This is far beyond an interview. This is a masterpiece of conversation. I have never seen anything like it. Tommy Tiernan has created a new genre, all previous and subsequent interviews are now irrelevant. Bravo Tommy Tiernan.

Jesus, I hadn't seen this one before, incredible absorbing meeting , could only be achieved by two Irish men, the sheer understanding of each other, hearts and minds.

The fact that Stephen was comfortable enough to openly talk about his wife and family was very moving. Tommy Tiernan really has the best chat show in the world, bar none.

I too loved listening to the conversation. Not surprised by Stephen Rea's relaxed conversational manner. I think he is a great actor BECAUSE he is able to be "open and unguarded". He puts himself, his true self, into his characters. That's why his characters are so beloved. Nothing more attractive than authenticity.
And, um, note that he said he loves hanging out with women. Not trying to start a new battle of the sexes here, but sometimes in conversation with women, men will participate in subjects that are unlikely to arise in men only conversations. I reckon that Mr Rea has honed his conversational skills during hours of chat with mostly women. And why not! I don't even know why I thought it important to tap out the previous sentence. Stephen Rea is a brilliant guy. So is Tommy Tiernan. Nuff said.

Even before they mention Beckett l was thinking the set should have had a tree, a rock, and a moon.
The lrish do Beckett best because no matter what language he wrote in the mood he wrote in was lrish.
Of course Tommy could do it.
Stephen seems to have found some sort of peace which he deserves for the joy he brings to others.

Feltrim Hill, not too far from me in Swords, the fucking council demolished an ancient tomb there and an old windmill built by Dutch workers in the 1600's, Beckett used to wander up there years ago for a bit of peace and a stroll, it was a favourite spot of his, and some painter, both at different times, forget his name.

I love the space in these chats. The pregnant pauses that go on and on. Agree that an audience would ruin the intimacy. Can't see the level of opening up that happened here happening with an audience. ( Over seen many of them with an audience, and they work, but sometimes you don't gain, and you do loose, by having a load of people there waiting to be entertained.
