Starmer is either an idiot or a horrible liar (though most likely he is both). The NHS isn't, and was never, free to use. We pay for the NHS with our taxes in much the same way we pay car tax so we can use the roads.
In fact I used the NHS for the first time in around 12 years recently and ignoring all the rest of the hassle for a simple blood test I then had to pay £20 to collect a few boxes of pills from the pharmacy. A fee which is clearly stated to not go to the pharmacy but to the government, in otherwords yet another tax, for using the NHS.

The NHS was founded on the belief that the poor should get healthcare, and so should every British citizen. That's why national insurance contributions were compulsory. Every tax and NI working person paid. A very noble and altruistic initiative. It however was never meant , nor designed to be a free healthcare system for the world and his uncle. Has anyone in parliament actually asked about the cost to the NHS to treat conditions that migrants are bringing in from all over the world? TH is a classic example. Eradicated in this country many years ago, but now having a big resurgence. It's an airborne lung disease. Spitting on the streets and bus stops are now all to common in London but if you politely ask people not to do it, you get abuse. I know, I live h 🤷😭😭😭😭😭
