondering what a good way to distinguish them would be.
I only have one set right now, hoping to get a good deal on a second one at some point.

How did you deal with the different mics not syncing up?
I mean, if you connect 2 TX to each Rhode Wireless Go RX, but the person talking to the TX paired with the RX 1, algo gets into de TX paired with the RX 2, their voice is coming duplicated. Did you experience it? Is it possible to synch the two RX?
    Thanks!

    Hi Craig
I found this while searching for something similar:
I'll film an event on _two_ cameras, one a borrowed Sony video camera and the other my Fujifilm X-T5.
I'm new to this, especially with external microphones.
Both cameras have a set of Røde Wireless Go II. Will I be able to use both sets at the same time, with one receiver on each camera, or will there be problems with the signals?
Thank you in advance for any information on this :-)

thank you for this video! i was down that road with my Xenyx x1222USb, getting nothing but slight interferences from the wireless mics. the adapters solved it.
now i wonder... as every rode wireless go II (by now as well as the wireless ME) receiver can be connected to TWO transmitters, it should work out fine to have 3 receivers (incl 3 VXLR+ adaptors each) connected to a mixer/interface, each being connected to two transmitters? i need to somehow have 6 ppl (all sitting next to each other at a table) recorded in OBS.

    Hi Craig,
Have tried this identical setup several times and have never had any luck.
They always cut out and it leaves 90% of the audio unusable. However, whenever I use 1 Wireless Go on its own it will always work absolutely fine.
I'm likely going to invest in Sennheiser mics to avoid this problem, but before I make that investment I'd love to find a way of making this setup work for me!

Craig ..... Useful information. I watched all 9:50 of it. Would have helped a bit to see the hardware setup. The cheese plate is new concept for me. Not sure how you got from the 4 receivers into the recording device. Would love to see this. I may want to follow your same "hook up". Thanks! Will talk to you in the next Zoom!

Nice job Craig. I had the same issue when I had 2 set of rode wireless Go. I did not want to use tbe 3.5mminput on my Zoom f4 so I tried 2 out of thf 4 XLR inputs and all I got was load of hiss and very low quality audio.like you after a lot of research I tried 2 Rode VXLR adapters and they work like a dream. Thank for share great job bro.

What about mic bleed? Do you get mic bleed if the 6 mic users are in the same room?

Hi Craig what mixer would you use to record 6 . I have 6 comica xd lavalier mics. Im really stuck 🤦🏾‍♂️

I'm not really an audio expert. There are lots of 6 track recorders out there, if that's what you need. What are you stuck on?

What's good I know this video is old but in the middle of the XLR ports is a 1/4" jack on all 4 of them you could have got a 1/4 headphone adapter for cheap to get it done.. I don't know if anyone mentioned that to you... I like how you mounted everything on the cheese plate fire...

You're welcome! I am being told however that the real issue is interference, I need to do some testing.

    Hell yeah Craig!
This is just the sort of thing I was looking for advice on, and unlike about 90% of the tech review videos I could've watched the background info without the artifice people often exude with that.
If anything all I could constructively comment is that you could put more confident a call to action, and taking a bit more time but splicing together when you need to take a bit of a pause in post, as this really is some good honest info.
I am finding those Rhode Gos pulling up scarce these days as well as the zoom goin' upabout 80% so you were really on it!

Aren’t you able to turn off phantom power completely on your Zoom? Or does it need the power just in a smaller voltage? Or does it not need the phantom power at all? Because if that’s the case there’s an option to turn off phantom power on the zoom. At least on the zoom h4n it is. Not sure about your model the zoom h6.

    • @nextlevelcraig
      @nextlevelcraig  3 года назад

I was wrong, the Wireless Go doesn't need any additional power. But yes I can turn off Phantom Power .

Maybe I explained it wrong, but for that day I didn't get it working. That's what sent me on my research journey to find a solution.

Thanks you! Be careful though, from what I understand there can be interference issues if the receivers are too close together, but I have not tested this.

I remember buying my first sennheisers back in the day and it cost me about $900 for which is one pack in receiver. But now today I can have a four mic set up for under $400 that is just insane
