  • Expressions can change how a woodcarving looks. One of the first thing people will see is the face and take notice of it, so making it stand out with different expressions are a great way to improve your carvings! In this tutorial I go over a inquisitive look. More expressions to come soon!

You have been the easiest carver to follow, I've been trying to learn the art of face carving and I have found you to be the best teacher for that. Thanks for your help. Looking forward to my next lesson. Thank You Again Frank Ricciardi

Great video Van. I get much inspiration & knowledge from your way of teaching & explaining the techniques & tips for carving. I am a new carver and enjoy it very much & wish I had started carving earlier in life. Thanks.

Excellent example, love your videos. If you have any tricks to making hats I'd sure be interested in seeing them, chefs hat, fisherman hat, fedora, ball cap, sailors hat, police & fireman hat, hard hat etc. or how to keep the brim from breaking.

Merci pour vos belles vidéos. J'apprends tous les jours et c'est grâce à vous. Une question svp. Doit-on toujours utiliser un angle pour démarrer un visage? Est-il possible de démarrer sur une face plate. Merci pour votre retour
    Thanks

    Thanks Van! Very informative!
I'm looking forward to seeing more of the expressions you mentioned.
I'd also like to hear about the process of designing an expression. What combinations need to be done together (raising the eyebrow in conjunction with moving the smile line cuts, etc.) to get an expression to look right? What alterations are made to get a frowning, surprised, scared, etc. expression?

Great work! One question i have is which type of brush is that and where can i get one?

    • @vankellywoodcarvings

It is a Denture Cleaning Brush. Most pharmacies will have them, and you can also find them on amazon.

Need to zoom camera in, showing way to much table top. Not enough detail of what your doing.

Thanks for the feedback. Not always possible to get super close and clear while carving, but we definitely get lots of close up shots to show what is happening.

Zoom in, yes but only just a bit more, still need to see placement of fingers like when pivoting.
