Brenda is like all our ma's, aunties and big Irish sisters. They take no nonsense and they'll have your back if you deserve it. Honest as the day is long. Really enjoyed listening to her.
For someone nervous and surprised making her oscar acceptance speech, she gave one of the most humble, gracious and best acceptance speeches at the oscars.
In the early 90's i was working at a hairdressers in Manchester , i had the pleasure of spending a few hours with this lady & her rescue dog , whom she had called Selotape , as he needed so much putting back together ! I was a young lady , and i have never forgot that day, washing her hair & chatting with Brenda. She was such fun , she lit up my day :) That dog adored her , what a special memory :)
I cannot heartily enough convey my gratitude for the upload of this, and many others, Tommy & Moderators. I had to thank you specifically for this one however. Blessed be the light you shine for others peering out of the dark.
I would love to read Brenda’s poetry. To me, she is genuine, earthy, real, and authentic - so many equal superlatives. I’m looking forward to the day when I’m on my own in my little cottage.
I've also had depression with me most of my life and there is truly something about sharing a story that makes you float instead of sink. Wonderful interview
Wow! What a rollercoaster? To be so comfortable in your own sadness and to see the sparkle of her stories making her happy again, beautiful interview could watch hours of this! I’m actually jealous of Brenda being able to be so honest in her sadness. Right now I’m having a terrible time with my mental health and everything. I’m just so lost in my sadness that I can’t function properly yet everyone is just carrying on as though there’s nothing wrong. I told my husband last night I don’t like anyone or anything just now, that I don’t want to be here anymore. He cracked a “joke” and then left the room! I honestly think sadness, proper lonely sadness is out upon you and not coming from something missing in you. I just wish I had someone to tell that would actually do something to help me. It is what it is 😢
The Irish way of saying that sadness is upon you, not I am sad, seems to resonate in a better way. It implies that something or someone has brought sadness into your life, not that you're a sad person, implying its not a permanent state, and there is a resolve available. Sometimes it's a bit harder to find and implement it however. All the power to you at this time, and for the future.
I'm sorry, that must have been awful, but good on you for complaining! I see it as a horribly numb, disconnected state. I hope Brenda's stories helped you remember how you were, and how you will be again, in time, when you start to get your feeling back. Take care. 💚
It looks to me that you are well able to be honest about your sadness….you just have been here. And also, you are able to tell someone else, as you have done here to me and every reader. I wish you strength and hope, and that you will find belief in yourself and your ability to truly heal, with support from others. I believe you can ❤❤❤
"sadness is almost necessary to have as an emotion, because how else do you empathise...' I thought that was profound and says alot about Brenda's love of people. 😍
Holy shyt this was heavy. As a sort of a recluse myself and also periods of my life battling depression with antidepressants, I love staying at home, and only go outside to get smth from the store and to train BJJ. But I can't say it's the best situation if you want to find love and have children. These states of emotions are total opposites, and ngl - being in my middle 30s, there can be scary days filled with 'how I'm going to carry myself through life if I don't have a partner and children' thoughts. Life is fkd up. 😂
Aye they're right. Just think of yourself as Al Pacino. Put a brave face on and, with a bit of compassion, and even if its not the best outcome, there's always a next time.
I saw Brenda Fricker in a play at The Gate. She was sensational. 1998? I studied with Uta Hagen for years in the 90's and had talked about the hardest thing to do as an actor was to exit the stage in a manner that people didnt know if you are leaving the stage (or something like that.) she said it is so rare she had only seen it a few times. I saw Brenda Fricker do it . When I saw this video pop up I saw it as it was yesterday
Brenda Fricker...have you ever heard of Fernando Pessoa? His play would be brilliant for you...The Mariner...I am from Dublin, living in Canada, just visited Portugal earlier in the year, found out about Pessoa...brilliant writer! Much luv, know the "Liberties" well
Anjelica Houston, Julia Roberts, Lena Olin, and Diane Weist were nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress in 1990. Brenda Fricker won the Oscar that year...and well deserved.
For some people, they do indeed. SSRIs for example, many side effects, physical and mental. I hope that she's trial-and-errored a few and so has found one that fits.
Why is he treating her really weirdly? Like she's an alien or something? I don't like it. She is a really great actress though! I also suffer from depression so it means a lot she would be so open about it. Mike Myers also makes me laugh too! I like that she still thinks and speaks fondly of him. 🙂☀️
This is ridiculous, she’s some actor, please don’t look forward Irish people when Charley had a left foot Lives in a cottage in the liberties,I think I’m going back to god at this stage
Unashamedly honest. A wonderful soul. ❤
OMG, thank you Brenda!
Marvellous lady her honesty is just amazing .
Brenda is like all our ma's, aunties and big Irish sisters. They take no nonsense and they'll have your back if you deserve it. Honest as the day is long. Really enjoyed listening to her.
Everyone needs a bit more Brenda Fricker in their life.

Brenda brought me to tears, with her words of Oscar Wilde.

The best advice I ever had was from Dr.Anthony Clare ,the only way to beat anxiety is to face it.
Aye, if possible, approach, not avoid.
Yes but that takes courage and if you have courage then you have not got

What an interesting woman. I could listen to her all night
What an interesting woman. The Field is one of if not my most favourite films and play. I played the role of the wife a bull too for 38 years.
Melancholy is part of being Irish ☘️
Brilliant.
That was fantastic
Brenda Fricker should be celebrated as a fantastic artist. I think she might enjoy that (not all the time, but often).
When my dad was asked whats your son going to be when we were growing up.. hrd look at me and say "an artist...
A fe kin pis s artist"
So I married an axe murderer . brilliant funny movie!
What a Star ✨✨✨
Tommy telling us his own story here!
Great woman
I am sorry she's on antidepressants. I enjoy her films.
I love you Brenda!! Fan from The States! It’s Your Astrological Pisces that’s got you!
That wilde quote nearly got me
From oscar winner to back living in the libertys. This is a woman i see as a real irish woman.
That Mike Myers story was good
So I married an axe murderer
I like Charlie Mackenzie and Harriet
Ithankyoukindly, both.
Wonder if she still has the turtle dove that Kevin gave her!😄😄😄
Unreal
Does anyone know the title of that Oscar Wilde poem?
She's hilarious 😂 😃 😄 😁
I wonder does the anti depression medication cause issues themselves?
They do. It started out with her explaining the cotton mouth scenario. There'd be plenty more, I'm sure.
For some people, they do indeed. SSRIs for example, many side effects, physical and mental. I hope that she's trial-and-errored a few and so has found one that fits.
Nah i just take viagra to compensate for it ❤❤
@garethm3242 very sad, it does seem some have side affects, that worsen the original issue.
@@TadhghR very sad.
Isnt this the pigeon lady from home alone 2
It is. It’s sad to think she is lonely like that irl like the character was in the movie.
She was the pigeon lady in home alone 2 at the ending of the movie

Is this the Brenda Fricker from the Australian series "Brides of Christ"??
Talking to the dog, sounds like me. I miss Irish culture.
A fantastic woman.
So I married an axe murderer was a very funny film.
She from the field movie I think
When will Piers Morgan invite her on his show?
I like Charlie Mackenzie and Harriet
Why can't they hug
Incredible mind. Tortured thinker
Brenda sings my song, apart from her amazing talents and fame.
So I married an axe murderer
She looks different
