Another great instalment Jamie. The suspense is building even more.I’ve found that adapting to change whilst hunting is a key skill a hunter should have.Compared to some of the young ladies I courted in my “foot loose and fancy free days”, I would suggest that your foundation was a bit lite on but was relatively blended in well!
Just awesome, getting to the pointy end of the trip now that you have had eyes on the brown ghosts of the high country, looking forward to the rest, thanks for all the effort Jamie. Cheers
haha well then imagine how i felt on the end of day 4 only having seen one hind and spooked several deer for the whole trip. it was KILLING ME too! Infact Andre too was in same boat. We worked ffffing hard for our animals that is for sure...
Good stuff Jamie, hunting is all about making decisions and then changing them at any moment. Gotta love those close encounters. Looking forward to tomorrow....
Hahaha had to have a laugh at the women putting on make up reference, good vid mate, thanks for the effort bringing us along on the adventure, look forward to seeing the rest of it.👍
Uprooting your location midway can put many off but with your attitude I am sure it just adds to the challenge. The new location shows plenty of potential and I too was expecting something to bust out at any moment. The footage of the Hind checking you out was tops. I think your makeup skills could do with a little caressing but hey if it go's with the tights you go girl. Looking forward to what's ahead. Now hurry up...........
haha cheers Regan; yes hunting is an evolving journey and as much as (some) people may just want to get straight to the point with showing the best bits, to me its important to show the ups and downs and the deeper story that slowly unravels each day... cheers for watching mate , much appreciated
Cheers Rogee, yeah the dogwood is real dry; the understory and leaf/bark litter from the gum and eucalyptus trees makes for a "corn flake" hunting experience!!
Have you ever hunted further south Jamie on the southern side of the mt hotham area very different country and a lot of deer samba and fallow I was up there last weekend on business and was told that there is a car written about 1 a week that hit deer
It’s always a hard decision to go and move from your plan A, but sometimes for the best mate. Looks like a good spot so hope it plays dividends. I’m with Steve bring on the rest.
Good stuff my experience with hunting fallow and samba is that I have found that cockabas often go off when people or deer are walking in view of them good luck
yeah ok that's interesting, i must admit i rarely hear them go off like that! Maybe that fresh sign was the animals moving underneath them while they were all laughing at me heading the wrong way!!?!
Nice episode Jamie !! Was the hind at 14 metres filmed with the AX53 ?? You mentioned setting it to manual focus ... are you referring to assigning the front adjustable ring to 'manual focus' ?? Just another idea with the AX53 you may or may not have found in the menu system, is turning 'focus peaking' on. I know when looking at the LCD screen and trying to find exact focus manually is difficult sometimes. The focus peaking will turn the part of the scene that is in focus a red colour. Cheers, Matt
Hi Matt, great tip i will certainly look into that manual setting for showing area of focus in red. Yes i was using the manual focus mode of the Sony FDR AX-53 where i had control over the focus wheel at the front; that bracken in the foreground simply wouldn't allow it to auto focus on the hind with out the manual mode. For a relatively entry level handy camera it's great to use. Thanks again Matt
Killa mate 👏🏻🤙🏻 shit that dogwood looks thick ay. I remember coming back to camp one night after Ryan got he’s stag and we had a gully full of the shit to get through, it was so slow going bashing through the shit, Ryan had he’s antlers on he’s back and he kept getting caught up in it haha, Good times man!!
The dogwood thickets are like a magnet to them aye! Clever buggers, that sambar bed i show just before coming onto the hind was a perfect example... I'd bed down in the dry dogwood too if i was them, so hard to sneak in undetected. As it turns out, i actually have footage of the stalk into that spot where the hind checked me out, and i did infact make some noise that is definitely audible on the camera and i suspect that is what the hind was coming in to check out. I also have audio of the deer doing very low moans and mews to each other while in the dogwood which i ca hear in the 4mins of footage that i have leading up to the hind spooking. Very intsresting. I would love to get in close and film them undisturbed at some stage in my hunting career.
MountainMan HuntingFilms like you said mate, think like a deer and you’ll find deer! Yea that would be interesting to watch, they are such majestic and mysterious creatures aren’t they.
Was in the Wonnangatta a few years ago when gates were closed waiting for day break the birds started there laugher so crossed over river past we’re they were and two small stags were sparing not far from them the video was the high light of that trip
