  • This was a project that took me 2 years to get to, and it ended up being a very different project from the original idea of a wood carving! The idea came to me when a random conversation made me think of glass exit signs that are lit from the top.
So why not create my own edge-lit LED frame to see if I could get a similar effect on a glass etching?
    Main Supplies:
    Armour Etch Etching Cream -www.amazon.com...
    14x14 Tempered Glass - www.storesuppl...
Wood Float Frame by Darice 14"x14" picture size - bought at wayfair.com
Govee Alexa LED Light Strip - www.amazon.com...
    Tools:
Silhouette Cameo 4, phillips screwdriver, Dremel tool (w/drum sander sleeves and mandrels), digital caliper, medium grit sandpaper, tape, paintbrush

Next time try cutting your template as a mirror image and etch the design backwards on the back side of the glass. LED edge lighting looks a little better that way.

      Sandblasting.
I don't know of an acid that would work properly on plexiglass/stencil.

Once you have etched the mirror, does an LED light pass through it when it is put at the back?

I used a hard plastic spatula-type thing to ensure good adhesion on the edges before applying the armour etch cream.
