What I've learned from you Van is a process or method that is repeatable. Once you get the process down, you can start adding variations. The basic cuts ensure that all the facial planes are there and work together. Brilliant!

I've only been carving for 4 months & your videos have helped me so much. I fully understand the effort it takes to produce RUclips videos & I thank you for taking the time to do so.

I just want to say a huge thank you to you for making these videos. I've only just started carving after also taking up woodturning this past summer. Your videos are easily the best i've seen online; clear, informative and inspirational! Your accent is so calming too. Greetings from Scotland and Merry Christmas.

You’d be intense too, if you had some guy scraping your face with a knife!! Love the dialogue along with the instruction. Thanks for another fine video.

Can anyone help me, What degree v-tool should I buy to carve eyes?
Just got a 60 degree v-tool delivered, but that looks more like a small u-gouge. Thanks!

At time 1:43, you "take a U gouge" to help set the eye area. However you do not indicate the size. Is it a 7, 9 or 11? How wide? I realize it might depend on the size of the wood and the face so, perhaps you can share the size in terms of the eye to be made. That is, is it wide enough to set the size of the lower part of the eye?

Unfortunately, there were certain important aspects of eye placement not mentioned in this video. Generally speaking, there is about one nose width between the eyes. The inside corner of the eye should come to the outside edge of the nose. Eye width is generally one nose width. Of course, with a caricature these guidelines can be adjusted.
