My dear gone mum and dad would have us be all particular at the table, and have us call virtual strangers aunty or uncle, and remind us of the sin of profanity and unkindness but they'd throw Jesus in a the river when it came to the craic. It was impossible to get to sleep, having been sent to bed, because of the sheer laughter at the sort of stories Tommy's telling. Just life, as it happens, but jeezus you're gasping and begging for it to stop. This man's energy in telling a tale is the true meaning of being Irish. So shit's gone to the wall and you've nothing left, and no hope of retrieving it and yet, given the chance, you'll do your best to make it funny. That's the craic. 'How's ya Mam?' 'She died'.
