  • We spent 4 days backpacking in the Victorian high country hunting Sambar.
    We seen 12 deer including a couple of cracking stags which gave us the slip. We also took a small stag for meat that walked up behind us.
    We found some cracking wallows and some awesome glassing country.
    We had some big days walking the hills and also came across a couple of snakes.
    I also did a couple of reviews on the jetboil stash and backcountry meals.
    Filmed using a Nikon p900 and Sony cyber shot.
    Hope use enjoy!!

    Great video and depiction of the hunt. Those frosty mornings are amazing, a few deer seen closing the gap and taking stag. An awesome few days well captured thanks for putting together!

    For every 20 small stags you let walk you will be rewarded with a giant.

    Hey dude you really are making some killer videos. Hey what month do they start loosing their antlers?

      Cheers mate, I’d say end of October to start of December would be the most likely but sambar can all be different. I’ve seen cast stags in early September and soft velvet in July and hard antler in January. They can all vary a bit

    I have never hunted Victoria and trying to do some research. I am going to try Dartmouth in a couple of weeks from the boat but it seems very thick bush around there. Could you offer some advice where to find some more open country like that to glass. Is it certain regions only or does it open up everywhere above a certain altitude etc.

      Hey mate, unfortunately I’ve never hunted Dartmouth, it’s on the list to do hopefully next year.
      You can find open areas in a lot of places but this sort of stuff is higher altitude

    Looks like fun! I thought you would be letting the rat heads live another day to get bigger?

      @intothehighcountry  2 года назад +2

      Yeah I normally would. If I had my time again I certainly would of let this one walk but was quick decision seeing he was standing 10m behind me and they look a lot bigger when they are standing over the top of you🤣
