Gay Byrne was an incredible interviewer. He rarely if ever treated any of his guest politicians like you see broadcast interviewers nowadays, where the order of the day is to take a combative stance and go for the jugular from the get go. Indeed such a stance makes for good TV, with journalists getting plaudits for 'putting it up to politicans' and asking the difficult questions. However, rarely does such an approach yield any new information and allows the interviewee to escape unscathed and victorious,, other than with a few bruises at best. Byrne was a different animal entirely. He was smart and knew that there was much more to be gained from 'dancing' with his guests as opposed to the usual wrestling match we see week in week out. Doubt we will ever see his like again.

I was in the audience that night.
Gay Byrne - the consummate broadcaster that he was knew he had “hooked” Flynn.
Like a good fisherman who has hooked a salmon - he then had to land it.
    Byrne did that with Flynn.
At the ad break the floorman indicated to Byrne that they were six minutes over the allotted time for Flynn.
Byrne said: “Don’t worry, I’ll get that time back.”
Byrne was the producer of the show. He had control.
I was to be involved in an item on the show. It was scrapped but done the following week.
Gay Byrne was an absolute brilliant broadcaster.
That night was one of his great nights.

When politicians are out & about looking for votes, this is their number 1 tactic. Lull the public into a false sense of security. "All will be alright, if you vote for me."
The same "lull" is currently in progress right now, in relation to the "cov"id to vaccine" scenario.

Everyone has here seen the physical culmination of corruption brought to account. Gemma O'Doherty is nearly the only one now in Ireland trying to highlight the levels of corruption taking place which now far exceeds some payments for rezoning.
Barry O'Halloran who presses Flynn is widely seen as a hero, yet Gemma O'Doherty is portrayed as a crank, an undesirable, for challenging corruption.

I think this might have been another 'key turning point' in politics - the moment when politicians realized the importance of large-scale PR management more in line with what you would see from a big corporation. After all, most of this corruption from back in the day hasn't ceased in any way, it's simply moved into the backrooms of large corporate buildings so it would make sense that politicians have to start advertising and promoting themselves with an image that's more 'corporate friendly'.

The Edelweiss Pirate in which case, he’s been living in the old people’s flats behind my house for years. Or he was before he died. Nigel was often round there in his personalised Range Rover.

this story reminds me of the house I lived in in swords back in the early 2000's. At one time I remarked to the estate agent that a house with certain blatant faults would never be allowed to be built in my home country. The man just replied that te contractor was at that moment being investigated for massive bribery. Goes to show...

This was very interesting video. Especially looking at it from a perspective of someone living in Ireland for nearly half of his life but find it very hard to get into Irish politics.

So you're another Flynn following the money. You seem to be from foreign parts but what the hell money is still 💰 no matter what language it speaks.

Byrne's interview was a masterclass. He buttered up Flynn's ego until Flynn's already big ego was bursting, then lured him into saying the wrong thing. If he had attacked him, Flynn would have closed up. Instead he lured him into feeling it was going brilliantly and he could say anything. He then sat back and let Flynn talk himself into a car crash.

Good people cannot expose the new and old, corrupt movers and shakers that move and do dodgy business deals like the snakes politicians; for fear the Gardai (Police) will burst into your house on the demands of the usual lying state representatives issuing an illegal order to deal out their version of justice. The good and honest citizens that died in history, cannot speak any more about the dishonesty, corruption and lies that are all the fashion.
