- Eyes can be challenging, BUT also really enhance and bring your woodcarving to life! One of the first thing someone will look at when seeing your carving is the eyes. In this tutorial I go over how to carve an open eye.

I am a pro woodworker for over 40 yrs and have carved some corbels, legs, and other architectural items. I am nearing retirement and want to move out of my comfort zone and do some faces, etc. I recently found your channel and the first thing I noticed was the respect you have for that razor sharp blade. The fact that you are a pro and are using a cut-resistant glove tells me your smart enough to know that one slip can impact the rest of your career in a really bad way. That made me a subscriber. Thank you for the content- looking forward to this!
A very big help. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for making this video. Your close-up views are particularly helpful for new carvers like me.

Yes, soon
Excellent, thank you for sharing Van. Great Tutorial.
Thanks, Van! Great video. I am appreciative of the various techniques all you teachers use to accomplish the same carving challenges. Since we all have different abilities and can sometimes see things differently, it helps to explore the different techniques to see what works best. Much appreciated.
Thanks a lot for Your great tutorials and many regards from Germany
Thanks for the post!
Thank you so much for your videos. I've only just started carving & (thanks to you) carved my first, half decent, eye tonight. If I had one tenth of your ability I would be a happy soul. Thank you once again.
Excelent, thanks.
AWESOME Thank you for sharing.
I’m a new carver, the videos are very helpful
Thank you!
What size v carving tool did you used on that? Thank you it’s very helpful !!👍
Hello Kelly. Thank-you for your videos. Could you tell me which wood do you use for carving and where may I buy it? Thank you so much.
❤
I had learned to begin carving the top lid from the top of the center down to each corner in order to avoid going against the grain and causing split outs on the eyelid. The other thing I learned is to go deeper on the inside and outside corners of the eye to create a deeper eye shape. I am surprised that when you go from corner to corner that you don't get problems going against the grain. But hey - whatever works the best for you. I enjoy your videos nonetheless. :-)
Hey, that's pretty neat. Thanks for sharing. I watch this on my phone, and some of your views make it difficult for me to see the detail of what you're doing. Other than that, great informational video.
Know "eye" have a weakness and "eye'll" practice this many times over
Thanks for the teaching Sir 🙏
QUESTION. What size v tools

Can you finish the videos with a 3 second close up so I can freeze it and study the pic, thanks.
How can we do eyes with just a knife or is it possible?
Yes it is! Great idea for a video!
